It seems that it can be hijacked rather easily.

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

Monopoles

Even atoms have tiny magnetic fields. In the Bohr model of an atom, electrons orbit the nucleus.

Therefore you cannot discover a monopole lying in the ocean.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

So it would be firing bigger shells than my Ajax class ships?

Probably.

Doom, why don't you create it with a central core with all of the firing systems and such, and then four directional "Rails" so it has a better ability to fire instead of only being able to hit things directily in front of it.

On the subject of Railguns...Where is the recoil going?

I am fairly sure that railguns have very little to no recoil as they are not using explosives to move the projectiles. Even if recoil was a major issue the ship would simply move in the opposite direction of where the round was fired.

LNYvk.png

Well, my railguns use very sophisticated bracing techniques, which absorb the recoil and use it to feed more shots into the gun.

Grim, railguns have a heck-ton of recoil.

If a human tried to fire the one which is being tested by the US navy in real life, it would snap him in half and send both him and the gun flying for several dozen metres.

2Xeo5.png
The rails and projectiles must be built from strong conductive materials; the rails need to survive the violence of an accelerating projectile, and heating due to the large currents and friction involved. The recoil force exerted on the rails is equal and opposite to the force propelling the projectile. The seat of the recoil force is still debated. The traditional equations predict that the recoil force acts on the breech of the railgun. Another school of thought invokes Ampère's force law and asserts that it acts along the length of the rails (which is their strongest axis). The rails also repel themselves via a sideways force caused by the rails being pushed by the magnetic field, just as the projectile is. The rails need to survive this without bending, and must be very securely mounted.

EDIT: Hmm. I don't think it will be that big of an issue.

What is wrong with monopoles?

It would say it was fairly important...if you are charging into an attack at, say 900Km/s and you railgun a 1 kg missile out at 2000 Km/S you are looking at 2.9 gigatonnes of force.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Research/Building:

Metahuman forces 9/10

Urban quarantine facilites: finished

Shipyard on Opez: finished

Shipyard on Nost Hu: finished

Work now begins on two orbital defense platforms for Nost Hu, one for Afkia, and one for Ohan.

The sour dough of the epitmous pie hungers for another's sweet lips to be dulled into a state of most irreverant humbleness

Well the ship itself would be dealing with just as much force just by moving, usually.

I don't see how they ARE monopoles.

Ummmm... If you are traveling forwards at a steady speed there are no forces acting on you. If you suddenly decide to push something then there is a force acting on you and since it is negating the speed you are already traveling at it counts twice.(I think)

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Because they come in layers of positive and negative, where as they should come in positive and negative, without distinction.

Isn't a railgun pulling it rather than pushing? I don't know how that would work.

I have the perfect excuse.

The magnetic poles in my planet shift and switch regularly. :)

Sorry...wouldn't that eventually rip the planet apart?

Railguns work by repulsion, usually... It can't stay where it is, can't go back, can't go up down left or right, has to go forwards.

All the forces except the back force are acting on it, so therefore the ship is pushing and therefore the projectile is pushing back on the ship.

Its not doubled, I am thinking of something else. But for 900 km/s at 1 Kilogram it would be 900*1000(km to m)*1000(kg to g)*10(to newtons) of force.

So... 9,000,000,000 Newtons.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Nah, Earth does it every 5000 years or so.

It doesn't mean you can have monopoles.
