What I've learned this year...

Nature is getting really (too) strong

Katrina, Rita and other hurricanes have destroyed half the coast of the USA, and i was suprised Bush didn't do anything about it. Yesterday i saw in a TV-show a few images about cops who were robbing stores right after Katrina and who denied it in front of a camera who had seen everything. A few days after the whole city flooded there was no help for the black people or the poor. Way to go Bush, you've spended all the money on (useless) warfare, and now you gotto carry the consequences.

Solidarity, yes! Way of spending it, shameful

Weird title maybe for you guys, but it's rather a personal experience. At the end of last year, a tsunami has destroyed South-East Asia. So, we (Belgians) started a huge donations fond ('Tsunami 12-12') and we (6 mil people) collected over 55 million euros. I thought, wow that's helpful for the people there but what i see now? A local news-team has filmed a few villages we Belgians were going to help, you know i didn't see any difference between now and a year ago ( and by that i mean after the tsunami ), conclusion? The USA, Europe have donated enough money to help people in Asia, but some rich fellows think it's better to keep it themselves.

What have YOU learned this year?

Not to belive everything you hear

I always used to agree with all my families views on other religions, politics, and things in general. In college I really learned a lot about different life styles and now have to hold back from starting arguments with people I used to agree with. Also after a rigorous college Biology course I notice half of marketing is complete lies, 2 examples that piss me off:

For example it's practically impossible to loose more then half a pound of fat a day, thats even more true if you try to do so for more than one days in a row; yet literally dozens of companies have people that "lost 15 pounds in 3 week"

In Bayer commercials it shows Tylenol and Alive and says "these pain relievers won't do a thing if you have a heart attack. Only Genuine BAYER will save your life if you have heart trouble. What a bunch of misleading bull. Yes, Tylenol won't do anything because its not aspirin, its ibuprofen. Aspirin can save you, but the 5 cent aspirin at Target will do the exact same thing as the $20 a box Bayer. Makes me what to beat the crap out of the snobby over rich marketers at Bayer who make old people think they will die if they don't shell out there Social Security checks for a overpriced chemical that hasn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t changed at all since the 1700s (At least Pfizer and the other drug companies use their profit pay off their R&D)

Phew, that was a nice rant.

Thats just natures way of getting back at us. I feel that technology can and needs to co-exist with nature. These things are good to level the playing feild (i aint saying the death of those people are good, but it still shows that nature is around)

I learnt that assuming the best in people improves your general attitude and is usually more accurate than assuming the worst in people. It stops arguments, and just makes people happier with you.

I've learned that if you want to properly insult somone, make a point, or do anything else that involves people taking you seriously - you can't say things like "spended."

That Bush is the most hated man in America.

No, he wasn't last year.

I learned that people don't kow much about this world.

insane, I like how you said that. :P

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

Spended?!?!

I'm sorry, I know English isn't your first language but thats the funniest word I heard all day. Its supposed to be "spent" by the way. Oh and thats the new quote of the day: "Way to go, you spended all the money!" :D

I've learned to just say "just is" or "just was." I used to take everything personally and critic myself on everything I did. But I learned to acknowledge what happens without deciding that it defines me as a person or that it is inevitable that it happens again.

And i'm trying to learn not to talk so much about crap that nobody cares about.

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

I learned that it is very important to try and make yourself happy, that it's not good to always look on the bad side of things, life is alot better after you quit smoking, people who are always very quick to judge others can be very unpleasant to be around, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, and I found out a few things about Chuck Norris that I didn't know about him!

I didn't learn it this year, but my computing teacher looks just like Chuck Norris. In fact, it's a running joke in his classes, so much like him does he look.

This year I learnt to juggle.

Uhoh, better not let him hear about it or he might roundhouse kick you :P

Oh, he knows. My brother's class had him as a teacher before I came to college, and they made sure he knew. It think he's lightened up about it now, though: on the last day before the holiday there was a computing quiz... I say computing, most of it turned out to be about Pink Floyd (needless to say, my team won). The last few questions were a picture round, in the style of "who is this", and the last picture was Chuck Norris. (It was the teacher who made the quiz).

Time for you to learn another thing before the year is over.

Im no lover of Bush but blaiming him for the lack of help after katrina is just stupid. It was Louisiana's tardo governor who felt that filing her FEMA paper's days late was perfectly fine. (If you didn't know, its through these papers that one can apply for federal aid... we have a paper trail in the government this way federal money (hopefully) isn't spent on lame things). Without these papers, louisiana couldn't get any federal aid, but the governor must have felt that that wasn't very important. Because she was going so slow, FEMA pretty much said *screw it* and sent in aid even without the necessary requirements, they felt that people shouldn't die because of one tardo that won't do her job. Now, Bush (and various other people) are now overhauling FEMA and the way it operates so that recieving federal aid is easy for even the idiots placed in office.

Like I said, im no lover of Bush, but if Katrina is anyone's fault, it's that stupid governor of Louisiana.
