And to also clear things up, they're getting DOCUMENTATION, visa only countries wont work, as they're getting visas and such, entire ID's, even bank accounts.

The SSR starts building the Great Library of Bucharest. It will be a sprawling building made of marble that will store rare and valuable books from around the world, which will be scanned and copied into digital format for any citizen (with a library card!) to check out from the library. The books will then be stored is underground vaults where they will be safe from contamination, disasters, tampering, and destruction at the hands of foreign militaries.

 

If anyone knows of any rare books that your country owns, now is a chance to make some decent money for your war machines.

The SSR would also like to extend a deal to Brazil to purchase 200,000 tons of iron per year in exchange for $110 per ton. So, 36m per year.

 

SSR would also like to hammer out a deal with China for 800,000 tons of coal per year at the cost of $230 per ton. So, the trade would be for 800,000 tons of Chinese coal for $184 million dollars per year.

 

Note: These prices are slightly above the market values. Also, China is the leading exporter of coal, and Brazil holds the majority of the sea-shipping market for Iron. So, this isn't going to deplete anyones stores.

In light of the news of the Swiss-Russo project to dam the Suez canal and disrupt international trade, SSR peacekeeping troops have landed in Ethiopia in the dead of night, and after a skirmish with some of the workers who are driven off with tear gas, take up positions in the construction zones. The peacekeeping force totals 900 soldiers, 2 frigates, and 4 patrol boats. They are being supplied by SSR naval vessels, but have asked for Indian assistance with supplying food. Only around 300 of these soldiers are armed with real rifles, the others have either riot shields and batons, or rifles that shoot rubber bullets/teargas canisters. The SSR troops have gas masks as well, remembering the Swiss' use of nerve gas and chemical weapons in Somalia.

 

The SSR would like to remind both Switzerland and Russia that attempting to remove the troops through force will be considered an act of war.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if the UN, taking into account Switzerland's past plots to destablize the world economy and create an economic disaster, would rule in favour of the SSR in this. A message to Russia is also sent reminding the Russian leadership that we are allies.

Switzerland reveals its plan to turn the Suez Canel into a large Algea farm, the algea could then be harvested at 100 times the efficency of growing oil crops on land, and wouldn't take valuable space away from food crops.

 

Switzerland reminds SSR that they have invaded a Sovereign country and that they have commited an act of war.

Work is continuing on the dam, further actions will result in a state of war existing between the nation attacking Swiss Ethiopia and Switzerland and Nerve Gas will be used.

Japan notes that the moss-farms are already grown in the sea. It also prepares aid for Romania, should it choose to accept it.

Except that moss can only survive in certain conditions on coastal waters (it has to be shady), so only areas which have been designated as moss growing areas are habitable by moss. That's why there are giant tarps which filter out sunlight (not all, some) so the moss can grow.

It won't, because Moss cannot grow in open waters, even if I dumped a thousand spores there. There is such thing as moss oil. Well it's not technically called moss oil, but it exists today. It was listed as a promising carbon neutral solution to the depleting oil reserves. The only problems were basically they were trying to breed a new kind of moss which gives a high quantity of extract to be used, and they needed a way of growing it. And tada, problems solved.

The airline-giant company Boeing has released an 8 page report in which are extolled the virtues of a biodiesel made from algae. As has been discussed in some previous postings on Energy Balance, the apparent advantage of making biodiesel from algae rather than from crops is that perhaps 100 times more of it could be produced per hectare, whereupon the proposition does begin to look like a possibility. However, the site oilgae (link to the top left here) discusses the various difficulties that must be circumvented before this could become a reality. It is hence, another untested technology on the grand scale, although I remain optimistic that it could contribute to the final energy mix we will employ in the future. There are also fears that since the type of algae necessary will be a very tough and competitive strain, it could "escape" and contaminate the wider world, resulting in toxic algal blooms that are not readily controlled by nature.
