Earth_Poet
I looked, but was disappointed I did not see a thread about this. HBO premiered a series based on George RR Martin's epic fantasy series. I was excited when I heard about it, and so far the series has not disappointed me. It follows very closely to the book. The only concern that I've had is that the storyline may be moving a little too fast for someone who hasn't read the book. It is a complex tale. Has anybody else been watching this series? If so, what are your thoughts?
Alg
Watching it, but reading the book on the side. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
tripsis
I've been watching it as well :) I started reading the book like 9 months ago but only got like 200 pages in before I got bored. Watching the series has made me want to give the book another try though. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
pfilc23
I'm really enjoying the series so far and I'm impressed with the justice they are doing the books...there have been many parts of the dialogue that match word for word. Episode 3 was kind of a set up episode, 4 should have a lot of excitment. I'm also re-reading the books right now and am anxiously awaiting the next book, which is long overdue. It is my favorite fantasy series and I'm glad HBO is doing such a good job. I imagine Terry Goodkind is kicking himself for not holding out for better than that travesty of show, Legend of the Seeker.
nine naked men
Really enjoying the show so far. All the characters have been casted pretty great, in my opinion. Tyrion is just awesome, haha. And I like how even the scenes that they've added that weren't in the books didn't feel out of place. The scene in ep3 where Robert is talking w/Selmy and Jaime was great, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the book. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
Kimberly
I've read the books so far and I think the writers of this show, under the guidance of Martin, are doing the best they can in a 1hr episode format. There have been some little (yet big) issues that I didn't exactly like, but I'm trying to suppress the nerdrage and enjoy the series for what it's accomplishing. For one thing, I think the show is doing a far better job at displaying the maturing and growth of Danaerys and just how screwed up Cersei is from the get-go. And can I just say, the person they cast as Syrio was magnificent. Arya and Syrio's interaction was instant magic and reminded me every bit of the book. I watch it every week with my boyfriend, who hasn't read the book. So far, he loves the series and wants to read the books. I've only had to explain maybe one or two things that weren't well pointed out in the tv show, and all of them insignificant things like, "That's the Wall." or "Those are Joffrey's siblings". meb
I love those books :o Did he even finish the series? I only got to book 4 or 5 and then I found it there weren't any more :( Retired 2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks. meb
Hmmm I think I still recall most of the story. Will be annoying to adapt to the English version though since I read the translated version. Fill me in here:[hide]- The guy who nailed his sister is in some castle laying siege to the father of the wife of the guy who died in book one; - He basically thought "screw you" when his sister (the current regent) asked for help after she was captured by the religious fanatics occupying the capital - The Lannister midget killed his father and is now sailing East - The children from the king's friend who died in book one are going past the great wall to look for something - The northern people fled over the wall because of the white ghosts killing them - The daughter from the friend of the king who died in book one is... ? - The chick in the East who has the dragon whelps is still rampaging through the country - The Viking-ish islands are now led by a guy who has an anti-dragon horn of some sort [/hide] I'm bad with remembering names. Nom
I'm really happy with the show so far except for thinking it could be paced a little slower in some places. There are so many characters, it wouldn't hurt to do some lingering scenes. I liked the added scene between Robert, Jaime and Barristan for that reason. And I agree Syrio is fantastic. Probably my favorite casting is Joffrey. Perfect douchey little kid.

