Stoner Doom

Featured Replies

And all related stoner/sludge/doom/-metal/-rock/whatever genres. I honestly don't know the difference.

I checked out Sleep's Dopesmoker album because some people in the 'What are you listening to right now?!' thread were listening to it, and I really liked it. I've also downloaded some Electric Wizard and Asunder albums, those are pretty good too from what I've heard so far.

So, is anyone into this type of music? Can you recommend some bands I should check out? I don't really know where to start, it seems to be a pretty broad genre.

This thread can of course also be used for any general discussion about the genre, thanks in advance for any recommendations. :D

I don't know a huge amount about it either. I think Necrobean (sp?) is the go-to guy on this subject though.

Acid Bath are the only Sludge band I listen to, but they're absolutely fantastic; particularly Paegan Terrorism Tactics. As for Doom, Isis, Cult of Luna (though I guess they're both more Post-Metal?), Ahab, and My Dying Bride are all pretty good.

Cool.

Boris.

Get Amplifier Worship, Heavy Rocks, Akuma no Uta, Pink, and Smile. Pretty much THE stoner band that everyone has to listen to.

I started getting into Stoner metal last week actually.

Some bands I like:

Corrosion of Conformity (Deliverance is a good album), Grand Magus are awesome, and early Spiritual Beggars.

Also, Crowbar are really great - I think it's Sludge metal, not sure though. Their debut album was produced by Phil Anselmo.

Slo Burn & Kyuss

Not really into sludge or doom :| Some of the bands sound like they get great reviews but for some reason I subconsciously avoid it :/

Same suggestions from me, haha. It pretty much gets to a point where I/Jaerk get on steam and end up saying "hey go download this album" every time. :wall:

Haha. Usually I pull the sarcasm card when I make fun of someone's favourite band.

But OM is indeed fantastic.

Om is weird, I wanna say spiritual but then again I don't.

Vocals very different from Sleep though.

Btw, is Goatsnake good?

Warning is by far my favourite from that list. The best doom metal band in the past 10 years, easily.

Now I will burst your bubble.

I went to the dark side  (electronic genres).

Though there doesn't pass a day that I don't put on the acid bath cd (when the kite string pops?) and a few stoner/doom/funeral/thrash/...RANDOMGENRE. songs!

;>

Didn't know you were as big of a doom fan necrobean. :)

I'll check out your doom recommendations.

Gah, there's way too many sub-genres in music nowadays.

Nah, they're all in Metal and Electronic. Everything else is fine. :)

Cool.

Not really, I have an endless list of subgenres, it's something I started doing very soon; dividing my music in subgenres. Just way more useful; especially when I want something along the same lines.

I don't understand why everybody whines about subgenres, it's really not that hard.

Maybe it's just that Metal is the only genre I understand enough to know almost all of the sub-genres. And I sort of get it. If you're new to a genre, you're not going to really be able to tell the difference between some of the more specific sub-genres, and it can be a bit daunting. They're really useful though.

Cool.
