I switched from protoss before the whole infestor thing became popular and just haven't been playing a whole lot.

I tried out that protoss immortal build. Absolutely destroyed a terran with it but I felt bad because he wasn't even 1 basing.

Did come across the 1-1-1 today. Not a fun experience.

only went 8-5, mostly lost to me screwing up 4 gate in PvP (need to sort timing out...)

And ran into my real life friend on ladder, screwed up really badly and got roflstomped. Might not hear the end of it for a while.

Promoted to platinum also! My plan is diamond by the end of the week which should be ok as I was facing diamonds when I was in gold league so I guess my MMR is around high platinum level..

And had some funny terran tears after I "void ray all-in'ed him" even though I expanded behind it, did a fair amount of damage and then destroyed him in the macro game. The only thing I can say to that is to make ghosts wtf man!

I'm now 30-18 in my matches this week :)

8-10 in PvP

9-6 in PvT

13-2 in PvZ

Just held off a 1-1-1 using that immortal build. Was wondering what you look out for when scouting a 1-1-1. Probe tends to die after the marine completes and I never see a factory go down.

PvP I just lose because I suck at timing it and one gate doesn't finish before warp gate and then I try build units but they stack up in one gate and it's a huge mess... And my proxy pylon always dies or the probe dies :< Just generally a huge fail.

I must be getting closer to diamond.

Also High Templar. Good unit.

I haven't played a whole lot as each time I play I always come up against a terran using mass mech and it just pisses me off as there's not a whole lot I can do about it. I have absolutely no problem against Terrans who don't go mass thors and no problems against either protoss or zerg it's just this bloody mass thor build that I can't beat. And it's always in games I've managed to deny them bases and expanding lots myself. I have no way of stopping them getting an army due to them just turtling up on two bases and being untouchable. So my only option is to try and starve them but they just push out once kill my army then park themselves in between my bases to the point where I can't build up enough of an army again to stop them.

Although each time it seems to be on the same map (can't remember name, it's the one with the easy 3rd with also got rock access, one of the new maps). I should just veto it.

It sounds like zergling infestor (with NP) would work against that?

I'd figure as an old protoss player you'd have switched to zerg because of infestors.

Get them. Always. There is no reason not to. Against mass thor just NP all the thors.

That's not going to work come the 1.4 patch, Blizz is making it impossible to NP massive units apparently.

In any case, as for that Protoss 1/1/1 build, it looks cool, although I can see a ghost/marine stopping it, alongside a 2 port banshee build breaking it. Marines and ghosts emp the large part of the army, preferably the stalkers while the banshees pick at the stalkers. You lose your stalkers, and the banshees will have a field day with what you have lying around, even moreso if they have cloak and you forget an obs.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Zerglings get destroyed by the tanks/hellions and infestors do well but you need too many of them to do all thors to the point that if I lose the initial attack I can't get enough back out to help.

Infestor/roach or infestor/roach/brood should absolutely crush any mech play. No need for zerglings at all.

It's a counterable build, certainly. However it takes thought and much like the 111 it is actually very adaptive. Banshee centric builds you can scout and just counter with more stalkers (stalkers+guardian shield will destroy banshees) and you will always have an obs anyways from your robo. ghost/marine fast +1 weapons off of a FE is honestly the only way I think you can counter this build well.

PvP I just lose because I suck at timing it and one gate doesn't finish before warp gate and then I try build units but they stack up in one gate and it's a huge mess... And my proxy pylon always dies or the probe dies :< Just generally a huge fail.

4 gate is super easy timing, how are you failing it?

12 gate

14 gas

15 pylon

core as gate finishes

zealot after core

stalker as core finishes

warpgate research + chrono

cut probes @20 probes (24 supply)

3 extra gates when you have the money to do it (they line up perfectly with the warpgate if you do it right).

@24 proxy pylon somewhere near their base and head out with stalker/zealot

Than just place 2 pylons if you can near their ramp so that you can warp up it if they are defending with a sentry. Easy.

Signed up for the Giant Bomb Community Tournament today even though I suck. I'm sure it'll be fun and I hope to be able to win at least one game (double elimination).

While practising on the US servers to get used to latency and stuff I managed to get promoted to Platinum :D. Funnily enough it was against mass mech terran but he kept pushing out and I kept stopping his pushes pretty much. Got out a lot of infestors (earlier than I normally do) and just expanded on the map while keeping him on 2 bases for a while. Then made a bunch of brood lords and attacked his natural SCVs while having my main force attacking his 3rd (this is on Tal'Darim) then just steam rolling the rest of his army :D.

Lost one stupid game to Protoss due to bad unit control which was slightly upsetting seeing as I should have won but I didn't drone enough myself and he managed to shut down my gold base oh well didn't matter in the end :)

Ugh, literally every masters player I've played so far has been a zerg. Wtf.

Speaking of masters Zergs that's who I played in the tournament, was just a BO1 in both rounds.

