This isn't a necessary rant, or a constructive one. It won't improve your game experience at all. It will just get you mad at Jagex - or at me!

 

So for a long time now I've known you can't say the word 'Hitler' in-game, it gets censured like it's a curse word. Now that's polemical, to ban someone's name, but understandable. I mean in Germany the Nazi symbol - a Swastika cross - is banned, it's even forbidden to tattoo it, I think. So I kind of understand why it was banned from RS. Then I tried saying 'Nazi' and it was also banned, I guess for the same reasons: avoid arguments and keep the RS world free from the memories of a horrific time which many of us can't even imagine.

 

But today I tried saying Stalin, and guess what - no censure! I then tried saying 'Communist' and it came out as well! Now you may be sitting there, reading this rant and thinking "Yeah so? Hitler was like way worse *sips starbucks coffee*" and that's why I'm giving you a 3 or 4 line-history lesson:

 

The Nazis are only more ill-famed because they struggled to their last breath fighting the invading Allies. They are considered monsters not because they killed a lot of people, but because they killed a lot of Jewish people (among other etnies or races). They focused on a certain group, and commited a very controlled genocide. It wasn't an anarchy, it was a burocratic murder. In total, around 8 million ethnic killings.

 

The Soviets however, were just as bad, maybe worse, than the Nazis. They killed randomly. I'm not saying Nazis didn't shoot people without a reason, but not as freely as the Soviets did - or at least so I believe. The soldiers were often drunk while raping women in front of their dead husbands' corpse, they burned children alive. People were starving and freezing because the Soviet Union charged almost all the cereal the farmers could gather. Aprox. 61 million people were murdered by the Soviet Union, Stalin alone is responsible for 43 million.

 

Please, if you ban Hitler, which you should, ban Stalin as well.

 

 

 

This lead to 16 pages of people ranting, insulting, agreeing, more insulting... anything you can imagine. And yes, eventually the argument started to get political. This one guy wouldn't get off my back because when I said that, even though both Nazi and Soviet murders were atrocious, the Nazis envolved more paperwork and were less anarchic, he understood that I, well, was absolutely ignorant on the subject and a complete moron. About 3 mods went there, they were pretty vague, and their logic Failed always. They said we could always report people who used the word 'Stalin' in an offensive way - but that wasn't the point. I just wanted for both words to be under the same regime, either all censored, or all free.

 

This leads to a point where I can't even say stuff like 'Nazi scientists were the first ones to discover that tobacco causes lung cancer', which is not only true, but also positive.

 

Please understand: I absolutely hate skinheads and nazis, and all I really wanted was for an equality on censorship.

 

Also, if you spot any Historical flaws, let me know. I make mistakes like any other person.

I did a paper on the topic of The Holocaust for school, and the total number killed was actually about 25 million, although Stalin did kill many more.

 

The only reason people think the Holocaust was worse is because the Russians didn't [bleep] about their massacre as much as the Jews [bleep]ed about theirs.

Well apparently 8 million were the number of ethnic killings, there must have been many more, especially if you consider that every german soldier was a killing BY the germans. But that doesn't matter really, that's what got my thread closed!

Skull you're right, I should have done that. I tried clicking on the profile of the JMod that closed my thread, but there seemed to be no way of contacting him to tell him why I disagreed. So I came here and posted this, and so far people seem to understand my point of view. Now why exactly should this thread be closed? It's RS-related, it's not offensive - in fact it's against something at least I consider offensive, it's backed-up by Historical facts...

There's no reason Hitler should be discussed at all on the RSOF, in Runescape, or on any video game forum. The community is full of asshats enough without people constantly going "Lol Hitlur was rite" trying to gin up an argument. If you're going to discuss Hitler, do it where it belongs: With a group of psuedo intellectuals who will eventually invoke Godwin's law several times in a single conversation.

While it is true that Stalin did awful things, his name is not as commonly used as an insult. So, there is no real need for it to be censored.

 

As for your remark about communism - it's a political stance, and while the Russians used it for evil purposes, there are still "neo-communist" countries such as China who are not using the communism model for such evil purposes. Hence it shoud not be banned.

It's all the jews fault. They blow the holocaust out of proportion so that people will sympathize with them and let them take over everything. Ask the average schmuck about the Nanking Massacre or Stalin and they'll know one or two things at best, nothing in most cases. Check who is the big bad in all WWII movies. Look in the schoolbooks. Has anyone seen that "King of the Hill" episode where a hippy or something calls anything he doesn't like a nazi? "You're a nazi, man" etc. And then he meets Hank's dad who was a WWII vet and gets his ass kicked? I love that one. I kinda feel like the censor is there for reducio ad hitlerum attacks more than anything else. When it becomes common for teenagers to call each other Stalin-esque I'll support a change.
