Australia in the World Cup, Curse Broken

They have done it, Beat Uruguay in a pneatly shootout deicded match. We scored in the first half making it 1-0. This carried out for the rest of the game making a very tense Over time. Not one of the best soccer games I have seen but Australia has made it after our 32 Years Drought.

The Reffing was a bit better this time but I heard a commentator mention 44 Fouls which was several minutes before the full time whistle. Very dirty match though and alot of Biff nearly started.

Penalty shootout started With Kewell scoring, then out of suprisement we saved the first shot by Urugauy. Second Vidmar scored and so did Urugauy. Then the same. Then when we had it one Viduka missed the shot and then we saved another and it was all down to the last shooter. So much tension and pressure then BANG. It all went Crazy, I am sorry I am not very soccer orientated so I do not remember anyones name but here are the standouts-

Kewell - Did not give up, he was in at it every time and he was playing it awesome

Keeper - Absolutely amazing to me, just an awesome all out performance.

Well I will just wait for someone to sum it up better in the thread. For me the highlight was when the Urugauy couch threw the ball at the Aussie's head. Could not stop laughing.

WE MADE IT AUSSIES!!!

It got about time.

Australia got some good players in their team, Harry Kewell was very good together with Mark Viduka in his period at Leeds United, and Josip Skoko is playing in Turkey if i'm not wrong, he played also in RC Genk, a decent Belgian football team.

I saw the last minutes of the 2nd period, and the penalties. I was shocked when Viduka missed his penalty, becouse i don't like the Uruguay national team. But they made it, go Guus 8)

well mate, i was there, the crowd went off when John Aloisi slotted home the last ball into the net, well, actually, it was crazy from the 1st minute, well before the game, the ref having a whinge about the ball being flat,, then the uruguayan saying it was flat aswell, at that moment i thought to myself

"was the ref being paid..."

then 120minutes later, and a shootout done, NOPE, Uruguay Lose, U will Cry, U R Gay, what ever you'd like to call them, as the crowd was chanting, it was massive.

Uruguay, because of its rich football history, deserved to play in the 2006 World Cup ahead of the Socceroos.

Haha, I just heard a bit of Australian commentary on Radio 2 after Aloisi's penalty and it was brilliant! :P Reminded me of Liverpool's Radio City after the Champions League Final.

Good on you, Aussies! I don't think I've ever said that about Australia before but I'm happy to now, after hearing those guys on the radio and hearing how much it meant. Now go have a great tournament as well! :D

Congratulations to the "socceroos"! Of course you wouldn't have made it without a Dutch coach. :P

After today, it's official that four Dutch coaches will be leading a team for the world cup:

Guus Hiddink - Australia

Leo Beenhakker - Trinidad & Tobago

[bleep] Advocaat - South Korea

Marco van Basten - Holland

I wonder if any other country has that many coaches on the tournament...

Oi, we were cheated out of it twice, 1974 and 1978. Especially in 1974, wrongful penalty.
