October 22, 201015 yr From the image itself:Size of map represents volume of daily social activity (posts, chat, etc). Based on data gathered over spring and summer of 2010. I'm actually a bit surprised that Maplestory is nearly as large as Runescape. We are also much larger than Starcraft, yet not as big as Warcraft. Link to image on xkcdOriginal Image
October 22, 201015 yr Yeah I didn't really get the (farmland) thing. Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP
October 22, 201015 yr And this is accurate?I seriously doubt it.It looks more like social commentary in commical map form. Exclusive Legacy Mode Player He just successfully trolled you with "courtesy" and managed to get a reaction out of you. Lol
October 22, 201015 yr And this is accurate?I seriously doubt it.It looks more like social commentary in commical map form. No, it's a lot of guesswork. It says so on the map.
October 22, 201015 yr Yeah I saw that when he posted it on XKCD. I thought it was pretty funny, playing hunt for random communities on the internet to see if they were on the map.
October 22, 201015 yr Don't understand farmland. interesting anyway. October 22, 201015 yr Farmland = primitive / agricultural / undeveloped. Basically reflects what the PC community thinks of the game. As always, the Runescape community is oblivious as to how they are perceived, mostly because the Runescape community only plays Runescape when they aren't playing crappy console games. I'm actually a bit surprised that Maplestory is nearly as large as Runescape. We are also much larger than Starcraft, yet not as big as Warcraft. It's not reflecting actual size. While Runescape actually has a very large population - as Golvellius said, it's "social commentary in comical map form." -------------------------------------------------------------------
October 22, 201015 yr Yes, the outside world may think of Runescape as "farmland," but when that farmland is self-sustaining, the inhabitants don't give a care about it. I would say we aren't "farmland," necessarily as much as we are a rising power. I was wondering where we were hidden on that map. I saw it when it was released, but couldn't find the larger version of it to get the details. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
October 22, 201015 yr I would say we aren't "farmland," necessarily as much as we are a rising power. Runescape isn't an underdog. RS is already the second most popular MMO after World of Warcraft. This is all about perception, not statistical data. -------------------------------------------------------------------

This is all about perception, not statistical data. Wow really? I mean, I knew it was the most popular free MMO, but it's really that high up in general as well? That actually surprises me  Fisher/Woodcut------Me-----Miner/crafter----Stabber----Leecher ^Golvellius must be so proud^

October 23, 201015 yr Runescape was also on the first version of the online communities map: http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/online_communities.png Not really that fascinating IMO. I'm also sure Runescape's been briefly mentioned in another comic or two.
October 23, 201015 yr The only reason why it gets such notice is because XKCD is such a 'famous' webcomic. EDIT: *looks at signature and avatar* Ahh hell...

October 23, 201015 yr my guess is that it's a reference to the crappiness of farmville, farmtown, and happy farm L
October 23, 201015 yr Also why isnt the river grind running through RS? Agreed. my guess is that it's a reference to the crappiness of farmville, farmtown, and happy farm L Uhh no. Those games have their own section on the map. -------------------------------------------------------------------
October 23, 201015 yr Eh even if the River Grind isn't running through the land of Runescape itself, I suppose the Runescape farmland is still being irrigated by it.
