Favourite albums of 2009/the decade?

Featured Replies

What are your favourite albums (or songs) of the last year? Or the last decade?

Was thinking of trying to limit it to 10 albums for this year and 15 for the decade so it's not too much like the 75 albums you should own thread.

Also, they don't have to necessarily be the best albums - just your favourites :^_^:

Top 10 of 2009:

1. Paramore - brand new eyes

2. mewithoutYou - it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's alright.

3. fun. - Aim And Ignite

4. Paper Route - Absence

5. Mew - No More Stories Are Told Today I'm Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories The World Is Grey I'm Tired Let's Wash Away

6. Brand New - Daisy

7. Phoenix - Wolfgang Armadeus Phoenix

It's hard for me to make a list of music from this year, since there aren't much thing that have made a lasting impression on me. So I'll just make a little bit longer decade list of 20 records, if you don't mind of course. :!: It's a list of things that I can't get enough of at the moment. Not much of all those indie bands that were so popular this decade: they are/were fun for a while, but when you've heard them a couple of times they get boring pretty soon. Most of it is recycled stuff anyhow.

Arcade Fire - Funeral (2004)

Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness (2005)

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - No More Shall we Part (2001)

Matt Elliott - Howling Songs (2008)

Radiohead - Amnesiac (2001)

Britney Spears - Blackout (2007)

Sun Kil Moon - April (2008)

Joanna Newsom - Ys (2006)

Gavin Bryars, Philip Jeck, Alter Ego - The Sinking of the Titanic (2007)

Scott Walker - the Drift (2006)

Tom Waits - Orphans (2006)

The Nels Cline Singers - Instrumentals (2002)

Can't say I agree with much of your list, except for:

Brand New - Daisy

<3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3: <3:

Other than that most of the stuff I listen to has been made before 2000.

Ps. Keeping this open as it does have a different focus from the other lists - this is probably the last one we need though :P

For 2009: No particular order or anything.

Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures.

Wolfmother - Cosmic Egg.

Chickenfoot - Chickenfoot.

Spinnerette - Spinnerette.

The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die. (Probably their worst, but hey, it's good)

If you asked me a month ago, Muse's Resistance would probably be there, but now when I listen to it, it's crap.

Only two albums that really sood out to me this year:

Enter Shikari's Common Dreads

Paramore's Brand New Eyes.

So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth,

These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf,

Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in,

Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,

Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,

Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,

Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got,

And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,

And realise that the other world that you're always looking for,

Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,

And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,

After all, you were put on the earth to do this,

So shine your light so bright that all can see,

Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.

Propagandhi's "Supporting Caste" is the best album released this year, for me.

Can't be bothered making a list for the decade.

It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or below
