If you download it from the official source, then yes, it's fairly damn safe :)

I used to use it back in my Windows days, and I found it to be a very good tool to use.

Your slow down question is totally dependant on what spec machine you are running. But I have had it working fine and in HD with only 512MB RAM and an old graphics card.

But, if you are still unsure of its safety, then you might be interested in the web based alternatives out there. tip.it offer a plug-in for Firefox, and Zybez are have something called Tiko, which is pretty much the same as Swiftkit, however it is run within the web browser itself.

I use swiftkit and i can pretty much assure you that it is safe :) I used its I think called beta which was SwiftSwitch ever since like 2006 or so and I have never been stolen of my password and it doesnt slow me down or anything :) It actually is very efficient :)

I think Jmods made a post on rsof about it being illegal to use. I don't remember too much though. :S

I personally like Tiko better, mainly because it's compatible with Firefox, and therefore better if you browse the web with your RS add-on.

Yeah I heard that too...

Anyway, no matter what anyone tells you or where you download it, SCAN IT FIRST. You should scan everything without exception that you download. However, the official swiftkit download -should- be safe. Scan it anyway.

im pretty sure that TIF had a policy of not discussing SK as it may not be safe and IS a thirdparty aplication, but seeing as everyone else has been helping, i may aswell too

ive used sk since it came out, and SS for a while before that and NEVER had any problems with hacking/viruses etc. i downloaded from their official site. if you do use it, ONLY get if from their proper website, dont use limewire, torrents etc because they are prone to viruses. they release patches to fix problems like crashing when doing certain things, so its not exactly safe in that sence, ive died once because it crashed as i took a screenshot at GWD lol. so use with caution, if you use it.

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

If I recall it was to do with the old SwiftSwitch program, because that allowed people to force them self onto a world, and thus world-hop with ease. The switcher was what Jagex didn't like.

(For some reason I also remember an old version that had an auto-talker and macro clicker... EDIT: Never mind, that was instead in a program called Elite Switch, looked exactly the same; Make sure you stay away from this one!)

But then they changed it to SwiftKit, and this was accepted by Jagex because it didn't breach any rules and followed their guidelines.

Swift Kit

Tiko

Tip.it Firefox Plugin

I have used them all and assure their safety, just get them from the proper website. I personally use Swift Switch these days however, only because it's the only client I got working under Wine in Linux. :x

Just don't forget to SCAN :)

Nope, it takes passwords and gives trojans.

What's the point in posting in help and advice if you just make up the advice with no thought or research?

Its almost guarenteed to be safe, you can scan the download if you want for extra safety, but i will bet a few mill there won't be anything there.
