Hello again. If Hegemony really does go down the tube...as it innevitably seems to be doing...then I am thinking of starting Aerokia the following week(so the 8th).

However, I have been thinking about a cross between Dungeoneering and Hegemony... And Civilization.

You start off as 100 nomads, in a strange new world...you have recently banded together from five smaller tribes, bringing with them the basic knowladge of agricultural, housing, animal husbandry, currency and stone weapons. You are given a Hex map of the local area and you can decide whether to explore or to settle down.

It will work mainly like Colonization(Civs Sister), ie you assign a unit of people to a job and they bring in a set amount of resource per year, from a set area.

The game will probably advance 10 years at a time, given the long time scale, but we will slow down later on....However things back then take a long time, so you probably won't notice much difference, except your population grows faster.

Economy will be simplifed immensely, with units of people bringing in a set amount of coins, which you can spend in three ways...Treasury(Storing money), Science(Research) or Culture(Influence). You cannot spent money from the treasury in the other two though...the money you have stored can be used to buy stuff, to pay for your armies or whatever else.

I can go into more detail if people like, but only if people want to play the game, otherwise I will just launch Aerokia and we will see what happens.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Sounds good, I'll play.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Yeah.

I would highly recommend that people play Colonization(You will need to download DosBox too), since it will help to give people a handle on how cities will work...Basically I am going with the idea that a nation is a collection of cities, and thus cities generate goods, which can be used by the nation.

As opposed to the nation producing goods and the nation using those goods.

I have a 5 hour hole in my schedual tommrow, so I shall write the rules up then.

Vaguely. Colonisation(Go English Spelling) had a much more complicated interface:

EG:

To make coats you needed to assign people to collect furs, which could be done much better by a special type of colonist called a Fur Trapper, then you needed to build a Fur Traders outpost, then you needed to assign people to work there, and that could be done much better if they were the special Fur Traders type of colonist, they would then make Coats, which you would then sell back to your mother country, which would tax the socks off you.

However you might not have any high fur tiles free around your city, and thus only have 6 tonnes of furs coming in per turn, but your outpost has the capacity to make 12, thus you are not recieving 6 units, even though you have the capacity to do so. Or Visa-Versa, leaving you with masses of furs, but very few coats.

Further more if you want to build things you need to cut down trees and send them to a carpenter, who generates 'hammers' which, as you know, builds stuff.

The process for making muskets is the most complex though, since you need to mine or trade ore, then refine that to tools, then refine that to muskets, and Tools are useful as well, so you need to find a good balance between them.

Since sometimes a city might not, for instance, be able to mine ore(No hills nearby perhaps), there was a system called wagon trains, which you could set up to trade between your colonies...ideally taking ore from a city with a surplus and depositing it to a city which didn't have any, but had a high grade of smithy with a high grade of blacksmith.

Which sounds simple, but then the damned AI would station troops between your cities and cut you off...or your trains would get attacked by Natives. Or you would be at war...or sometimes you would need something somewhere else and reorder things without fully thinking it through, leading to the whole breakdown of your empire(well not that bad but you get the point)

The new game will be similar, but will be much wider in scope...ie you can try to extract any sort of resource, rather than the set few.

The game will focus on specialising your towns to produce whatever, as well as building universities and such where you conduct your research...since if you have 20 experts in the field of agriculture they will do far better at researching new agricultural techniques than, say, 20 random people, and the 20 experts will do an even better job if they are in a university which caters for their needs. Thus Universities become specialised over time...so if you do lots of research into...long grain rice(for example), in the University of Bangor, then the University of Bangor becomes far better at studying long grain rice than any of your other Universities.

Basically you could leave it running for a week and, unless a war started or something, things would have progressed stably without you.

Wars would also be much lengther...since the game will be on tiles, as opposed to open plan, units will move at certain speeds(As ever units used to moving fast will be faster than other units, though horses will outstrip even the fastest regular units). So in that respect it is just like Civ... It might take quite a number of turns before your armies meet.

I will try to make it sound less scary =P

Sounds fun, permission to join?

I'm assuming this actually has rules and there aren't any superweapons, right? This seems more structured, and easier to keep up with. The even better part is that since everything is built in a framework, there's absolutely no arguments! :)

Super weapons would probably be rolling a rock down a hill...Biological Warfare would be catapulting diseased animals into besieged cities...

At least until next year sometime when technology has evolved a bit

Maybe try right-clicking, properties, conpability mode?

I think we should try to find some game(mod) where we could actually see the game, thinking maybe settlers or AoE, though then we'd need a huge map and a long time-limit, if any.

Maybe it's a problem with the disc, rather than the computer? Also, you should check if your drivers and Direct X is compatible with the game.
