Apparently it's the sauces they put on most subs that are loaded with calories.

Hence why I put a "drizzle" literally of ranch, idk, the sub tastes good on its own.

Our cafeteria serves the following:

-Chicken nuggets with fries

-Croissant sandwiches (with a serving of fruit and a bag of chips)

-Plate dinner (usually something like Salisbury steak with a serving of mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and a yeast roll)

-Hamburger/hot dog/chicken sandwich/quesadilla rolls/pizza (random one of these each day)

Drinks (which come with meals for a price of $2.25):

-Tea

-Tap water

-Fruit juice (pineapple/cranberry/grape)

-Slushee (served in a Styrofoam cup)

Drinks that cost extra:

-Bottled apple juice (and other types of fruit juice)

-Bottled water

Snacks:

-Package of cookies

-Poptarts

-Chips

-Fruit

-Fruit Rollups

-Ice cream bars/sandwiches

We can also add chili or cheese (or a combination thereof) to our fries for 25 cents extra.

Anyway, it depends on what we get. Personally, I just go with a croissant sandwich for my lunch (with a slushee or bottle of water). It seems like the most healthy option since it's just a small croissant sandwich with ham and cheese. I think they put it together themselves. The slushees aren't that healthy (considering that they are just flavored syrup mixed with ice), though.

I'm sorry - $2.25 for tapwater?

...It's included in the price. You can get a drink or a slushee with your meal except for the bottled drinks, which cost like 50 cents extra.

Oh, ok, I thought the drinks were an additional $2.25

If they were, people would just tell the school to shove off and bring their own food, whether the school liked it or not...

By the way, at my last school we were once served a chicken breast (which was the entire meal) that was still a little raw. That school was sued a lot, though.

Everyone needs to celebrate Kick a Fatty Day which sadly has already passed.... its a "You're fat" awareness day and motivates kids to lose weight so they don't get kicked next year.(Everything you have just read is an excuse to kick fat people)

But seriously, I hate fat people because its their fault they are fat and they can change it. And before you start crying about genetics, if you work hard enough you can change it.

Next year I'll post when Kick a Fatty Day is coming up....

Because, you know, bringing a bagged lunch full of fruits and vegetables is out of the question. Gotta live off of fries.

My school actually doesn't want us to bring "outside food" into the school.

Are you in a private school?

I attend a public high school.

I'm pretty sure they can't force you to buy lunch there. What if you couldn't afford school lunch every day? And the "don't eat" excuse definitely isn't a viable option for your school.

Well, that's exactly what they do. We can't bring bagged lunches or food from fast food restaurants. They don't want to compete with anyone, so they simply ban "outside" food.

That sounds pretty illegal. I'd definitely bring my lunch from home anyway, and if they tell you not to, say you don't want to be obese, even if they do.

Look at it this way, if it was a private institution you chose to go to, they can make up whatever silly rules they want. But when you're being forced to go to a public school by law, they can't also force you to not eat your own food.

While I'm in no way the skinniest person in my class, I honestly wish my school had P.E. all of the time. I really enjoy it. Playing games all of the time, running around, having fun. Granted, when we go to the weight room, I don't really do much, but neither does most of the class. Unfortunately, our school only has P.E. for one quarter (9 weeks). So really if someone were to get really fit from it, chances are they would just go back to the way they were by the time they had P.E. again.

And on the topic of Subway... I usually get Honey Oat, turkey breast and ham, pickles, lettuce, black olives (yum) and a little bit of mayo. Very delicious.

At my school, being in marching band gives you gym credits. After you get the required 1.5 credits it starts counting towards electives. It's also a fine arts credit too.

God I love band.

Here we have it so that you only have to take one year of PE if you've taken 5 semesters worth of sports. As a result we have a huge Badminton team.

The army'll take 'em. The army'll take anyone. But there's a lot more running and dying.

Not anymore. The Army's "Full", so they reject a lot now.

And if they joined the Marines, they'd get their [wagon] kicked into shape...

This is true.

Air Force gets to be as picky as they want.

The Air Force doesn't do anything besides PT anyways, they just hang out, do some PT, and that's about it. Other than watch us do all the work.

The Navy doesn't even give a [bleep]. They're just happy someone wants to be their friend.

What else are you going to do on a boat for long periods of time? Even someone overweight would get bored and just start exercising.

But nobody cares about the Coast Guard or National Guard ...

While nobody cares about the Coast Guard (as most people don't even know their in the military), I'd watch that statement about the National Guard. We're the ones that help out crisis' here in the United States. If there's a severe disaster, we're the ones that get mobilized to help out. We're also largely wanted overseas as we're not (for the most part) arrogant [cabbages]. We have civilian lives, so we bring over more experience than just Army, and we bring over more wisdom. So while you may not care about the National Guard (or any branch by the looks of it), most people actually do.

I've started being far healthier. Don't drink soda, don't eat nasty-[wagon] food. The only time it's tough is at lunch, because I cook everything at home. I just need to think of some things I can bring to school to eat. Next year I can come home and eat good food, but now I have to be particularly selective of the gross food around my school. And the school itself is probably the worst of all. Blargh.

And you guys should remember, being underweight is just as bad and carries just as many risks as being overweight. It's not very attractive, either.

I can't agree more about underweight. That's just downright sick. I'd rather be overweight than underweight.

It's called exercise. The army will train you anyway, i'm sure if the army needs recruits they will also get you into shape, let kids enjoy being kids.

There's actually quite a few overweight people in the army who just barely pass the standards. So don't rely on "Army Training" to kick you into shape, you have to do a lot of it on your own.

When I was in high school, we had to take one semester of Gym, and that was it. We weren't even allowed to do more than that. In middle school, it was every other day.

Well, people should eat a little less, a little more healthier and next to that get some more exercise...Since they obviously can't do it for themselves 'the government' should look over this. But the whole army excuse sounds pretty wrong.

Why don't people bring their own bread to school, by the way. When I went to school I always had a lunch box with four or six slices of bread. One with cheese, one with chicken-ham and one with peanut butter, next to that an apple or a banana and as a snack I had a muesli bar. We also brought our own drinks. You could also buy things of course. Things like a cup of soup, a mars, a cheese sandwich, or a can of coke. But most people just brought their own stuff. Is this a European thing or something?

Many people are too poor to afford to bring their own lunch. In many cases, school lunch is the last meal students eat a day. I have had several friends who were supplied lunch money by the United States Military because their parent/s couldn't afford it otherwise.

Not everything is as cut and dry as bringing heathy food.

^^Probably. Random question:is is true most Europeans prefer their drinks lukewarm? BLECH.

Part of it is is school lunches are simply easier, and cheaper.

Huh? Things are very different here, haha. For the price of three lunches at school you can bring your own lunch for two weeks or something, haha.

I don't know if the European likes his/her drinks lukewarm. I prefer them cold, but lukewarm is fine as well.

In the U.S., school lunch is grossly overpriced (except in non-profit cases, which exist in many places-especially military bases). However, to the children and teenagers on the low-budget program, the Army covers the entire price of school lunch.

Why would the army pay for your lunch? What do they have to do with a random American teenager that's not involved with the army. I don't get it. I feel stupid, haha. <_<
