I think a better situation would be to install an NPC that is pleasant or friendly towards Japan, if Resistance will be gone for a long while, or put China in stasis, if Resistance won't be gone for too long.

 

At the very least, it would stop Mather from losing an ally, but not have it as an attack dog.

The main thing is not that we don't know what regency is, it is that we don't think it is fair when it is not official. I don't think that the Chinese would consent to being ruled by Japan instead of the communist party.

Japan may or may not control the military. Mather I would advise to take other people's views into consideration. You already have control over the third richest country in the world. Do you really need the 4th or 5th as well? In any rate if things go too badly untoward things might happen.

Honestly, it's probaly worse that it was damaged instead of destroyed. Instead of a pile of dead corpses, there would be hundreds of thousands of injured civilians running around the city demanding medical attention and running out of supplies.

I mean by every peace-loving nation in existance, that means, among others USA, UK, Australia, Norway, Denmark... just to mention a few.
