Why can't F2P have...?

Featured Replies

Awwwe give the f2pers a taste!

If I would be f2p I would hate to be able to level up my skills to 5, seems like you are giving someone a present and after a few minutes take that present away.

Thats the fun part in it essiw :P

If they were going to do that, something like Fletching would seem most logical. While we can smith our own melee weapons and (mostly) craft our own runes, we have no way of making our own arrows! However, making a whole skill F2P seems somewhat unlikely. It could be a consolation prize when (if) they eventually put out another skill though, I suppose.

Honestly I think it'd be good to make fletching accessible to free players. If there were any skill that would make sense I think this one would because of the reasons you stated and because it can be trained anywhere unlike skills like agillity which require you to be in certain members-only areas.

What does f2p have... a Magic bow that deals 250 damage, with bronze arrows?  That makes Ranged pretty much a p2p exclusive skill.

Why with bronze arrows? You know that f2p can buy and use higher arrows than bronze right?

Oh wow... thats amazing, lol. Still the magic shortbow is still kind of puny compared to what p2p has. I havent been f2p in a long time, sorry.

Well I remember a time where I think willow? was the highest bow usable in f2p, then it got upgraded to yew and now they can use magic, so it has already changed a few times :P Also according to the runecape wikia f2p can use Gravite shortbows (through dungeoneering tokens), which seems to be better than a magic shortbow :)

Yeah, although Gravite shortbows are not for the faint of heart XD.

Maple was the highest they could use for the longest time, with Adamant arrows.

Then EoC came out and they got access to Magic bows... except they left Yew bows as P2P-only, until they finally made them F2P a couple months ago.

Oh you are right, it wasn't yew but maple. But I remember being f2p and not being able to use mithril arrows ;)

Well, RS Wiki states "Mithril arrows were originally members-only items. This has since been changed by Jagex when they believed that the free to play rangers were not as strong as the two other combat classes" and they seem to be F2P as of mid-2008, so that must have been a long time ago :o.

Strange, than my memory has been wrong, as I became a player when slayer was released (I remember noticing an extra icon), slayer got released in january 2005. Just checked for sure, on my old account I need to wait 6 more days for the 10 year cape O.O But it could be I was busy with a pure account (in f2p) back then next to my main.

Edit: Just noticed that my forum account is from 2005 as well, I didn't need to check on my old account lol.

Pray pots, dagon items, special powers for rune items.

There isn't much to do in f2p but break even in the wilderness. Nuff said.

F2P is more like a chillzone... P2P people come to F2P and hangout around to show off their cosmetics.

I personally say why F2P don't have bosses (dung bosses don't count).

Without armor higher than tier 50, anti-fires, higher level prayers/curses, better abilities that are members-only or locked behind quests that delve well into the membership part of the game, Summoning, or food that isn't a joke in terms of healing, it's hard to see that anyone would even be capable of taking down a boss in F2P rather than get frustrated and quit. Even if they did make Giant Mole or something F2P, the drops are a joke and most of them are unfortunately members items anyway.

^They could design a boss specially for f2p, that drops many f2p items. But of course they won't because of money reasons.

They could I guess but it's hard to see what it would drop aside from a bunch of rune stuff. I mean we already have cockroach soldiers so to compete with that and to be an actual boss, they would need to drop ~10K worth of stuff every kill and require some level of skill to take down. If they did everyone would probably go farm the living daylight out of it .

I don't know what other f2p creatures drop, but it could drop stuff that only members can make, but non-members need. Like a nice stack of nature runes, law runes, arrows, high level food etc. For example they could use that boss so that ironman on f2p would be more of a possibility :)

Yeah they nerfed rune drops from many creatures last year as part of the way to increase rune prices. Killing a boss to obtain higher level food is interesting. I don't think people have considered getting higher level food as from boss kills before. It might make some skillers upset. I mean 50 Fishing is not too bad when you can just buy the few feathers you need from shops. I do think you have an intriguing idea of perhaps tilting the drop table more toward raw resources for ironman accounts ;).

If I found a AGS from a monster I would definitly want to use it, thus conning me into a month of membership. ;)

I don't think they currently have the game mechanics to make monsters drop P2P items on F2P worlds (or they would be doing it, right?) but that is a good point :P.
