The Dutch have declared their intention to pull out of the Federation, and the US and British Federation have sent troops...so either there can be a parade that goes horribly wrong with the paraders firing on the crowd and thus being totally horrid, or could have exceutions of civilian government....

Anyway, with violence breaking out in the Dutch Free State and the Federation planning to fire bomb the Dutch Free State into submission people in Canada, Wales, Scotland and Soutern Ireland freak out and start revolting. Immediately Britian National Party throws all its weight behind crushing the rebellion, but the British people were never that interested in bombing the Dutch and so the BNP lose control pretty quickly. After a few months of fighting in Britian the PSP(People's Socialist Party) come to power and institute wide ranging reforms, turning Britain into an Alliance of Nations:

England, Britanny, Wales, Scotland, Northern Island and Southern Island

Which basically agree to respect each other's boarders and not to intervene in internal matters, but to all protect each other from foreign agression.

England, which holds most of the power, breaks down into small county-nations which all have local government, though agree to work for the betterment of England.

 

Anyway, while that is going on America erupts into Civil war after chemical weapons are announced to quell the violence in Canada, as well as the killing of Civilians...ect... With Washington DC under attack by protesters the army moves in, but quickly launches a coup after the Federal Government orders the use of Nerve Gas against protesters. The Federal Government escapes to Texas, while the Army institutes Military Rule in Washington and passes laws to extradite the Federal Government or else refuse to recongnise Texas as a state. Summerily the Texan Government refuses to acknoladge the legitmacy of the Washington Government and calls for Americans everywhere to rise up against the Military Oppression

The Spanish Army refuses to march on Portugal again.

Owing to global warming the world's GDP has begun decreasing, or rather the rate that it is growing is decreasing.

Power consumption is going up in the winter and summer as people try to keep warm/cold.

Deaths from Cancer, Freezing to death and such have increased, leading to an overal increase in the number of deaths per year.

Further more algae fuel is losing its dynamic growth, with decreases in the refining process, caused by a general decrease in quality.

There has been an increase in the number of airplane crashes and freak storms.

Flooding has been reported in many of the Pacific Islands, in Europe, Florida and South East America, Bangladesh, Egypt and other areas which are close to sea level.

Keep in mind that we've been discussing whether or not the US government actually tried to use nerve gas or bullets against civilians. This is the basic jist, though. ;)

The recession was -5%, but that cancels out growth, leaving stagnation of 0%. I forgot about the Pacific ocean one, but Japan switched its currency over to be based on the Argent a while ago, when Grim was going around convincing people to do that.

Well, I've been meaning on making a longer post about how it happened, but Brazil controls Angola at this point, it's been over 5 years (not days). So that helps.

Oh, and that growth rate thing is ridiculous for population. That means, for example, my death rate went from about 8/1000 annually to around 26/1000 annually, which is as bad as some of the worst modern day African Countries. Hell, most of the african nations in real life have significantly lower death rates than that.

Yeah, it was supposed increase gradually, but stuff happened so it has just shot up now. Most of the deaths are from Cancer, the Cold, Stavation and Contaminated Drinking Water, as well as flooding, storms and such.

Why would Cancer be going up? Cold isn't a problem, it's not like people don't have heat. I have a surplus of energy anyways, given the solar roof project, not to mention the wind and solar farms, and so on. Contaminated drinking water, that's why every single city and town has health regulations and some sort of purification system. You know, like in real life.

Starvation isn't as bad for me either, as we export a lot of food, and even if we lose some for some random disease, we still probably have enough.

 

I don't think that accounts for 11 million deaths in a year.

Fallout from when all the nuclear weapons were destroyed, and widening holes in the Ozone layer due to excessive fertalizer use by Japan on its algae fields, producing massive amounts of Nitric Oxide and Nitrous Oxide. In addition to increasing levels of water toxicity caused by changes in the water table explained in a moment.

However people still need to venture outside, and some people do not have electric heaters as of yet, thus the huge Solar Farms and Nuclear plants have been little use to them. But the main point is that people still have to go outside, where they are battered by the elements, and if they are driving then crashes are more likely...if they go swimming in the sea they are likely to get infected with something...There are numerous reasons.

As the water table increases it breaks into coastal sewage systems, delievering tonnes of raw sewage onto the streets and into reservoirs where they would not traditionally be found. Crop yields are down due to changing climate patterns. Added to that your anti-cutting down rainforest bills have left your farms with very little fertile land to use, since they are used to progressing though the forests, growing their crops from the debries the trees leave behind, then letting the cattle move in and use the areas are grazing. I am not sure off all the details here(Sorry) but together these generate a signficant problem for you.

There haven't been any major pandemics yet, though I am sure one will crop up eventually.

I know its a VERY crude system, but I only have a number of generalisations to base the moderation off of.

Doubtlessly there are arguments against every point I say, based on things that only make sense if you were specifically planning to tackle whatever problem I have said exists, like Retech's never changing budget. Hence why, unless it has been stated previously I am saying it doesn't exist.(Within the realism of everything pre 2009)

If you want to start making changes now then fair enough, I can work with that, the changes will take time to implement though. I am not having the 'Well then I completely reorder everything like this and that cancels everything out, then I carry on as before' because it is just stupid.

Well, I'll accept the food one as a problem, as that's the only one that I can really see being a major problem. Fallout wouldn't be a problem 15 years later from deconstructing nuclear weapons. It's not like we're detonating them, and that'd only really be an issue for the US, China, UK, France, and Russia. The ozone layer would mostly be an issue for Japan, as that's where most of it is hitting.

 

I think farms will have adapted to not advancing over the newly destroyed forests over the past 15 years, so I'll say that it's mostly a problem of lower crop yields. For a start, we start researching alternatives to petrol fertilizers, I'll think of more later.

Well... I think it is a good thing that I have been researching both hydroponics and genetics for quite a bit now :P .

Since we're used to cold winters here, have underwater settlements, lots of farms and do a lot of fishing I'm guessing I'll be one of those who'll survive the best.