First game was against the winner of the whole tournament who I very nearly beat. I'd managed to snipe his expansion and had a 10 supply lead (like 28 vs 38) while he switched to banelings which I scouted early enough so I throw down a roach warren. I build an extra gas to make sure I'd be able to pump out enough roaches the only problem being I forgot to put drones back on gas after taking them off and didn't put any on the new one either so I quickly exhausted my gas supply with about 3 roaches and my lings just got overwhelmed and unfortunately I lost. If it wasn't for that simple mistake or if I'd have left drones on gas I'd have won the game and beaten the player who didn't drop a single game all tournament.

In the lower bracket I then lost to another masters zerg who took 3rd place, he went for very early 6 lings and my spine crawler just failed to get up otherwise I could have held off, oh well.

Had a massive loss streak today. I tilted really hard and left a bunch of PvP's in a row. Fell from like Rank 2 to rank 14.

Clawing my way back up though. The good thing is that every time I fall I end up getting further ahead. Last time I did this I had just faced my first masters and than had a big loss streak. This time I got back and was facing a ton of masters until I fell down a bit.

Shouldn't be too hard to get my MMR/rank back up. Kind of the downfall I guess to how I play lol. I rarely just go win/lose/win/lose... its more like win/win/win/win x5 than lose/lose/lose/lose x5 and repeat. I find I pretty much crush a certain bracket of players , get really high up, get crushed by masters, tilt and fall.

Also I have a clear plan in all 3 matchups now.

PvT

PvP

PvZ

Just sticking with these 3 builds and not deviating until I get masters. (Unless I see a really good opportunity for something). My goal has still been get masters by the end of Season 3... and I think I'm on track to do that. I just really need to work on a few small things and I think I can win vs them.

So I need a solid T build to start with. I'm only in Gold but it seems as though people are getting smarter about handling MMM tactics. Maybe I need to change up gameplay a bit. I've been told bioball tactics work fine against toss, whereas mech play works better again Z and T due to hellions roasting lings, and siege/vikings are about positional play.

MMM is 100% the best strat vs Toss. Just make sure to have ghosts.

Mech vs Zerg (marine/tank/helion with late game thor) and mech vs Terran is best.

Helions are pretty ok units I heard.

Also I have a pro new avatar.

Recently in an obs game I beat a diamond Protoss as a Terran. And I'm currently silver.

I opened with a 3rax stim pressure build, and I'm not sure what he opened with, but it was long positions on Metalopolis. By the 8 minute mark when my first push hit, he had sentries force fielding the ramp, so I decided to leave a few marines, marauders, and an SCV to bunker his natural and outside his view range while everyone else headed back for defense purposes. During this time I fast teched to a reactored Starport, and pushed out two medivacs. From here I had my ground forces head to his natural, while the medivacs full of units set up near the opposite side of his base over an area where ground units couldn't go.

From here I started a pincer attack, having the ground forces assault his ramp and deal with the few forces he had in his base, which was strange, while the medivacs dropped in his mineral line. Turns out literally less than two seconds later, he apparently hid a warp prism inside the vent area and warped his entire force inside my base. End result: we base traded, killing off both of our bases, although I took the time to quickly move my expo and a few SCVs away while he was busy killing my main. Weird thing being, I didn't see a stargate in his base, so I was wondering for a minute why he didn't lose. Turns out he set up a proxy stargate on a close spawn and he moved his entire force to protect it in some last stand.

From here, I had my expo moved as far away from his force as possible. From here I rebuilt some supply depots, a few raxes, built a large force of marines and marauders, and just rolled in and won, seeing how a force of zealots, stalkers, and immortals are not stopping a huge force of marines and marauders.

As it stands I'm currently on the warpath. Managed to claw my way into Platinum and have no intention of stopping my path of destruction. Fun fact: 3 reapers one-shot worker units, marines, zerglings, and with some kiting can pop small groups of zealots (Takes ~5 seconds to pop a zealot with focus fire), making for a very effective early rush that, should it fail, you can probably tech to siege easily.

Granted I don't see Zerg players often but any early economic damage against them is pretty much necessary to not get out-based.

Played some random 3v3 last night. Was top of every single game even though my team didn't win all of them. One of them went down to a base race which we could have won. I had my probes and nexus killed but had my tech + a warp prism which I used for DT harass and managed to kill off two of the 3 bases and most of the 3rd. The problem was the terran lifted 3 factories and kept them in the air which is useless with dts so I asked my team mates to give me some minerals, one was mining and the other was out yet he just sat there doing nothing. He had a few hydras so I told him to leave one of the bases to me while he takes out the 3 factories yet he ignores me and continues killing a base I had dead so we ended up losing the base race in the end. Frustrating to say the least as we should have won.

Got placed in gold which I guess is about right as I went 3-2.

I've never actually done any team games. Just some 2v2's when I first got the game with a friend. I kind of wanna try some monobattles but then I always just figure I'd rather be laddering to get to masters =P.

