Music is like anything else, you either like it or you don't. A lot of people like metal, and a lot of people like Lady Gaga. I, personally, have grown past the pop stage. That seemed to be where most kids drifted during late elementary school was pop, and during middle you find something you really like whether it be rap or metal, and then you see pop through a different perspective. That's how me and my friends grew into music, and this is why so many crappy pop bands with the same sound and same look can get away with singing this stuff. In my opinion, pop is the mid point, the neutral zone. Then you go off to other things and get more into that. Or you may stay in the pop area. I personally enjoy rock and 80's pop, 80's pop I have just had to live with being the son of parents who grew up during that time, and rock was from middle school when I branched off. I didn't know what heavy metal was until I got halfway through fifth grade.

 

Not to say all pop is bad, I saw her on SNL and she is alright, better then some, but still just seems like another regular, average pop lady.

Hmm, on general principle I didn't listen to anything she did (or any other new music for that matter) for the past year or so, but a few weeks ago I decided I needed to know what the popular music was like. There were only a few songs I didn't turn off after 3 or 4 seconds, and one of them was a Lady Gaga song. Can't remember which one. But I checked out a few on youtube and am not a fan.

She is too feminine, and any kind of 'visual proof' was a publicity stunt.

Her lyrics are dumb, but i admit her beats are solid. She should do a colab with Cascada (who is the same concept, with adverse strengths). That'd be pretty sweet.

 

She's probably the first thing that I've ever taken off the coporate spoon. Ah well, it had to happen sometime. And it's not like I REALLY like it. Just the background music.

Sometimes her lyrics are indeed a bit... plain. But some songs I think she does nicely. And I'll check out the artist you mentioned =D

She's fine to hear on the radio every once in a while, but once it's on your Ipod you will start to hate her songs. ;)

When I heard her songs the first time I really disliked them but now that I've listened to them a couple of times (thank you teenage sister), I find them catchy.

I agree with saru, music is extremely subjectiv and in the end is more down to your own personality than anything. So you shouldn't criticise.

 

I might not like lady gaga, but that doesn't mean that she is bad; Like I mentioned, she just doesn't click with me. I like songs with rich, deep meaning or a very nice bass (hardstyle pl0x). Death Metal is heavily scrutinised as devil worshipa nd all that crap, but if you explore the song you find a much deeper meaning than you first envisioned. Like Lamb of God for instance.

Seriously though there is plenty non-subjective things to criticize music for. Some people are just not good musicians, or are just average and nothing special. It's not really a matter of subjectivity at that point.

I thought she was dreadful, then I saw her at V Festival. Couldn't see a thing but it was the most fun I had all weekend for sure. Quite fond of her now. Not fond enough to buy the album though - waiting for it to come out on Spotify first :wink:

I meant waiting for it to be accessible to free accounts lol. Not too bothered about buying it, I can wait another week or two... prefer her more as an overall performer with the huge productions than as a singer, not really my sort of music.

you know, i'm ashamed to say that i like her, it's nice upbeat music though which is more what i need now, don't give a damn about lyrics, although the immature part of me laughs at all the innuendo.

I respect Lady Gaga as an artist because she's very different from traditional pop and romance songs we see today. That being said, I may not be a big fan of her music, but I definitely have respect for her style. She's downright dirty, almost disgusting, and very different from other modern songs, and that's the reason she's so damn popular. I'm sure record dealers are slapping themselves on the head repeatedly right now wondering why on earth she's getting millions for singing about poker, disco sticks, and babbling randomly in Bad Romance. It's the paradox of the music industry
