That's true. My guitar teacher and I were discussing it - pop is basically nursery rhymes with layers of whatever genre people like at that time. With Green Day, it's incredibly accessible, it's simple and it's easy to listen to - probaby because the lyrics and music lack any complication. It's pretty hollow music, and the fact that people can play it easier, has the potential to make the music even more accessible and likeable.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Having said that, although I personally think the music is rather crap, their simple riffs and solos (if you can dignify them with that title ... September Ends is a 4-note solo with the exact same pattern; no bends, no noteworthy licks, no hammer-ons or speed that make solos good), means it is, to an extent, a good way to start. But once you get good, steer clear of them.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to understand. Green Day is basic compared to others. Some of their songs are simple enough to start with. I just don't get how Sunwarrior (sp?) would jump in this thread and type up how Green Day sucks and should just steer away from it wihout any explanation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Only problem I have is that when people jump around threads parading something sucks without even telling why or how. They're just as bad as the people who jumped on the Green Day bandwagon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I want to laugh at how people say Green Day sucks now because they went commercial. They've been mainstream for over a decade now when they released their album Dookie (sp? don't remember exactly :|). For God's sake, at least think up of a fact to make fun of them with.

This forum is starting to get on my nerves already, every single discussion just turns into groups of people saying "so and so sucks", because they're so ignorant they can't accept the fact that other people like different things to them.

 

 

 

Last time i checked this topic was about helping a beginner play guitar, save your rolleyes for a topic titled "i want to be more of an annoying git, please help".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Aside from all that, people are still missing the point about greenday. I suggested them for the very reason you seem to think they "suck" - because their songs are BASIC, because they're EASY TO LEARN. I could start reeling off songs by bands that play technical music, but what's the point?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oh, and for the record, i don't even like Green day. I own none of their records, but i think for what they are they're a good band. That's called being open minded, when you don't necessarily like something, but you realise that it's still good.

Oooh A new guitar learner. I started guitar about 2 months ago.. I don't play it overly alot, but I do love to jam out to some Drum Machine beats I make up. I'm gonna get a nice Fender Dyna-Touch and Ibanez GRX20 guitar soon and start playing as well. I know many people that go out to Target and buy Washburns, and they give up playing. That aside, the necks are very thick, the action is TOO low, so low that the low E string vibrates against the neck when you strum it, and the amp has no effect, and changing the gain does absolutely nothing.

 

 

 

But hopefully once I get my stuff I'll be as good as you are. I've always liked to have learned to play guitar, becuase I have a very musical ear and I dissect my music when I listen to it, but I've never had the money because i'm always buying other crap (mostly computer stuff).

Oh, and for the win: Music is not about how complex it is, it's about if it is aurally pleasing and gets stuck in your head. Green Day's old songs do just that. Their new ones do not. Green Day have become inflated, politically-rebellious (for the sake of publicity) morons, and the album American Idiot sucks. Dookie is a good album, although people at the time said that was a sell out too :roll: , but at least it has some good music.

 

 

 

And Purple Crayon, if you want to take an idiotic attitude, then two can play at that game:

You can either adjust the bridge or the truss rod (the latter as a last resort, because you can screw up your neck) to fix that. Of course, then the action is a bit higher, but I would sacrifice action for the sake of better tone any day.
