Changing to someones login name?

A long time ago I created an account with an epic login name, and I remember reading that if you change your login name to something that isn't your login name after X number of days anyone can use your login name as there display name.

 

I just put membership on the epic account and changed its name to something different then its login name, but I need to know the exact amount of days until it's login name free'd up so no one can steal it.

I think it takes about 1 1/2 months, 6 weeks, for the old name to become public.

I'm pretty sure unless you're banned nobody can use your log in name. You use it to log in, after all.

I'm still using my original login name from when I created my account in 05. In the last year I have changed names twice. For the last 6 months I've been called Quenya. I can still login with my orginal name. Hope this helps..

28 days.

 

What you do is after you change it in members, you wait 28 days and then you can change your display name again. When you make this second change, your original one will become free.

By the original one you mean the name that you login with with become available?

 

Can anyone find the article on this subject, I believe thats where I read it.

I heard somewhere that if an account is inactive for a certain period of time, it's name is freed up and replaced with a jumble of numbers (It was something like [#123456] or something of that nature).

 

The problem is, that i think it had to have under certain stats too.

 

But yeah, I'm sure it's 28 days otherwise.

 

Also, your display name and log in name are different. True they might be the same if you just crated the account/it has always been F2P. But you can change it easily with 6 bucks.

Hmm. It just might be banned accounts then. Or possible your looter's name wasn't in high enough demand for the system to consider freeing it up. I'm just speculating though, i don't know how their name-freeing system works.

The number 28 still tickles my brain. But i heard that the longer the account had it's old display name, the longer it's held for them to take it back if they wish to change their mind. Or perhaps that was just the name change icon next to it? >.>

 

I think your safest bet is to add the account you changed to your friend's list, and check it right on the 28th day. If it says it's still not free, then check every day therefor after. It may be annoying, but it's the price you pay for a name you don't want to lose =\

Actually, it's 35 days.

 

If you change your display name, you can't change it again for 28 days. But you also get up to an extra 7 days buffer in case you're slow changing your name back, this amount is dependant on how long you had the initial display name. Obviously if you change your name AGAIN to a different name, you'll lose the first one because you'll be locked out by the name change period, but, if you don't change your name BANG ON 28 days later, it's no big deal.

 

I'll find a source for this, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

you should only have to worry about that if all skills are at minimum and its on tutorial island. one of my accounts was inactive for nearly 900 days, and the display name got defaulted to numbers, but i do have the option to login and change it back.

log in names are always yours

 

display names take 2 months before someone else can use them (once you have changed)

 

eg

 

person a changes there name to person 1

 

person b waits 2 months

 

person b can now change name to person a

 

its until the weird symbol on the side has gone from that player

 

 

person a can change there name every 28 days, but to get a name some one else has had you need to wait 2 months (28 days x 2 = 56 days) before you can have it

 

 

i know as my pures name which it has now use to be my "mains" name haha

Its hard to give an exact number of days.

 

Its true the basic setup is 28 days before you can change plus 7 more where the name is saved (making 35 days)

However if the name is your original login name or you have had it for a long time it is saved for much longer periods of time.

I haven't checked for a month or two but Paw Claw was still unavailable a good 6 months after I swapped from it (Paw claw being my login name)

Let's say Account X has the epic login name.

 

- Account X is given membership

- Account X gets his display name changed to bob456. Account X is logged into using "Account X" but in-game the display name is "bob456", with a name change symbol which shows their previous display name as "Account X".

- After 28 days the Account X changes their display name from "bob456" to "simon789". Account X is logged into using "Account X" but in-game the display name is "simon789", with a name change symbol which shows their previous display name as "bob456".

- The display name "Account X" is now available to be taken by anyone.
