Is Arcane Stream worth it?

Featured Replies

I just got 70 Dungeoneering and have enough tokens for an Arcane Stream, but I was wondering, is it worth it?

The only thing I do at the moment that I would use it for would be to mage Rex, but in the future I will be looking to burst for higher mage levels and also for a yak. In that time though I would probably be able to get a rapier or cls before I'm ready to burst, so should I get it now or save for rapier/cls and then get tome of frost and arcane stream later?

well if you are planning on getting both then order doesn't matter

True but I'm not sure if I'll be very good at letting tokens just sit there.

But how much better than a glory would the arcane stream be for maging Rex?

Arcane Stream, is just best for all maging, 15% damage increase is actually quite a lot. I'd say get it, its always handy.

My lame drops:
6 Effigys
1 D Med - 1 D Dagger
1 Verac's Helmet - 1 Guthan's Platebody

If you're ever going to mage. Get the necklace.

Don't bother with the tome of frost, as the money/runes saved from it isn't really worth the ammount of tokens it costs.

Does the Arcane Stream damage boost stack with god spells though?

Because if you use charge the max is 300, does it go over that when you have a stream?

Equipment magic damage bonus works just like a strength bonus, so yes, it always stacks with anything.

It's only 300k experience for one, too. It's absolutely worth getting (unless you're never, ever going to use combat magic).

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

It's only a few larges for 43k tokens...

If you're ever ice bursting, get the tome of frost IN ADDITION to your arcane stream + sol.

EDIT: Ohwait, sol is 2-handed. But it's still worth getting.

when bursting, doesn't the damage increase apply only to your primary target? so if you're going to get the necklace for the purpose of busring, you might want to find that out first

I read that somewhere, that's half the motivation for the question.

This is true; arcane stream only affects one lobster. You're much better off using a fury or stole when bursting.

The arcane stream necklace does wonders for barrows. I just recommend getting SoL, Arc Stream, AND the Tome of Frost, because they just work together so nicely.

Also, the arcane stream necklace has a +14 magic boost, whereas a Fury only has +10, so if you're planning to protect from damage or safespot, it's probably the better choice there. Specialised amulets, such as the Ranger and Strength amulet, are usually better than generic amulets like Furies in their field.

Its at least 6 larges, at 75k xp/each, so at higher DG. Thats at least 5 hours. Thats anywhere from 5-25m worth of time. Water runes don't cost that much. AS saves you money in runes (Fewer casts/kill @ dks) and more kills/hr, thus more kills/trip, not to mention the "beating off crashers" bit. Even if you only mage occasionally, get it. Eventually, you'll probably want 85, enough tokens there to get Scroll of life, AS, and a chaotic.

BTW, to the above^ Fury is almost always better then ranging ammy/Strength. I can't really think of a situation, outside safespot ranging, or maxing in cwars, where they are better then fury. (Outside, for strength, PvP)

However a very nice use of the tome of frost would be for busting lobs since it saves an invent spot and there aren't many better maging shields out there.

a place where the chance to die is not neglectable?

(IE: old runecrafting, dieing to pkers was just something you could factor in at about 1 death every 8 hours)

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

glory > strength still in a dangerous place

mainly referring to the ranging amulet (though one might consider glory be better?).. Take armadyl boss for example: if I would solo him I wouldn't dare to take fury.. ranging amulet I might. (though I prefer glory always simply for its versability/teleport option).