I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable in PvT. I'm using warp prism micro for my HT's a lot more to avoid emp's now and I'm putting immortals into my lineup as well. Something like 5-6 immortals in my gateway ball actually helps beef it up a lot. Also I am fairly confident in holding the 1/1/1 build now with my opener (gate > robo > gate > expand) because if I obs scout it coming I cancel the nexus, drop down a stargate and chrono out a few phoenix while getting immortals off of my robo. Killing off the early banshee that comes for harass is huge and then I just lift up the tanks to get into a good position. Kind of easy actually... at least against diamond/low masters level players lol.

Still a bit awkward in PvZ though. I'm making a lot of scrub mistakes in that match up though and I keep getting caught really badly off guard by brood switches. Mutalisks are also the bane of my existence once they get a decent ball... and it is shortly becoming the new go-to ZvP strat I feel post 1.4. Oh well, I know that if I stop doing some stupid things and hammer out a stronger opener than what I am doing now than I should win it a bunch more. I can usually just get by with making big mistakes early game vs diamonds... but vs masters I really can't.

And PvP is, well, PvP. The only good thing is I found a sick colossi timing that has pretty much crushed every protoss I've played on the ladder. So many of them waste a billion gas on sentries out of fear of early pressure.

Did my 3v3 random placements on my EU account now as well. Apparently I'd played one previously which I'd lost, must have been a long time ago now. Won the first game, lost the second game to DTs after both of my allies had been killed off. (He got DTs in as I was being attackewd and didn't notice my mineral line being dead until after I'd fought off the other 3 and was too late, stupid game as I should have won but oh well). Then won the final 2 games. Got placed in Diamond :o wasn't expecting that but it's great. Constantly scored highest in every single game once again. Was pleased with diamond though even though I know it doesn't mean a whole lot as 3v3 but oh well. I need to actually play 1v1s as I can definitely get into Diamond without too much practice.

What's strange is that over the 9 3v3 games I've played as random, not a single one has been zerg (which is my main race) which is even more surprising as to how I got placed in Diamond but not going to complain ;).

Second page? Seriously?

Anyway, hows the new season going for you guys?

I placed into platinum (SEA server) and have been facing diamonds since. My win rate since last season is still 60% so I feel I'm doing well. WIll be headng back home to my awful internet where I'll lag so hard I'll drop half my games, so may use my NA account to do that.

I've been using a lot of proxy pylons lately + warp prisms. Has been working really well. Still having a lot of trouble with zerg counter attacks...

had an epic match the other day where my opponent was 3000/3000 minerals/gas and about to morph in about 12 broods to win the game (I was long distance mining). I attacked him and took out the greater spire right before the coruptors fell and he couldn't get up another greater spire in time and I ended up winning in crazy circumstances.

vs T has been a bit weak lately, the only way I can win is using HT/Zealot/Archon or a 6 gate timing sorta. Feels like colossus just die before doing enough damage.

Also mass banshee+viking+scan... How can you beat that, my only guess is phoenix or an early sort of attack too, but the terran just bunkers up on 2 base.

Back home on laggy net, SC only works at early in morning and you can still feel the lag :(

But I watched a day9 daily that said to turn off mouse scroll (side of screen moving). I'm getting used to it but I feel it's helping me, definitely making me more aware of the minimap. Also said to keep 'tapping' the keys to keep up macro which doesn't help me that much as my macro is pretty good but eh, has been halping me with warpgates - binding the forward pylon is so useful (and shift-warp in, how did I not know about that before...).

Having a bit of trouble vs terran lately, feels that if I go for an early expand they can just kill me, but if they do and I don't I can't do anything because they can just turtle up. Also feels like I get stuck on gateway units for too long.

Played 6 games tonight, went 4-2 and played a few diamonds too (only won 1/2 of those games though). I just need to be more careful with army positioning sometimes and I've been messing up ff's too. How do you do it, is it press f then hold down shift? I've been messing up so badly (not helped by my lag). Also upgrades, gotta get them!

And one other thing is dealing with drops, I overuse my 1-a key so often (for making small adjustments to my armies position) that I accidentaly bring back the units I send to deal with the drop! I'm so bad :P

I think if I learnt some proper build orders and timings, I could make my way into diamond easily. I kind of just wing it a lot of the time.

Also - Nadril I've seen a couple of your posts floating around r/starcraft, have some upvotes :P

Page 2 wtf.

In other news I finally got my goddamn macro in order and am now almost in plat. I've cut down on queuing and in general started getting expos earlier. And coL.drewbie recently posted a guide (link here) on TvX matchups, which I've found to be really damn useful. And I can't beat diamonds either to save my life. For example in a TvT on an obs we both did a 1-1-1 type opening, he responded to a banshee with a viking, and while I kept doing marine/tank pressure and eventually took out his natural and locked him in, he counter-dropped something in the range of four medivacs which contained two tanks and a large handful of marines. I died because I couldn't get enough forces back to stop it. What do?

This was on close by air metalopolis btw.

To be honest if you have a terran locked in his base in close air you really should be expecting some sort of drop play.

You could have just tried a basetrade maybe? Not sure.

I havn't played in weeks because my internet sucks and I can't play a game without dropping :/
