Defencive yes, SAM missiles aren't practical for assault... unless you plan on staying for a while.

Well, ICBMs are just about as big as fighters, actually they're more often than not both bigger and slower, plus they don't try to shake them off.

Hence why they don't put SAMs in major cities to prevent nuclear annhialation.

No, retech high explosives and nukes generally don't work like gunpowder. Take C-4 for example, it can be burnt safely and can be hit relatively safely but if (and only if) you combine increased pressure and temperature will it detonate to cause an explosion and Most likely a SAM wouldn't cause the necessary stimulus. Nukes are generally a fair bit more picky than high explosives as to what stimuli are needed to detonate them (the splitting of an atom/implosion of fissile material are not caused by impact with a SAM generally). Rather they don't use SAMs because even if they could hit the nuke carrying ICBM (which is damned close to impossible) you've just distributed radioactive material into the upper atmosphere! I hope Detroit likes being even more [cabbage]ty now.

ICBMs also have an average speed of 3 Kilometers per Second, with the fastest at 7 KM/s

Compared to Missiles, which rarely go above mach 4, or 1.2 Kilometers per Second.

I believe that America still owns the rights to the f-35 fighters. Therefore nobody since us should have them, seeing as I posted earlier that all military contracts with foreign nations are cancelled.

Depends what sort of defence you are gonna go with.

Regional, National, Boost Phase, Mid Phase, Terminal Phase, Exoatmospheric, Endoatomspheric, Strategic, Tactical, Theater.

Generally, the wider the net you try to throw, the less efficent the net is.

You can only ever intercept an equal number of missiles to your effective defence...You cannot take down twenty missiles with five.

And, of course, whether you want to to launch an overwhelming defence (Say fifty missiles per missle) or just a 1:1 sort of thing. Since, at present, missiles have a 60% chance of hitting, two missiles should be able to intercept 1 missile. However:

About 400 Billion, can hit about 200 missiles at any given time, needs a decently powerful power grid, 55% chance.
