champion
Well Joe won so it's time to buy! He's currently 3rd in the iTunes chart with Lady Gaga 2nd and RATM 1st. I really hope he doesn't get the number one, would be even better if he was beaten by Gaga too :grin:He's number one now, but that's just on iTunes. BloodAngel
RATM are currently ahead in the charts by approximately 5000 units with Joe's single to be release as a CD Single tomorrow.http://new.uk.music.yahoo.com/blogs/snapcrackleandpop/33227/rage-winning-chart-battle/ "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale." JoeDaStudd
I saw this floating around and the fact Simon is taking it as a personal attack is forcing me to buy the song.I like the song, just not a massive fan of paying more then 20 to 30p for a track. Well I suppose its for a good cause. Danqazmlp
One thing that hit me, as this is a UK thing. Why did they not choose a classic Xmas song, much like the Slade or Wizard ones, I would bet they would get more people buying them. Want to be my friend? Kiriyama
Danq, I believe it's because they're trying to send a message to Simon Cowell, never actually thought about it that way until someone said, but it seems a good point. A Christmas song would not have the same effect. Joe, can you give us a source on Cowell taking it as a personal attack? assassin_696
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article6957324.ece If theres a campaign, and I think the campaigns aimed directly at me, its stupid. Me having a number one record at Christmas is not going to change my life particularly. It does however change these guys lives and we put this opportunity there so that the winner of The X Factor gets the chance of having a big hit record. I think its quite a cynical campaign geared at me which is actually going to spoil the party. You know you've got a worthwhile campaign going when Simon Cowell thinks it's stupid. Johannas
It's a great attack on manufactured pop crap. But i wonder how many people joined the facebook group without buying the song  Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
Kiriyama
Thanks Assassin and Joe for those links. Cowell seems to be more of a stuck up [puncture] than ever. If RATM do get Christmas No1, then it shows that a majority are sick of the latest X-Factor winner singing. I think he was trying to say it was a big oppertunity for the winner, but, honestly, if they're getting No1 year after year, where's the fun in that? At least this year there's some competition. Plugpoint
Who's in the lead at the moment? Joe's single went on sale on CD yesterday so I was wondering if that had changed things. I'm not buying either, I like both 'proper' music and The X Factor. Will be interesting to see who wins this though. Maxed 15/06/
Jaziek
Rage are slightly in the lead at this point. Still no hope in hell that they'll actually win though.
Plugpoint
Ah okay thanks. Yeah, I doubt they'll win seeing as 19 million people watched the final. There's about 700,000 people in that Facebook group, even if every single person in that group downloaded RATM (which not all of them will), only something like 4% of the people who watched the final need to download Joe's single to get him to #1. Futurama
It's a bit of a daft battle really, seeing as both are licensed to sub-labels of Sony Records. Either this is coincidence or Sony are incredibly clever.Still, fair play. If anything, it shows off the power of the internet - and that we're not all mindless pop-loving drones. BloodAngel
RATM still ahead by 40k units according to the radio this morning, they might do it though I'm not holding my breath and now Cheryl Cole is getting all upset that people are ruining Joe's dream. It isn't like Simon and Cheryl couldn't go to HMV and buy out all the singles if they wanted to. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale." 1_man_army
It isn't like Simon and Cheryl couldn't go to HMV and buy out all the singles if they wanted to. Bulk buying is against UK chart rules, it would make it ineligible. So no, they can't. Racheya
*epic facepalm* Oh Joe. I feel sorry for him, deluded into thinking he's more deserving because he's been on TV for so many weeks. I really want this to win, but even if it doesn't, at least it's made this year's Christmas #1 at least a bit of a competition, and it's managed to solidify my utter hate of Simon Cowell and X Factor. BloodAngel
Sounds to me he listened to his own song rather than RATM  I'd rather listen to RATM over Christmas dinner than some Miley Cyrus cover. There seem to be conflicting evidence of who is leading so we can assume it is very close at the moment.
