So it seems favorite music lists are out of the question for the non-regular MMT forum viewer, so i thought i'd give movies a shot. I will say before i show some of my favorite movies, which i would reccomend to anybody, i am not a film buff. I wouldn't know one director from another if they passed me in the street and i rarely know actor names. But i think this does give me a good judgement on films, i don't go into them expecting anything.

 

 

 

Another note is that i'm a classic male movie watcher, i will watch a film for pure entertainment, and that will show through my list of what i think are the best Action movies ever.

 

 

 

I'd also like your opinions on some other great action films you think should be on this list.

 

 

 

1. Con-Air

 

 

Definately one of my favorite films of all time. This film has action, it has explosions, but it also has a heart and a good story behind it. It's also in my opinion, one of Nicholas Cage's best films. The film hs countless famous faces in it, and all of them are very convincing. It also has one of the best endings of an action film i've seen, very rarely can an action movie make me cry at the end, but this one can.

 

 

 

2. Shoot 'em Up

 

 

Gore, comedy and fast paced shooting scenes are the key for this film. With a great soundtrack to boot, this film can get you pumped just watching it. It's hard not to like a film that has a shoot out to the Ace of spades song. The film gets straight into the action, with a 5 minute action scene right from the start. I've never seen sombody look so cool while eating a carrot either.

 

 

 

3. Die Hard: With a Vengeance

 

 

One of the two Die Hard films on my list, Again, as with the first (later on in my list), Bruce willis fits his role perfectly as the Cop who on the surface doesen't care, but deep down just wants to save the day. Samuel L Jackson works well beside Willis which turns the film into a buddy movie of sorts. But the film still has the same explosive fast paced action which made the previous two films big hits.

 

 

 

 

 

4. The Incredible Hulk

 

 

This being the 2008 movie, not the erlier HULK movie (which imo was a monstrosity). This film is exactly what a hulk movie should be in my opinion. It had a healthy mix of action and non-action, whereas the erlier HULK movie lacked action, and the non-action was very bland aswell. The non-action in this movie isn't oscar standard, but it is acceptable, but the main draw are the action sequences. The hulk looks amazing, and seems unstoppable going through so many foes during this movie.

 

 

 

5. Die Hard

 

 

Well, do i even have to explain what makes this movie so good? Immortal one liners and gritty action make this film a true classic. One of the first action films i saw as a child, this movie beats a vast majority of what's pumped out today. Bruce Willis shone in this film, i don't think anybody else could have looked the part as much as him. This films best to see at Christmas time, as the ending credits come on with a Chistmas song, that has ou feeling great after watching the film.

 

 

 

 

 

6. Under Seige

 

 

This is an action film that atually lacks action. I know, it seems strane me saying that, but if you watch it, it doesen't have a whole lot of big shoot outs compared to other action films. The main character Casey Ryback that Steven Segal plays, doesen't rely on brute strength like most action stars, he uses home-mae bombs, knives and martial arts to subdue alot of his enemies in this film, which adds something in my opinion.

 

 

 

7. 300

 

 

This film has style, and tons of it. I felt as if i was there when that first wave of enemies hit their shield wall during the main battle. This film doesen't hold back on showing you what happens on the battlefield, with various times seeing the men having to dispose of the dead bodies of the enmies. Another added bonus is a partly true story, which ok, has a fair amount exaggerated, still adds another element to the feel of it to me

 

 

 

8. Goldeneye (James Bond)

 

 

This was Peirce Brosnan's first outing as Bond, and he made this film great. In my opinion, he just has the perfect look to carry this film off in my opinion. The tank chase is a big highlight of this film, but it is a must see if you haven't seen a James Bond film before.

 

 

 

9. Total Recall

 

 

One of Arnies best acton films by far. Personally, i prefer it over the Terminaor films because it involves a bit more imaginative, and fun. A woman with 3 breasts can also elevate a film fairly high :lol: . The film is classic corny futurisic, but that adds some fun to the film. I's not often you see so much corny stuff in one film, but it works.

 

 

 

10. Dirty Harry

 

 

It may not class as a full on action film, but more of a crime drama, but it is a kick [wagon] movie. It's gritty and realistic, and a classic Eastwood film.

 

 

 

 

 

So there you go, a classic males perspective on what makes a top 10 movies list. If you want a great night of entertainment, those are some of the films to watch. Unfortunately there were alot of others i wanted to ad to the list, such as Various Van Damne Films : .

Cool idea. No Bourne though? 3 of the greatest action films imo, especially the third one.

 

Never really liked Con Air though, the whole landing in the middle of the strip thing seemed too unrealistic.

 

 

 

And yea, Dirty Harry is epic.

Somehow i totally forgot the bourne movies. They would definately have been on that list. There were alot of films i couldn't fit in there, Transformers one, was going to put the street fighter movie in there aswell, i could have done with doing 20 :

I've only seen one movie in your list (300) and I thought it was overrated.

I like the movie list idea. !0 movies seems kinda short cause there are a lot of great action movies that are left out imo.

Yeah, i would have done more than 10, but i didn't want to just thin out and have filler near the end, and 10 took me quite a while to do actually haha.

I don't think its really fair to sigh at the list, and then say that your not a big action fan anyway. If your looking for smart intelligent films, this list isn't for you. But for pure entertainment value, these films are top notch.

Yeah, 'cause The Dark Knight isn't overrated at all.....

Did I say it wasn't? No, I didn't. But Dark Knight is the only movie I've liked that I've seen in Theaters in 3-4 years, next to Up.

While there are lots of different action genres, and Scarface could fit into one, I usually list it under the Crime genre.

Shoot 'em Up?!?! SERIOUSLY? Thats by far the most [developmentally delayed]ed movie i've watched in my life. Waste of my time. Sorry but IMO, your list sucks. Leaves out some big holes....maybe its the time they came out/age....idk.
