June 23, 200917 yr Getting sick and tired of people getting 99s just for the cape, grinding away at skills they hate for bragging rights in a video game. That isn't even the worst of it though. It's even worse when people say get a 99 and instead of saying "I got 99 Hunter," they say "I got Hunter Cape."
June 24, 200917 yr You're bragging about your Fire Cape in your sig. What's the difference? Oh because you know, the Fire Cape is vastly superior to all other capes. Seriously, if people want to get a 99 for the Cape, then let them. The Cape was my main motivation for 99 Attack because I liked how it looked. Sue me. Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198

Seriously, if people want to get a 99 for the Cape, then let them. The Cape was my main motivation for 99 Attack because I liked how it looked. Sue me. There's really nothing else at 99. Sure, rune plates, steel titans, and demonic thrones, but there are 21 other skills. Plus, skillcapes are the second best cape, the best prayer cape, and the cheapest good cape. They look great and they come with pretty much everything else the skill has to offer. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
June 24, 200917 yr To be completely honest, in the current state of the economy, about 60% of skills have no use without the cape. Fishing (horrible XP, horrible money, horrible in general) Smithing (Horrible money) Fletching (semi decent money, but hardly any better than hunting) Herblore (Self Explanatory) Firemaking (self explanatory) Cooking " " And... the list goes on. At least it gives those crappy skills a semblance of usefulness. O.O
June 24, 200917 yr Think of it as motivation. For me, if it wasn't for the cape I would have given up my 99 defence goal of the past 3 years.....even though I only just got 95 this week. Popoto.~<3
June 24, 200917 yr Think of it as motivation. This. Personally, I'm sick of people telling people not to get 99's for the cape. Why not? Runescape IS a largely grind based game. That isn't even the worst of it though. It's even worse when people say get a 99 and instead of saying "I got 99 Hunter," they say "I got Hunter Cape." What's the difference? June 24, 200917 yr And most of all WHAT ELSE ARE YOU GETTING A 99 FOR!!! The money? With most skills it sucks. The prestige (aka the cape) The... Quest requirement... Yea, really not much reason to get a 99. O.O
June 24, 200917 yr I'm still waiting for that valid argument and/or rebuttal. Hopefully not waiting in vain. O.O

June 24, 200917 yr You guys are expert trolls, 10/10 all around. Lol, can you quote one of them? Just disagreeing with you =/= trolling. Flaming, yes. Name calling, yes. Eatrunearrow posting, yes. I don't see any of that though.
June 24, 200917 yr It is just another way for people to express their skills and achievements in the game, if they want to get the cape because it makes the game fun or gives them some satisfaction you aren't the one to decide if it is right or wrong. Does it make such a large impact on your gameplay experience that someone chooses, say, to get 99 Fletching for the cape as opposed to the level? It is a neglible difference, and can be easily ignored.
June 24, 200917 yr If getting a cape is fun for these people, I have no problem with that, if they whine that I don't have a lot of respect for them... then I'm sorry but this isn't my style. Owning a dragon chain used to be impressive... why is it not impressive anymore and not worthy of the average player's respect? There are so many available and the value is not what it used to be. Why is cooking, str, fletching... not so respected anymore? Because the average player will have one of these maxed out compared to 3-4 years ago when having a 99 actually meant more in comparison. June 25, 200917 yr Well, eventually you need 99's in every skill to complete the game... Why play a game if you aren't intending to try and complete it?
June 25, 200917 yr Think of it as motivation. This. Personally, I'm sick of people telling people not to get 99's for the cape. Why not? Runescape IS a largely grind based game. No Kent, it's not considered a grinding game. RuneScape itself yes it is a grinding game but the meaning of 'grinding' in RuneScape is different to others. So RuneScape-ly speaking it isnt a grinding game. You just grind and then complain how it's a grinding game :| I dont need a siggy no moar.
June 25, 200917 yr The only time you should care is when they start bragging on and on to you, but besides that, let them do what they want.
June 25, 200917 yr Actually, I basically choose my capes on fun-factor and æsthetics. I happen to enjoy skills that keep me in a crowded area for long periods of time because I get to make lots of friends. Did I grind for weeks in these skills just for a cape? Essentially yes, but I had fun doing so and made a few additions to my smiley face list. What's wrong with that? I love to meet people; send me a pm if you see me on RuneScape! :)

So RuneScape-ly speaking it isnt a grinding game. You just grind and then complain how it's a grinding game :| Er... what? A grinding game is a game that you have to repeat the same actions over and over to reach a goal. To achieve anything in a reasonable amount of time, it is a grind game. Can it not be? Sure. But to mostly everybody, it is. I'm speaking for myself and the masses when I talk. Anyways, when did I complain about Runescape being a grinding game? June 25, 200917 yr Its a grinding game. Even the minigames become a grind after a few hours. Even PVP becomes a grind after a few hours. You just get bored eventually. O.O
June 26, 200917 yr You just get bored eventually. this is a matter of opinion, an opinionthat tends to emerge from people who claim to be semi-retired. Here's my opinion on semi-retired players : they failed at the game and now complains to everyone still playing that the game is broken and was better a couple years ago. What they don't realize is that they also failed to quit properly. June 26, 200917 yr it doesnt hurt you, so why do you care? people are allowed to train a skill for whatever reason they want, so quit complaining I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come
June 26, 200917 yr Author it doesnt hurt you, so why do you care? people are allowed to train a skill for whatever reason they want, so quit complaining It's a rants forum, I can rant about whatever I want that is Runescape related. It doesn't hurt you, so why do you care? People are allowed to rant about whatever they want related to runescape here for whatever reason they want, so quit whining.

What they don't realize is that they also failed to quit properly. I never complained the game was broken, and i have quit. I haven't been on runescape for the past 3 months, the only reason i have "semi" retired on my tag is because i still hang around on the forums, so i still consider myself semi playing. I stated that you "just get bored eventually" And you do, everyone does, its just WHEN people get bored, not if. O.O

What they don't realize is that they also failed to quit properly. Hi, I'm more or less semi-retired. I don't think the game's any worse now than then, I didn't fail as much as got bored, and I never claimed to have quit to begin with for fear of coming back and being a hypocrite. :D All it means is that I don't find the grind-based gameplay and rush to get 99s fun. I'll leave that for people who do. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
