Nex

So... Me and my team tried to do some Nex today, yet we failed.

Our setups were;

6man.

Elite Void, Claws, Dboots, ROW, Alerter, Fury

Inventory:

Ccbow/ Spectral/ Maul/ Void ranged Helm/ 2 OVLs/ 2 Recover Spec/ 3 Brew/ Anti++/ Telly Tab/ Rest super restores.

On yak; 28 brews, uni + scrolls.

We all had rigour / piety.

~~~
Things were horribly, and we were wondering if pure ranged setup with armadyl is better than void with maul, and also having thoughts about using ACP + Deflector setup, pure ranged.
NEW QUESTION: What's better, ACP + Deflector, or Armadyl + EEK? Because someone today claimed that Armadyl was better (I assumed Armadyl with EEK)
NEW QUESTION 2: What about ACP + Deflector, Armadyl + Ely or Void + Ely, which one is better?
Failed, as in you didn't get any kills at all?
If that's the case, the biggest problem lies within your tactics. Are you avoiding attacks that can be avoided, using the correct prayers, using your special attacks at the right time, and dealing with her other moves accordingly?
Your gear isn't exactly optimal. For one, Spectral is pretty useless. Don't use a maul with void and Rigour, better to simply keep ranging, especially with such a large team. Have everyone use Armadyl Chestplate + Void Deflector, with a top and melee helm for claw specials. Make sure everyone is 99 Defence / Magic, as that will help spread the damage more evenly. Ranger boots are a much better choice, especially if you go the Void route, as you need every bit of range attack that you can get.
If you insist on using shields, lose the Spectral. It doesn't do you much good. Instead, use Eagle-eye kiteshield, or Divine/Elysian. Also, if you use that sort of setup, do not use Void - you won't have enough Range attack, since Void's accuracy boost is %-based.
Honestly though, it doesn't feel like a gear problem. Even if your gear is considered pretty bad, it's not horrible enough to make kills impossible. With 6 people, you should've been able to manage 1 or 2 kills anyways. It really sounds like your problem was a lack of skill/experience. If your goal is to build a permanent team with your friends, then my suggestion would be to not give up so easily. Keep trying, and note what goes wrong, and what goes right, and keep ironing out the mistakes.
Ok so...
- No Maul
- ACP + Deflector, Pure ranged
Well, we are a bunch of guys new at it (I'm the 2nd most experienced one), we started the kill DDing, and one guy taking the virus using all specials on nex then meleeing her with maul while some ranged (Not everyone had Maul). After that, got the mage, then shadow phase with rig + ranged pray, killed mage and then on blood phase, for some reason everyone missed hits all the time x_x, she kept healing and healing (we barely did any damage on syphon though), after blood phase was finally over (Which btw, some of use used claws there again), on ice phase we did just fine, and on final phase things went a bit smooth when we got a tanker, but on random tanks her hits are just too constant (I got her on me and it was a pain to keep up brewing).
So, should we also bring rapier for mages?
Rapier is great on the mages, but there's a few things to keep in mind.
1) While fighting Umbra, you need to avoid shadows. It might be hard to see if you're all packed together, + if you're moving around, you might end up with a whole block of shadows to dodge. Just pay extra attention.
2) While fighting Cruor, Nex will use a powerful splashing spell. Protect magic helps but it will still tear through you. If no one is drawing these attacks away, then Rapier here is a very bad idea, as you will all be constantly taking a lot of damage.
3) While fighting Glacies, Nex will still use contains, which are extremely annoying if you're all in one pile. Rapier is still viable, just a little frustrating.
In general, Rapier does have better DPS, but the advantage may or may not be worth the extra effort and inventory space. It's up to you.
Honestly, your description isn't very specific. I will say though, you should consider putting some damage on the Reavers. When Nex casts her siphon, all remaining LP on the Reavers is fed directly to her. In other words, if you do not finish the phase in that "round" (defined as between two siphons), any damage you dealt to the Reavers is essentially damage done to Nex.
There's probably a lot more I could say on the matter but I've written an entire guide once... I don't really feel like cramping my hands typing it again, lol. I hope this helps.
There was a decent Nex guide in progress here on Tip.It but it was lost in the Exodus and has yet to be reposted. Just sayin'
PM me in game anytime
It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.
That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.
Actually, it was never posted. I meant to post it after it was complete and I was comfortable that the information would remain up-to-date for a while. Due to the recent events (not quite related to the Exodus), I'm not sure if I'm going to post it at all.
Anyways, to be on-topic, Divine/Elysian are not necessary. They're great to have, but there are some top-notch setups that don't even use them. Spectral is a bad idea though.
On blood phase, make sure to claw a lot (NOT ON THE SIPHON THOUGH), count attacks for siphon (5 rapid crossbow speed attacks from blood sacrifice will be the siphon, so get off and shoot a reaver), stay restored up so your DPS doesn't struggle, pray magic, stay near her so she melees sometimes rather than spamming blood barrage, and just keep your DPS up as much as possible. If a team member is doing a poor job damaging her, they are likely doing more harm than good by healing her.
On Curses, claw again (NOT ON DEFLECT MELEE, safest to wait until she's not praying anything), stay near her so she melees sometimes instead of spamming magic, pray melee if you're tanking and magic if you're not, keep yourself restored up (very important, if your magic level is brewed too far down she will target you constantly and make you spam even more brews), use diamond bolts, and keep your DPS up as much as possible. Again, those with less impressive damage outputs are doing more harm than good here by providing free food. If your overload runs out on this phase, do NOT try to finish the kill without repotting- the loss of defense will feed her and make her target you, and your DPS becomes worthless. An unoverloaded player on curses phase is like a walking hamburger just for Nex, you'll do the team more good teleporting out.
Sounds like those phases were your biggest problem times, and with good reason. Those are the ones where incompetence really screws the team- everyone needs to stay on top of doing damage or she'll just heal forever. Hope that helped, good luck!
Full Arma with ely is your best bet, but the most important thing is to make sure your team has similar magic defense. If one of your teammates is in void and everyone else has Arma, Nex will camp the guy in void and they'll use a disproportionate amount of brew. If everyone uses void it's not that much worse than Arma. In the case of void, ACP + deflector is going to be a lot better.
