noble_aloof
Well, i for one think the game is sick, however i don't support rockstar basically reskinning GTA and then selling it full price. Sure there are many elements that make the game more like an rpg than gta, but the CONSTANT crime and gunfights that come with every mission gets to be too much, imo. the challenges, fame meter, honor meter, outfits, and stats help put this game into a class of its own. but i feel like i need to point out obvious defects with the game since people are already deeming it the best game of the year. first, the graphics are bad for modern day and the frame rate blows. random encounters are interesting but half the time i have no idea who i'm supposed to be killing and who i'm supposed to be saving. the spawn points in online play are horrible. the skinning takes way too long. why would i pay $750 for a horse if it is just going to get shot on my way out of town? the way my character engages people gets old very quickly. i don't see why this game is being hailed as game of the year when oblivion had more dynamic NPCs two years ago. why do i lose any unsaved progress when i die? half the time i don't even anticipate dieing. another problem- its only one player local.. rockstar couldn't even upgrade that from GTA, thats how lazy they are. i didn't mean to run over that nun, why did i lose 400 honor? i just finished mexico and i have $6000, where are the endgame weapons and st0ffz? its a great game but i feel cheated, i say we start a petition to force Rockstar to label the case 'CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN ELEMENTS/GAME ENGINE/GRAPHICS OF GTA4' Staking: 4+ mil Current Status: Training defense

Harakiri
I bought it a couple days after release because I can't look away from a western-based video game because they are few and far between. For me Red Dead Revolver sucked and the only real good western game was GUN. Then I played this and I literally cannot quit playing it. It has so much stuff to do, such a fun story, and it's online is tons of fun. The world is varied and the random events keep the long rides halfway across the map a bit fresher. I personally find it to be a very, very, very good game. The occasional glitch does occur and the bounties are just too strict (I was doing a mission where you needed to take a safe in a wagon back to Armadillo, accidentally ran over a dog on my way to the end of the mission, and got a five dollar bounty that prompted every body to want to kill me. What the heck?). I am very happy with this and I think this is the best open world game since Saints Row 2. first, the graphics are bad for modern day and the frame rate blows.I concur. The graphics aren't the best ever, but I'm apparently one of the few people in this world that believes that graphics don't make a game. The character animations, horse animations, and pretty much the animations of everything are so much more improved from those of GTA4. The frame rate is great for me. There have never been slow downs or anything of the like. random encounters are interesting but half the time i have no idea who i'm supposed to be killing and who i'm supposed to be saving.I agree that random encounters are hard to understand, I have killed the policeman who is being attacked accidentally but I'm getting used to the different events and can understand how that works. the spawn points in online play are horrible.Only problem I have had with spawn points are how they are not dynamic I.E I continually have a guy sniping me as I respawn. the skinning takes way too long.Either a skinning cutscene starts or it skips the cutscene and you obtain the items. If the cutscene takes place, it is about fifteen seconds long. That is not way too long to me. why would i pay $750 for a horse if it is just going to get shot on my way out of town?Hitch it, and you own it. Every time it dies, you kill yourself, and tah-dah, it's back. the way my character engages people gets old very quickly.I find John Marston to be a stereotypical cowboy character, but I enjoy the character interactions because all the characters are different and Marston views them in different lights, not just as partners, but as outlaws, cheaters, etc. n oblivion had more dynamic NPCs two years ago.Oblivion was an RPG and those tend to have a lot more focus on NPC's. Because that is a major part of being able to build your own character and pretend like you are said character and this is the real world, you need to have a lot more interaction and a lot more choices with those interactions and how they interact. Same can be said with Fallout 3, Dragon Age, or any other RPG. They tend to fail when you are set on a specific path and made to follow it and continually watch cutscene after cutscene (FFXIII), that dynamicness is there to make it much more realistic. A game like this doesn't need dynamic NPC's because the story is set in stone and you have no way to mess with it. While it may be called an Open World Sandbox game, you are still having to complete missions as the developer intended, stray from their path and the mission fails. Thus, this point is not all that correct. If it were an RPG, I could see your complaint, but since this is a third person shooter at heart, the idea fails. its a great game but i feel cheated, i say we start a petition to force Rockstar to label the case 'CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN ELEMENTS/GAME ENGINE/GRAPHICS OF GTA4' Oh dear god. Why don't we also say that every game that runs on the Unreal Engine should have a label that says: Warning: May contain elements of Unreal Tournament III?Why work with something new when the original formula worked? The gameplay is the same yes. The engine and graphics are the same thing, and while they may be the same, who cares? And who the hell needs the label when anyone who bought the game new they were buying Grand Theft Auto in the west? Why complain because it is reminiscent of a game that worked? Super Mario Galaxy 2 cheated me because they used the same graphics, elements, and engine as Super Mario Galaxy? And before you question me, I am playing on the PS3, and so if you are playing Xbox I cannot say anything about framerate and such. This game is way better than GTA4 in every aspect and it accomplishes everything in a smooth, and exciting way. Missions are fun, side missions are fun, and the world is much more dynamic and the world in itself is a character. This game should be one of the games hailed as game of the year so far. It's the best game I have played all year, and I tend to play every major release and well-received game that comes out. I could go on and on about how all the major titles of this year sucked and this one provided what it said it would while other titles didn't, but I won't. I suggest that anyone who can't decide whether to play this game just rent it and see. Because for a fan of western movies and such, I love this. But some of my friends haven't enjoyed it quite as much because they aren't huge into westerns and such.

