Slayer Special Weapons

Is there any offensive special usable on a slayer task that would out-DPS rapier?

At what point would it out-DPS rapier (i.e. potions, prayers etc)

 

By the same token, is there any defensive special worth using on slayer tasks if I can losslessly flash soul split?

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

I often bring EEE to slayer tasks. I find that it is the only spec weapon I really use for slayer. It raises defence and heals. Saves a couple prayer points. I turmoil most tasks(with rapier)

Claws is the clear choice, and perhaps DDS as well? I'm not really sure about the DDS, but definitely claws. All the Godsword specials probably do as well since they all receive an attack+strength boost for the spec.

 

And outside of multi-combat, Korasi's would as well.

Korasi is always better than rapier, claws almost always are better still, dds is only ever better on extremely low defence and probably only worth the hassle in Kuradal's.

 

Godswords have the disadvantage of taking 6 ticks each, so it'd have to hit 50% higher than a rapier to be worth it. Hitting 1k ags specs? Not really.

Specials are pretty negligible on slayer. Additional damage specials (aka ags) don't even stack with black mask, unless that has been changed.

 

Claws are the best choice I believe, but barely help with rapier.

In Kuradal's dungeon, bar metal dragons, a claw spec is worth ~2 rapier hits. So you get a bonus 24 hits per hour, assuming you are hitting 90% of the time, that's an increase under 2% but still above what tassets provide.

As has been mentioned previously, I would stick to Claws. I've found them to be the most useful across the board. Perhaps Korasi's has a slight advantage over Claws in certain scenarios, but personally, I'd rather just bring Claws along every task instead of having to worry about switching secondary weapons between tasks. If you do Dust Devils, you might want to consider a DDS for them.

Only in Kuradal's though right? Everywhere else a claw spec is probably more like 1.5 rapier hits.

Only in Kuradal's though right? Everywhere else a claw spec is probably more like 1.5 rapier hits.

Yes, so you're talking like 12 hits or maybe a percent additional dps. It gets more significant when killing stuff with a cannon in single combat if you claw things far away, to 'free' the cannon to hit something closer by more times per rotation.

 

In Kuradal's the only task you would do is irons and steels where claws are just a tiny bit inaccurate. I find that I usually miss 1 or 2 hits per claw spec which would definitely favour Korasi's.

Since I don't personally have cash for claws, I generally don't bring a spec weapon at all - when I first got rapier, I tried pairing dds as my spec weapon with it on my slayer tasks, and I was unimpressed with the damage I was dealing. I'll likely end up using korasi now though, thanks to you lot :P

 

EEE may be something worth using, but I'd lose a combat round for healing, which really isn't that necessary when you can just ss with rapier, I suppose :P

 

I'll likely end up using korasi (or nothing at all) until the time I can afford a pair of claws (which won't take long, assuming I bother logging on and actually doing something, anyway).

If used properly, EEE doesn't need to interrupt combat so no attacks are lost.

That's quite true, yeah. It's just that I'm on dialup, so getting the timing down for switching to eee, speccing, and switching back in a rapier's attack turn should prove slightly difficult. Still, the loss of one attack turn from a screwup every once in a while would be outweighed by the 400lp heal + def boost. Still, an offensive spec weapon would be more preferable for my usual slaying :P

I liked using SGS spec at Waterfiends(CT), as claws didn't seem to hit very often ;)

Probably the only place where SGS has some uses, but I doubt it's much better than a maul hit, and certainly inferior to a Korasi spec. Unless you're talking CT fiends where I would go with EEE after overload.
