Gandalf14141
I think it would be pretty cool if there were awards that Mods/Admins could be added right below your information when posted (look at pictures given). It could be for when you have done something outstanding/honorable (such as having a guide in the AoW/reach level 138). Look at the pictures seeing as I'm giving a horrible explanation. Uploaded with ImageShack.us---Shows where the awards could be published. Uploaded with ImageShack.us---Shows examples of the kind of things we could include if this idea gets added. If there are any questions or anything please just post. I think this is a pretty cool little thing to add, but is not necessary. Thanks. EDIT: Added possible awards here from post below. [spoiler=Awards]Awards: The following awards have to be requested to get. You must show proof by a photo/screenshot. tripsis
I actually kind of like this idea :P I wouldn't want to incorporate all the awards you suggested (like no to "Angel," for example), but it would be a great way to get some additional recognition for AOW guide authors, we could work it into Achievement of the Month, etc. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
jimmy_jim
I like your idea about Archive of Wisdom, but I'm against anything that makes one user superior to another. Probably having a guide AOW'd or having the Achievement of the Month (Or something similar) are good ways to use the awards feature. RIP Michaelangelopolousu can control my tip it account, but youll never control how fine i am!This is by FAR my favorite song: I love N_odie and would never edit his posts! I love Rainy_Day too <3 And also Cowman_133. <33 Oh, and Laikrob is a going to hunt me down and kill me like a pest kangaroo if I reveal how awesome she is. I owe tripsis skittles. Danqazmlp
I like the ideas of achievements and the like. The angel one would be impossible here due to so many members of the forum, but some of the others would be great. Want to be my friend? Kaphias
Having an AOW award would also (theoretically) encourage users to make more good guides. Something that I've seen happen on other forums is when a person gets lots of these awards, their post space is stretched out taller than it needs to be because so much information is in that box on the left-side of the page. Looking at Dan's post above this, for example, his profile information is already stretching his post out more than his signature. If he was to have a line or two of these awards, it could be stretched out significantly. 8,325th to 99 Firemaking 3/9/08 | 44,811th to 99 Cooking 7/16/084,968th to 99 Farming 10/9/09 | Runescaper August 2005-March 2010Tip.it Mod Feb. 2008-Sep. 2008 | Tip.it Crew Sep. 2008-Nov. 2009
The Observer
I like your idea about Archive of Wisdom, but I'm against anything that makes one user superior to another. Probably having a guide AOW'd or having the Achievement of the Month (Or something similar) are good ways to use the awards feature. Pretty much this. The reason why Tip.it don't have any different rank structures (Senior Member... Honoured Member... like RSC or even a reputation system) is that it will create an environment where people will become superior to another in their thinking. So this award system would have to be an application that won't involve any of that.
Hawks
Yeah, I think awards for AoW guides, or having a Times article published (as a guest author), winning a Sig of the Fortnight Contest, or POTM contest, would be awesome. Something else that might be cool would be awards for having been a mod, crew, TET, etc. I think in-game achievements would be okay to 'celebrate' as well, but only a few, like 138 combat or 99 in x skill. So agreeing with pretty much all that's been said, just things that say you're different and good at x, rather than you are superior to all people who've joined since you did, etc. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
Gandorf61
Hmm this isn't a bad idea. As long as the awards aren't ones that will encourage low quality posts I think this could work out nicely. Awards for things such as AOW guides, contest winners, creating high active discussions, or helping the community in some way would help encourage better posts and being an overall good contributor to the community. Kimberly
TET could definitely make use this, and clan staff could use it to create awards for their activities as well. This is an awesome idea. Pleaaaaaaaaaaase do it.
Gandalf14141
Wow, I didn't expect to get so many positive responses on this! I think it'd be alright for some awards to be like "138(or Maxed) Combat Reached" or like a little circle with say (for example) the fletching emblem and when you move your cursor over it would say "99 Fletching" or something of the sort. But again, I'm happy to that this has gotten the attention of the Admins, Mods, and the general public. EDIT: Obviously something that would bring up trash posts wouldn't be around. Also, I'm not necessarily saying that these exact awards have to be used, but instead thinking creatively about them. I'll make a list of possible awards sometime this week. tripsis
We really can't have too many rewards (especially ones that would be so common) because they would have to be manually added by an admin and quite frankly, we can't sit around taking requests all day. So that would cross out a few of those (maxed stat, maxed combat, contributors, etc.) Additionally, we don't want to divide members of the community. Having awards like "The PoPo" or "Be Gone!" or "Superior Linguist" would identify certain members as being better than others. And it identifies anyone who DOESN'T have those awards as not being good enough, or it marks them as troublemakers or bad users. So if a user has done something unique, worthwhile and hard to achieve, that is something we can recognize. It should be something extra that they get. But we don't want anyone who DOESN'T have it to feel left out or belittled. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Ouchy
Personally I think anything that is a RuneScape in game achievement should not be an award. It should strictly be limited to what is done in the Tip.It Community. However I am all for this idea of Awards and fully support it. My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.
Gandalf14141
Alright I understand, but those were just some suggestions. Ultimately if the awards are added, I'd love to see them. Those were just some suggestions, it's up to the Admins to decide whats added and whats not. Finally on here to update that I have officially quit! Will H
I imagine the best candidates for awards are the ones that represent contribution to Tip.It, not Runescape. That means submitting guides, participating in events, perhaps some community awards by public/moderator vote, things like that. I personally think that the best place to put your Runescape achievements is in your signature, like my little Quest icon. It's a great idea though! ~ W ~
