Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Well, I've just got home from work, having just finished screening the new Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief movie.

I love-love-loved it!

Granted, it's been a while since I read the first book of this series, so that may have helped. I'm sure that several cannon facts from the books were changed in the film version, but nothing was glaringly obvious. (Usually movies based off of books [see: Harry Potter] cause me to scream at the screen in outrage of the director having changed key elements.)

While I may be a manager at a movie theater, I don't ever claim to be a good film critic, so I won't be giving my thoughts on such things as directing, lighting, sound, etc. :P

The movie kept my eyes glued to the screen the entire time, and I was wiggling in my seat, clapping all alone in the dark, and cackling like a crazy person.

I think that Logan Lerman (who plays the title character, Percy Jackson) did a great job, and really hope he is re-cast in the announced second film!

[hide=Aarrrgh! Here be spoilers!]Uma Thurman did a wonderful job playing the part of Medusa! <3: When she first appeared on screen, I burst out laughing. The entire Medusa scene was great, and, well, for those of you who have read the book, it's a shame that she... you know... was beheaded.

ALL I WILL SAY IS: LOTUS HOTEL AND CASINO SEQUENCE + PERCY, ANNABETH, AND GROVER TRIPPING OUT ON LOTUS FLOWERS + LADA GAGA'S POKER FACE AS THE BACKGROUND SONG = AWESOME!!![/hide]

Anyway, once you have seen the movie, please share your thoughts!

And for those of you who HAVEN'T seen it yet, STICK AROUND DURING THE CREDITS. There's a funny scene at the end.

Well, having the job I do is kind of a win-lose situation.

Reading is my biggest passion, but I'm a huge movie nerd (hence why I love working at a theater so much.)

Unfortunately, those two don't always get along, as movies based off of books are usually... well... yeah. If you are a fan of the Eragon books, you'll know what I mean when I say I facedesk'd while watching the movie.

That being said, I've long since learned to never compare books and films based off of those books. That went over really well for Lightning Thief. As I said, I was entertained the entire time, and on the whole, there were probably only one or two things that I could have done without. (And these weren't even things that differed from the book -- mainly just issues with them trying to make the movie more "mainstream" I guess, by sneaking in a few cliched bits we've all seen and heard before.)

I wasn't really that disappointed in Eragon though, however, the book just remains far superior to the movie :P

Eragon the movie was a complete failure in my opinion, which is part of the reason that I don't really want to watch movies about books I've read.

I loved the books and have set myself up to be disappointed for the movie, hoping that I will be pleasantly surprised :XD: (because with the exception of LotR, movies are never as good as the book) I'm going to see the midnight showing tonight :)

i actually kinda liked the trailer, but ill just wait for a... dvd copy :P

P.S. Eragon sucks :P

what? you don't like harry potter meets lord of the rings meets star wars?

(yeah it sucks)

Don't forget "meets Dragonriders of Pern." Not to mention I almost cried with laughter when, in the books, what's-his-name basically said "Eragon... I am your half brother."

Aaaaaaanyway :P I just got back from the midnight showing of The Lightning Thief! My opinion of it (putting it all in hide tags just in case):

[hide=Not much of a spoiler, but just in case..]It was VERY different from the book, but oddly enough.. it didn't bother me. I rather enjoyed all the changes. The movie was very entertaining and I liked it a lot :) Definitely looking forward to the next ones![/hide]

I'll check it out ,but probably won't like it. The plot is so overused, it seems every other movie contains:

A boy, an average normal boy

WHO HAS A SPECIAL POWER NO ONE ELSE DOES!

And the people he thought he could trust...

ARE OUT TO GET HIM

So he bands together with his friends

WHO ALSO HAVE SPECIAL POWERS

And defeat enormous monsters.

I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Comped 4/30/15

And then the main character makes out with the hot chick who wouldn't want him at first but now sees him as he really is and doesn't care about the special power that once stood between them and their happyness.

I haven't seen the movie but the trailer looks like someone raped Greek mythology.

Retired

2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes

Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks.

And they're technically blood related. Squick.

Saw it yesterday and, while it was alright, some of the acting/writing was kind of akward or just.....not right I guess. Forced.

[spoiler=Examples]The fury "Or I'll bite your heart out!", Hades "I sent the Minotaur to abduct her" and medusa "I dated your daddy!"

Just didn't feel like it was delivered well there.

[spoiler=Also]Why did he have to pretend to be crippled? It just calls more attention to him and he didn't appear to walk much differently without the crutches while disguised.

And how the gods just accepted his explanation as to who had the bolt without question.

the movie is nothing like the book, but it's still pretty good.

I loved the books but i hope that the movie doesn't ruin it (like harry potter/ inheritance cycle).

Won't go to the movies to see it, probably rent from the redbox once it's out on dvd.

(the book series really sparked an interest in greek mythology for me)
