The attack bonuses tend to outweigh the def of the shield, unless you have low def and need all the help you can get. December 13, 200916 yr Definitely, the attack bonuses of a rune defender are much better to have than the defence bonuses of an obby shield. Unless you're boss hunting or have very low defence.
December 13, 200916 yr I normally recommend the Granite shield if you really wanna save that extra 70k. The Obsidian Shield *does* have +5 strength but the exact same defensive stats if you prefer those over the rune defenders offensive ones.

December 13, 200916 yr In most cases (high skills) Rune Def > DFS > Obby Shield. DFS being out of reach for monetary reasons for most players i say it depends what you kill mainly, and also of your levels. There was a time ,long ago lol before i had high summon and all that fancy gear i found obby shield to be way better than the rune def... I didn't need the extra attack bonuses being allmost maxed in all melee, while the extra def made saving loads food or Guthan's usage.Nowadays it's rune def when melee all the way when use the shield spot (dunno even why i keep my DFS).

December 14, 200916 yr multi combat areas with aggressive creatures such as daggonoths, you would do well to consider the shield. I also find it to give that extra something against rangers. But for most single combat you'll want a rune defender.