Demoli
I vote the lasso as best game weapon ever :P I say fireflower and gravity gun both have that title secured ;) Also, i played a lot of this game. Great fun i must say, hope there is a PC version soon. As for the peopla saying this is so far the best game of the year... Well, it's not my pick, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is probably my choice for GOTY so far, but ME2 and MH3 are also ahead of RDR. Nevertheless, awesome game, this has just been an increadibly awesome year so far
Dizzle229
I'm assuming this is a sequel to Red Dead Revolver? I remember playing that years ago. I never really liked it, though it was mostly due to the fact that I sucked at it. And while I can't judge this game yet, you know what I do want to know? What the hell happened to GUN 2? Get back here so I can rub your butt.

Zibl
WARNING: Huge spoilers. Proceed at your own risk. [hide]I really enjoyed this game. It's feel, it's look, and most definitely it's story line. I just finished the game last night (81% complete when I finished) and the ending was epic in my opinion. John goes through all that crap, finally gets his family back, and dies anyways. I don't normally care very much about what does or doesn't happen, story wise, in a video game... but the ending to RDR actually had me kind of upset  . I thought it sucked how he FINALLY got his family back, and then ended up getting screwed over anyways. The scene where he tells Jack & his wife to get out of the barn and "not to stop" is amazing. He knows that he's seeing the family he worked so hard for, for the last time. Not to mention the grave scene(s) were pretty sad, especially with that song. Killing Ross didn't really make me feel any better, but for some weird reason actually DID bring me some type of closure. Lol. Which I never say about a video game. Playing as Jack isn't terrible... he's obviously no John Marston, but he doesn't bother me too much. The only 2 things that get on my nerves are his TERRIBLE "grown up" voice, and those stupid little 1 liners he spits out every once in a while (i.e. "Thats how ya taught me pa!"). Overall I think it's the best story line of a Rock Star game that I've ever played. It was also a breath of fresh air to get a very different time & location setting. I'm used to the Grand Theft Auto type of eras (70s, 80s, 90s, etc.) but I thoroughly enjoyed the early 1900s "Old West" setting that RDR offered.[/hide] Just my opinion on the ending, and the game itself. Def one of the best games I've played in a loooong time (non-FPS that is). Def one of the best games I've played in a loooong time (non-FPS that is). Finished it tonight and I concur. I actually expected the game to end after Dutch died. Then with the music heading back to the family I expected it to end there. Then I expected it to die with Marston getting killed. It had so many opportunities to end but it did not feel one bit like they were milking it, the final ending was just great. Also very unexpected. I think the music really worked at the end area of the game and was one of the few games I actually felt for the character after all he had gone through. I still have to complete the master hunter missions (taking me ages to find 5 foxes skunks and raccoons) and doing the stranger mission for the aeroplane as I cannot find beavers at all. I have two beaver skins/furs but i cannot find any more anywhere. Want to be my friend? mcneilp
This is one of the few games i've paid really close attention to the story line and i've loved every minute of it. I've now done the main story line and i'm working on the hunting challenges and completing the acheivements for the 360. Also, cougars can go to hell. I don't mind the first one which yells before it attacks you but the stealthy one that comes after sometimes annoys the hell out of me. So many times I've been killing a bear only to get side swiped by another one, then when standing up a third one appears. I did realise that they very often travel in 3's. I did have a situation at one point when i got between two groups of bears which all came for me. They took down my horse and just swarmed me, I only managed to escape by using deadeye to headshot them. Want to be my friend?
