The Earth is FLAT!!

We must throw the evil object off of the edge of the earth!!!!

Please tell me somebody got that reference...

The Gods Must be Crazy if glass bottles of coke are evil :(

Edit: Oh, and the Earth is certainly flat. Tides are the result of the earth wobbling, This moon causing them theory is complete bull.

This hasn't been locked for "spam"? Interesting.

I find it a very interesting topic to poke fun at. :P

This isn't exactly scientific proof, but neither is the earth being spherical... scientific proof :P

Izzat so?

Scientific proof is created when a hypothesis is backed up by an experiment that can prove this, and can be repeated by anybody wanting to do the experiment. Now the earth wasn't proved to be spherical until the first pictures of it from outer space were taken.

In FE's eyes, they say the pictures+everything else is fake therefore making it only a theory :P

I really hope you're just trolling here, but if you aren't:

That theory has a tiny hole... If the Earth really is flat, there's no way one side of it is connected to the other (to explain through the traditional world map, someone from America couldn't fly West and land in Russia.)

And that, my liege, is how we know the earth to be banana-shaped.

If the earth were flat, how come there are different depths of everything. Sea depths, ground depths, etc. I call shinanigans!

its perfectly possible for something to be flat and have a rough surface. we give the spherical earth a special name for it to define every single concave and convex shape on the planet.

Let's be honest, there can't be people watching everyone 24/7. And with the amount of planes/ships in the sea, someone is bound to see this 'ice barrier' and tell others, then the news finds out, and reports that the world is not in fact a sphere. Thus, such a belief is silly in my eyes.

Also, why would governments lie about the world's shape? What can they gain from it?

easy enough to have a few sonar based missile systems along the ice barrier at xkm intervals. Fully automated to take out anything that comes within visual range of the barrier unless it has a "friendly" electronic tag to cause the system to hold fire.

And then many companies would be wondering why their airplanes/ships aren't reporting in.

I find one flaw with the theory:

that we cannot observe that the earth is round ourselves. Everyone who has ever climbed a real mountain, looked down over a sea can see the actual curvature of the earth.

I am my own witness.

ice berg, storm, ran out of fuel, electrical problem... the list of plausible reasons for boats/planes to go missing is endless. Much like the Bermuda Triangle.

That would mean many many ships/planes disappearing, which would undoubtably get some news coverage.

Meh. It was all pretty consistent, but they never explain why it doesn't take 2 days and a half for a flight between Sydney and Buenos Aires.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

I also heard that dwarfs lived under our feet and that the universe is actually a giant tree.

seems like trolling to me.

Seriously though, explain flying from America to say China and not seeing other countries... Do the pilots fly all the way to the North Pole and back down or something?

Why can't the Big Bang be done by the hand of God?

It could have, but it is next to impossible because it also could have been caused by the flying spaghetti monster, or one of the other infinite number of deity possibilities.

Y'know, very few people actually believed the Earth was flat and that if you sailed across the ocean you would fall off. They just knew that the ocean was [bleep]ing gigantic and you'd sail out there and either starve to death or get om nom nom'd by the sea.

Actually they have a very well calculated theory of a cost effective way of watching the entire ice barrier.

and both of those questions are answered in my opening post :P

Anyone who lived in a coastal city would have seen the masts of ships disappear over the horizon.

People seem to confuse the idea of a flat earth with the idea that the sun orbited it. People have known the thing was round for thousands of years. Ancient Greeks even used math to figure out how round.

The first dude to do it was pretty damn close, too. Only about 160 miles off on the (I think) diameter. Pretty good for just eyeballing the horizon, isn't it? Keep in mind this is before even telescopes.

Don't talk smack if you're not willing to say it to the person's face. On the same line, if you're not willing to back up your opinions no matter what, your opinion may as well be nonexistent.

Hell, he may have only been off because it's not a perfect sphere... Which isn't something he could have known at the time.
