UK Christmas #1 - Not X-Factor!

Ok so hello there, if you are from outside of the UK/Republic of Ireland this doesn't really concern you but feel free to take part!

Fed up of Simon Cowell's latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1? Me too... So who's up for a mass-purchase of the track 'KILLING IN THE NAME' from December 13th (DON'T BUY IT YET!) as a protest to the X-Factor monotony?

This year the Christmas No.1 will be announced on Sunday 20th December. Which means... ONLY buy the track from Chart-eligible download sites (links to be posted when required) between these dates:

SUNDAY 13/12 from 00:01am -to- SATURDAY 19/12 at 11:59pm

Want proof of this actually happening?

For those who have Facebook: http://[Censored - Don't use a URL shortner]/inthename

For those who have Twitter: hashtag - #ratm4xmas

For those who want to hear this fantastic song:

Thank you for your support :)

Does no one else see the irony in buying a Rage Against the Machine track because they're told to do so..?

Anyway, as nice as it'd be for there to not be a song made purely for commercial purposes to be the Christmas #1 it doesn't really interest me because 1. I don't pay any attention to the charts, let alone popular music and 2. I'm not a fan of RAtM. If the song was something from oh, I don't know.. John Coltrane/Fat Jon/Miles Davis/A Tribe called Quest then I'd definitely be interested :P

RATM was always about going against the establishment - not doing what you are told - since you are buying it as part of a mass plan its ironic.

Good song, I'd participate if i could.

Over rated song. They could have at least chose a better one.

It may not be their best but it is the most famous - definitely has the highest chance of success since with guitar hero most people have at least heard of it.

Even though I don't like the song I'm going to buy it because I'm fed up of X Factor. I saw on 4Music the other day that they were doing "A Decade of Christmas #1s" which I thought would get me in the mood for Christmas, instead about 6 of them were depressing, rubbish songs from X Factor "winners."

I did it last year for Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah to try and beat Alexandra whatsername's (what was her name?) version getting to No.1. Jeff's version came a solid number 2 but was trounced by the Cowell marketing machine. I like the idea, but probably won't be doing it this year. All the best though. Does anyone know what the song they (X-factor) are going to be pushing for Xmas no.1 is?

They will be covering The Climb by Miley Cyrus which is even more of a reason to hot have the X Factor winner as #1.

Oh god, at least last year they covered a decent song. How can Simon Cowell bare to look at himself in the mirror?

Oh Jesus. If I needed anymore convincing then there you go.

I remember that song from when I used to play Tony Hawks as a kid, lulz. As much as I think stuff like this really don't work, I might give it a shot.

Here here!

Does the iTunes store count towards the Download chart? I've been meaning to download this song anyway.

Yeah the facebook group has disappeared.

It's now time to buy it guys, this is the week. Go for it.

According to a backup group with ~80,000 members, the original group has been buggy because of the sheer amount of traffic going towards it, but it's just a temporary issue and it should be resolved soon.

Well Joe won so it's time to buy! He's currently 3rd in the iTunes chart with Lady Gaga 2nd and RATM 1st. I really hope he doesn't get the number one, would be even better if he was beaten by Gaga too
