I think low c should right a book...'Me and mr.garrison'. Anyways, back on topic: another thing you could do is make friends with the cops. I made friends with most of the cops in my city, and now, I find it easier to get away with speeding. Hell, there was one time back in 2008 where I did 135 in a 70 zone...cop pulled me over, told me I was speeding, realizing then that it was me. She asked me why I was speeding, I told her that I had an 'exam' in 20mins, and she let me go w/o a ticket and wished me good luck. If only she had realized that it was 8pm on a saturday.......

Am I the only teenager who doesn't like speeding? Like, driving in general scares the [cabbage] out of me, and if I realize I'm going faster than the speed limit, I'm like, "Oh [cabbage]!" >.>

It doesn't help that I'm the crappiest driver ever though. :3

My skin is finally getting soft
I'll scrub until the damn thing comes off

Driving fast isn't a totally bad thing to do, but driving fast in a residential area is. It really isn't worth the risk. 75 in a Residential zone? If somebody had walked onto the street they would have died, period. It is such an idiotic thing to do. You cannot possibly know every person will be at work or every child will be in school. NEVER drive fast in areas where there are pavements. I personally cannot stand people who excessively speed, even if it is only once or twice. I won't deny, I often go through 30 areas at 40, or 50 areas at 60, hell I sometimes drive down the motorway at 80-85, but driving those speeds in areas where there are pedestrians is not the right thing to do, and unlike many people I won't say live and let learn, you need a good hiding for that. Damn right you got scared by the police and serves you right, they should have done more, you may as well have been walking around with a loaded gun. I have no patience for people who put other peoples lives at risk. go ahead and kill yourself driving, I don't care too much, but other innocent people, I do care. The same goes for drunk driving.

@danqua: wow...that was a bit harsh. Your arguement is that 'a speeding car is like a loaded gun', but if that was the case, then why should anyone drive at all? The crime here wasn't entirely his fault, it was his idiotic friend using peer-pressure. The problem settled itself, and his peer-pressuring friend can never drive with him again. End of story?

He's just saying don't speed in a crowded, urban envioment. If there's sidewalks and a lot of ped-crossings...don't speed.

Sound advice too.

I've had my license for 10 years now and still drive like this.

Well...not exactly like this. Obviously the stuff like doing a burn out is really dumb. But theres no reason to become a speed-o-phobic.

Theres nothing wrong with speeding if you're not a total idiot about it. The traffic fatalities in your school have nothing to do with speeding, they're from reckless driving. I hit 80 literally every day going to and from work, and I have never been in an accident.

Why? Because I pay damn attention to what I am doing. If you're gonna go 95 and be on a gravel road and talk to your friends with the radio blasting, then yeah you're gonna die and you probably deserve it. But if you keep your eyes open and focus on driving, theres nothing dangerous about going fast.

Exactly.

Running the stop sign was really the dumbest thing out of everything you did. Just find a better place to get your speed fix and it'll be fine. I personally hit 85 on a certain road whenever there's no one in front of me or right behind me. Just don't do it somewhere you are likely to hurt someone else.

It's better that you learned from getting warned by a cop than from crashing or hitting someone. I wouldn't worry about it too much, everyone does something dumb once in a while.

Thank you all for your responses. I just want to clarify that i did in fact take drivers ed courses and do get a discount on insurance. I also want to point out that though the houses are relatively close together, this neighborhood is not considered "city". it is a new development (within the last 10 years) and there are no sidewalks, some houses still do not have grass front lawns. there are about 20-40 houses in the development (somehow my friend failed to mention 3 are cops). Furthermore, every house has a driveway and cars aren't allowed to park on the street (though the street is wide enough to accomodate)

To give an update to the story, his grandmother actually witnessed the whole conversation with the police officer but did not mention it when i went into his house. talk about embaressing. he also, as suggested, cannot drive with me in the future.

edit: this is mainly to the below post. I'm not in any way defending my actions, but i stress that this is not a typical neighborhood. at the top of the hill, its a dead end, the street that i sped up branches to two culdesacs with about 5 houses each. the stop sign that i went through is a dead end at one side. there is absolutely no thru traffic and i mentioned the lack of sidewalks to infer that combined with the steepness of the hill and no cars parking outside- nobody is, or has any reason to be, on the street.

»«....@op: your last little message just made your judgement in the scenario seem, well, rather bad. If you're driving in a neighborhood with NO SIDEWALKS, then don't speed. I still have a feeling that peer pressure was to blame for this scenario, but at the same time, peer pressure won't get people killed, you will. Best piece of advice I can give you: don't speed, and never drive with anyone except for your parents. Oh, and you're never going to be in a race to get anywhere...so don't feel like you ever need to go fast...

Last year when a group of my friends was hanging out, we all split into vehicles to drive to a guy's house. The guy whose house it was rode with one of my close friends to go pick someone up and direct her there, I was riding with another close friend behind a guy who doesn't normally associate with "good" people like us. We didn't know where we were going, so we had to follow him. He told us, jokingly, we'd have trouble keeping up. Taking the challenge, my aggressive friend decided we were going to fly over the solid line getting on the highway. The guy didn't take this lightly, he flew past us and eventually went over 100 on a winter Saturday night. We followed at 90 and eventually slowed to 80, watching his tail lights. We noticed we had to exit a bit late and came up the ramp at about 85. Once we got into the neighborhood, we were following through the hills and turns at about 45, still 10mph below him. Once we arrived, I was informed that one of my friends basically had a panic attack and squeezed my other friend's hand to death.

I was alright since I was with someone I trust with my life, but my other friends were not. I don't drive, but I understand the adrenaline. But, in most situations, the cliché "safety first" should be applied. Especially in bad conditions, in a car that you don't own, in neighborhoods or on busy roads, or with people you care about in the vehicle.

Last year I lost both my parents in a car accident because some idiot in a big yellow suv was speeding through a red light. Sorry if my previous post may've seemed 'flamey', but I can't help myself, especially when you very easily could've killed someone...

OP: you're young and you learn. Stop worrying about this crap. Your parents or your friend's grandmom might be giving you crap for this, but they are just trying to micromanage your life. You did something stupid, now just learn from it.

When I was learning how to drive, I was in my dad's old car and he said to me "Okay. Now I want you to run the car straight into this wall" We were in an old empty parking lot with big concrete walls on part of it.

So we were buckled up and I hit into the wall at around only 15 mph. The car came to such a sudden stop, made such a loud sound, and it hurt like hell. He then looked at me and said "Now this was at 15 mph. If you crash the car going 4 times this fast, you're gonna die." Never forgot this moment.

You can take all the drivers ed courses you want to, but nothing will teach you anything better than actually making a mistake. The only way to ever really be good at something is to mess it up first.

I honestly don't see the the appeal in speeding like this. Infact it would terrify me, i'm happy enough speeding around on a game with no risk to my life. I don't care that much for those that drive recklessly all the time but for those they can kill. Not long ago some idiot speeding around at night went and drove straight into someones bedroom. People weren't there (can't remember why) but they wwre extremely lucky.

People usually make mistakes when they're younger. It's how their personality grows and evolves. After all, people learn from making mistakes a lot more than not. This makes it much easier to build character. The wonderful thing about life is that you have the choice whether or not to do something. If you want to do it again, then it's your own fault and you'll face the consequences.
