Boys Of Summer - Don Henley, covered by the Ataris (I think?) Don Henley's version is much better, although the Ataris gave it a really cool modern sound. Knockin on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan, coverd by just about every artist ever. Hard to beat the original. The Guns n Roses version is terrible imo. However...check out Warren Zevon's cover. The fact that he was close to death himself and he knew it really gives it a haunting, genuine feel. Heroes - David Bowie, covered by the Wallflowers. I love em both....I love Bowie's better though. :P Wonderwall - Oasis, covered by Ryan Adams. This one has been covered alot as well... but check out Ryan Adams' cover. Very well done, and although the original is a classic I like Adams' version better. Mad World - Tears for Fears, Covered by Gary Jules. Gary Jules took a poetic but awkward song by Tears for Fears and made it his. You may reckognize this from Donnie Darko. Simply fantastic cover by Jules. All along the watchtower - Bob Dylan, covered by Jimi Hendrix. Bet you didnt know Dylan wrote this one....that's because Jimi OWNS this song. Hurt - NIN, covered by Johnny Cash. A toughie... I like Cash's better though. A serious toughie! :P Live & let die - McCartney and the Wings, covered by Guns N Roses. Guns and Roses made this a much better song... good for them after ruining Knockin on Heavens Door. Faith - George Micheal, covered by Limp Bizkit. As much as it pains me to say I like a LB song, they did a hell of a job with this cover. Lots of energy and I just like it better. The Man who Sold the World - David Bowie, covered by Nirvana. I'm too big of a Bowie fan to not go with him on this one. Nirvana did a great job though. ...baby one more time - Britney Spears, covered by Travis. Wouldn't have thought it possible... but Travis made this into a pretty cool tune! :P Be sure to check it out. Feel free to add some of your own. There are a lot out there... I've only scratched the surface!
November 18, 200520 yr Bob Marley and the Wailers - I Shot the Sherrif - Covered by Eric Clapton. I can't really compare All Along the Watchtower, the Hendrix version is instrumentally better I think, but the words have more meaning when Dylan sings it, IMO. Strangely enough Ican't think of much covers at the moment, lol. I think Neil Young did some Dylan covers as well...Dylan's first albums are covers only aswell, I believe..I should've taken notes while seeing the documantary, lol. Oh, and Subteranian Homesick Blues and Subterranean Homesick Alien, first one by Dyland, 2nd one bye Radiohead, not a cover, might be a hommage though. Ted Nugent and Neil Young both did "Ain't it the Truth" I got both songs, but can't listen to them now, don't know if they are covers. :P Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
November 18, 200520 yr Ruddy Heck, Nate, you've practically took all the covers worth mentioning :P I'd say The Beatles took Twist and shout to a new level, originally by the Isley Brothers. Respect. Everyone remembers Aretha Franklin doing it but it is actually a cover. Either the John Buckley or Rufus Wainwright version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah must be mentioned. Mind you, so should John Cale's version! I love Otis Redding's Satisfaction far more than the Rolling Stones' This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

I always thought it was DJ Sammy, well he did a version of it anyway, i thought it was good. Knockin on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan, coverd by just about every artist ever. Hard to beat the original. The Guns n Roses version is terrible imo. I didn't mind the guns n roses version at all, in fact i thought it was very good, not as good as the Dylan original though. There are quite great covers out there, but at the mo i can't think of that many. One of the most memorable ones would have to be Hendrix's version of Sgt. Pepper's, by the Beatles. He did a cover of it a week after it was released, in a concert that the Beatles were watching. That takes guts. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

I'm gonna do a worst covers one if you don't mind. :P Chop Suey-System of a Down Avril lavinge covered it, made it terrible. :( Ricky martin?-She bang William Hung covered it, both sounded pretty terrible. That's all I can think of at the moment. :P

I have no respect for people who simply cover a song without bringing no new style to it. They don't get paid to do karaoke. I have slightly more (but still little) repect for people who cover songs and change something. They can still be good, but why do they have to use other peoples ideas to sell their records? There are a few good covers, Hero by the Wallflowers was alright, but most of them are highly forgetful.

Breakfast at Tiffany's - The Wallflowers I'm not a huge fan of this song eather but it's better than the original. November 19, 200520 yr I believe Orgy's cover of New Order's Blue Monday outshined the original. It squeezed so much rawness and compressed a seven minute into a mere three minutes without taking anything away from it. Professional Murder Music's cover of Radiohead's High and Dry is amazing. Marilyn Manson's version of the Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams is chilling and, although I've heard it lots, still keeps its sinister feel. Nine Inch Nails' cover of Joy Division's Dead Souls is only slightly better, mainly because of the guitars and the cool drum intro. Failure covered Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence beautifully. Faith No More covered Black Sabbath's War Pigs quite well. Deftones covered Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man beautifully. That song is amazing. And if you're talking worst covers ... Avril Lavigne's cover of Chop Suey makes me nautious. AFI's cover of Nine Inch Nails' Head Like A Hole is purely awful, and most of all, Fall Out Boy's cover of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart is an atrocity and a tragedy.
November 19, 200520 yr Well I'm gonna mention a sample, because i can't think of any covers that you guys haven't already mentioned. :lol: First of, Fat Boy Slim - Praise You. The hook is sampled from a song about Black Power, influenced by Malcom X I think. Well yeah, no one knew that song really, but then he took it and put it into a dance classic. Also, Kanye West - Late Registration contains alot of Samples, there are less songs that don't contain them, than that do.

It completely failed to capture the mood and atmosphere of the actual song. It's like they weren't even paying attention to the lyrics they were singing...It was a complete mockery IMO.
