Bone Choice

  1. 1. Which should I choose

    • Sell all my current Dragon Bones and buy Frost Dragon Bones
    • Sell my Frost Dragon Bones and buy Dragon Bones

Recommended Posts

So... I've been attempting to make my account a better boss hunter for the past little while now and I have reached a decision. I sold some of my holdings a while back and purchased roughly 15K dragon bones and decided to finally get around to dungeoneering.

While I'm dungeoneering for a chaotic (I already know I want a longsword so please don't attempt to tell me how much it sucks, or what I should choose etc) I'm pretty much only accumulating my wealth from Kingdom Management. With that I've been putting all the profits towards bones, frost dragon to be specific, in order to get 92 prayer. I've already been gilded altaring to this point and I realized something. Altaring my 15K dragon bones will take for-freaking-ever.

So I really boiled it down to two decisions:

1) I keep my holdings as is and altar for like 2 weeks after I'm done and save my money

2) I sell my regular Dragon Bones and replace them with Frost Dragon Bones, attempting to make up the difference with Kingdom Management and a little whip hunting afterwards.

If you vote, please tell me why you voted that way!

You need to calculate the time you would save by using frost dragon bones vs. dragon bones and the extra money it would cost you. Reduce it down to a gp/hr formula and decide if you value your time at more or less than that rate.

You would have to value your time at 3.5m/hr or so to train with frost dragon bones. I can show you the calculations if you'd like.

Please do

Either post em here or send me a PM with 'em... I'm pretty curious to see how that works out

RS Wiki has a calculator that does the efficiency calculations for you:

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Efficiency#Finding_a_value_of_time_at_which_two_methods_are_equally_efficient

Just plug in xp/hr and either gp/hr or gp/xp.

Use the above link. Roughly however(I did these calculations a month or two previously, also, they were based around what I could do)

Do Baby Dragon Bones if you cannot make more than 1m/h.

Do Dragon Bones if you make between 1-2.5m/h. (This would be pretty much Frost Dragon slaying with War Tort)

Do Frost Dragon Bones if you are killing Frost Dragons with a Pak Yak, or doing TDs, Corp, GWD EFFICIENTLY.

Dungeoneering isn't a skill.

Oh-kay guys, hold on. First off, I can do raw gp/xp per hour calculations... thats rather simple. Factoring in like 2-3 weeks of kingdom income has thrown in a bit of a complication. I'm thinking it can make up for the lost xp... no?

Let's assume 1.5k bones/hr with gilded altar/pack yak/ring of duelings, also ignoring other costs

Dbones=4892gp, 252 xp

Fdbones=15600gp, 640 xp

Cost per hour of frost dragon bones = 23.4m

XP/hr: 960k

Cost per hour of dragon bones = 7.338m

XP/hr: 378k

Using the RSwiki formula: P1X2-P2X1/(X2-X1), the figure is around 3.1m, so I was slightly off.

1.5k bones is a lot. More like 1300.

For the effort used in altering bones, I would just go with dragon bones. 15k bones over a few days isn't much. You do around 1300 an hour and it is very few clicks since you can take from bob without re-offering. Just have your rs window side by side with forums or whatever you like doing, since you'll have 30-1min of time effectively doing nothing while your char altars bnes. That way when you need a break from dungeoneering, you summon a tort/yak do some bones, then go back to it. Breaks the monotony of both skills. If there was lots of repetitive clicking involved I'd be more inclined to go the more expensive, faster route.

There's no simple way to work Miscellania into the math. I'd just fudge the income a bit to compensate.

On an off-note, why are you only going for 92 if you want to be a better boss hunter? I assume you're gonna be meleeing since you're getting a CLS (As opposed to a Ccbow), and without Turmoil the Ancient Prayerbook is pretty useless even with SS. Just stick with the old book and piety until you can afford 95. I'd also recommend D Bones when you do get around to training though.

The current goal is 92 since I don't have any more spending money. That said, in the end I'll be certainly going towards turmoil and perhaps even a 99

92 prayer is absolutely useless if you want to be a better MH'er, leveling herblore will be MUCH more beneficial(well, actually, infinitely, as piety>SS+leeches).

First to 99 Farming on 27. September, 2005.

First to 3766 Port Score on 20. March, 2014.

First to 4664 Port Score on 2. March, 2015.

Overload + brews is also more useful than ss on the actual boss (unless you can ss flash very, very well) but for the minions maybe ss is better. Without turmoil though, it is as xpx said, a clear-cut case.
