April 16, 201016 yr The skill is still new, and so most of the dungeons are unexplored. Which justifies the trailer a little bit..
April 16, 201016 yr To be honest, voice overs would just annoy me. My sound is muted, but even if it weren't I'd just skip it once I've read the text. And think of all the annoying accents and species and... It would be annoying, I don't see why everyone's hyping that up. The graphics look sweet though.

Voice over, to me would be like little pieces during quest cut scenes. Something that makes the atmosphere much more vivid, rather than having a camera rotating showing characters with no sound.
April 16, 201016 yr Sure, with that armour it may be impossible. But what about the Promethium type? That's not impossible in one dungeon. What about Spiritbloom type? What about the Tyrannoleather type? They can be obtained in a dungeon with luck, and maybe a few high level money drops. I never argued that Promethium and Spiritbloom could not be obtained. What's your point? But still, who cares? They're just showing off the best stuff. I care. I find it to be disappointing that we can't do what they show in the video. Would you rather have a video where they were wearing Novite? I see no relation between this question and anything we've discussed thus far. Look, the point is that it's false advertising. This is an irrefutable fact. I find it to be disappointing. While I'm sure that you have plenty to say on the subject of whatever it is that you're talking about, this will be my last response. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
April 16, 201016 yr I want voice overs and the water looks a little like the DX11 water That water is not even close to DX 11.Hardware Tessellation owns. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G9anRoYGko
April 16, 201016 yr Look, the point is that it's false advertising. This is an irrefutable fact. Jagex stated (somewhere it was posted on these forums) that more updates are planned for the dungeoneering skill. Who can say for sure that what was shown in the trailer might not be possible someday? Maybe deeper floors might have multiple bosses (or in future dungeons). We just don't know. Personally, I think we shouldn't be too hasty in our judgments over something that we really only know very little about.

Exactly, and I've mentioned two or three times now that I hope that it's rectified with the second batch of content. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
April 17, 201016 yr Let me just add that I really like the rotating Jagex logo at the start =) Heh I though the exact same. :P It looks really cool. I really enjoyed watching the trailer, the voiceover was just awesome as was the whole opening scene. I'm hoping we get to see some more in the future. Edit: if you dont feel like watching the videos and putting up with their silly background music they have a good explanation on their web page as well. http://unlimiteddetailtechnology.com/description.html High-alching that REALLY expensive item in my inventory looks more and more tempting with every beer I drink.

They can claim anything they want, but until they have some viable software that people can use, no one cares.
April 17, 201016 yr That Unlimited Detail technology looks pretty nice, I wonder if Jagex would ever implement something like that.
April 17, 201016 yr Let me remind all that Runescape is Java based. So all that fancy graphic water people are talking about might not happen. Although the water in the trailer looks very epic.
April 18, 201016 yr It seems to me that this unlimited detail would take up a LOT of hard disk space, even if they managed to funnel it through real time graphics like they claimed. We'd have to go to streaming video type graphics, or run live from a stack of blueray disks.

They can claim anything they want, but until they have some viable software that people can use, no one cares. On their webpage they mention that they're running all of this on a single cored laptop. So I'm sure it didn't quite have the processing power to run its algorithm perfectly. They do claim they'll be able to run this sort of stuff on mobile phones and the like. That I'd agree with you. I can see it in happening in a few decades when those things speed up a bit more though. @KrampellThe language a game was written or based on doesn't effect how the graphics are going to look. The only reason Jagex limits them so much is because they want their game to be accessible to as many people as possible. Having high polygon models, and all those fancy textures take up lots of space. Since runescape is played online, you have to download them every time. Jagex could release a downloadable client for it's players to use, and I believe they're releasing something like this with direct x support. Though I doubt they'll go out of their way to make some very special and very fancy graphics that not every one will be able to use. Since jagex prides itself on being so accessible, I'd really doubt they want to show too much favouritism towards a certain OS. Although maybe wine could run it. Don't know enough about it to say for sure. @ kalafaiI'm sure the gaming companies wouldn't care too much. It'd help discourage pirating due to the large sizes of files, and the cost of burning the disk. Storage is constantly increasing though. Artist could always tone things down a bit, and limit their graphics to the space available for them. High-alching that REALLY expensive item in my inventory looks more and more tempting with every beer I drink.
April 18, 201016 yr They need to write RuneScape in C++ instead. It would run so much better it wouldn't be funny. I hate Java. :( It's written in Runescript, not Java. Not to mention, Java is not hindering them at all with the quality of work they produce. It's being able to roll out every update to play in a browser with such low specs required and doing so with little computer process needed. Runescape could look like any PS3 game, but because it would not play on the majority of computers available Jagex choses not to. No, its not written in RuneScript, it's written in Java. RuneScript is the scripting language they created IN java so that their developers don't need to know java to add content or change content in the game, but its still java doing all the work, they just type it in RuneScript and then it compiles into java. When you hear about 'engine updates' thats updates that are done in java, when you see an update like a new monster or what ever, thats RuneScript which uses the engine to create new content. In the end its still all java, Now, for all we know the server side might actually be C++, we know for a fact the client side is Java (since the applet is java obviously) but they could actually use C++ or any other language for the servers so it can process much faster.
April 18, 201016 yr Probably rendered by an outside tool. As for getting the game's graphics in par with reality, supposedly they could apply ridiculous amounts of eye-pecking effects, but the low poly count is there to stay - the CPU is still doing most of the drawing.I suppose most people noticed that the once-mighty Core 2 Dou processors are now having trouble keeping up with some scenes (outside the Daemonheim castle for example). Until that's changed, a major graphcal breakthrough is unlikely.
April 18, 201016 yr Good trailer. My only beef against it is that the animations look choppy but the graphics are quite nice. I like the water and particle effects. Not sure if anyone noticed, but the fire on the torches in the beginning of the trailer is particle-effects based! Looks very nice, methinks! ;)