It's been awhile since I read the book, but I still find myself speaking the lines sometimes before they do. It follows that closely. And yeah, I imagine episode 4 will be the jousting tournament? If so, I am definitely looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to seeing a certain beggar king get what's coming to him. And yeah, maybe this will finally motivate Martin to finish the series. Really enjoying the show so far. All the characters have been casted pretty great, in my opinion. Tyrion is just awesome, haha. I LOVE the Imp. I found him one of the most fascinating characters in book one. He really knows his strengths and weaknesses. I was excited to see Tyrion portrayed on screen. Arya and Syrio's interaction was instant magic and reminded me every bit of the book. I thought the same thing! Then again, I think they did a fabulous job all around with casting. I'm really happy with the show so far except for thinking it could be paced a little slower in some places. There are so many characters, it wouldn't hurt to do some lingering scenes. I wondered that myself. There really are so many complex characters weaving in and out of the story.
Earth_Poet
Alright, I was a little disappointed with the jousting. It was certainly more of a spectacle in the book, but I suppose they showed the only one that mattered for the plot.
nine naked men
[spoiler=Ep4 Spoilers]Pretty good episode. The only thing I would say against it is that some of the exposition felt a little forced. Tyrion/Theon scene was great, though. All of the added scenes have been great, actually. And I know it's unrealistic, but I wish the Mountain was bigger, haha. And Littlefinger, ffffff he's awesome. "Distrusting me was the wisest thing you've done since you climbed off your horse." Even his walk, I think he was casted perfectly, haha. This probably sounds really disjointed and all, but yeah, I definitely think the show's started to hit its stride, and it's only going to get more awesome. Also, oh man that neck stab was great. EDIT - also, in the very last seen, where everyone has their swords on Tyrion, someone in the bottom right is casually drinking from their mug. Seems like a very Bronn thing to do, haha. :3 sleep like dead men wake up like dead men
Pkmastachaos
Not too far into the 'A song of Ice and Fire', but I am really enjoy it so far. Normally I have a pretty easy time remembering characters, but with so many being introduced, and with their nicknames its troublesome to keep track without a list of some sort. Small gripe aside though, I finished watching the first episode last night and was impressed. Can't wait to get further into the book / tv series. Earth_Poet
Last night was the best episode yet. [hide=Spoilers]Tyrion is fantastically clever, and he is only going to get more interesting in the next few episodes. I was happy to see Viserys get the crown that was coming to him. They did that scene very well.[/hide]

Napalm
I'm watching the show, and loving it. The production of it is simply astounding. They really put a lot of effort into the details. Also, my mom watched episode 2 with me and liked it so much she watches all the episodes now. lol. Anyone else thinks Tyrion's character is sort of a mini House MD? Except the MD part, of course, but his personality is very similar. nine naked men
Definitely thought Bronn's fight with Ser Vardis was a lot more awesome in the TV show than in the book. Also, couldn't help myself and watched Ep 7, so now I need to wait a fortnight for a new episode. Totally worth it though. ._. sleep like dead men wake up like dead men

indy500fan
I've been enjoying it pretty well so far. I first attempted to read the book many, many moons ago (I think only two books of the series were out) and failed pretty hard. I remember getting around a quarter of the way in and giving up. Too many characters introduced, couldn't get attached to any part of it. After hearing they were going to make a TV series out of it I attempted to read it again, and this time got through it (just started book three). I still think it jumps around a little too much and concentrates on a few too many different people, but overall I am really enjoying them. As for the TV series the first episode I really enjoyed, I had just barely finished the first book before it came out so it was all still pretty fresh. The second episode is where I got somewhat disappointed. They were showing the King's party heading south and it just looked cheap. Barely 20 people, hardly a road at all, not at all like I expected the trip to be. Then later in the episode they showed the Dothraki horde which consisted of about 20 people on horseback, and that was disappointing. I got over it though, it is just what you have to deal with on a TV budget. Since then there's been a few other parts like that were a little disappointing, like the dire-wolves. But then this last two episodes with the Eyrie, now that was a lot better than I expected so it all makes up for it...
marcustullius
Episode 7 is up on torrent sites, webrip though so not the best quality. And you have to wait two weeks for episode 8, so if you think you can handle no new episode on Sunday, it's totally awesome
Earth_Poet
Anyone else thinks Tyrion's character is sort of a mini House MD? Except the MD part, of course, but his personality is very similar. Tyrion was one of my favorite characters in the first book, and I was really interested in seeing how he would be portrayed. The actor that plays him has done a FANTASTIC job. He's extremely clever and manipulative. I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but this is the most complex and serious character I've ever seen from a dwarf. It breaks the mold of snow white, oompa-loompas, and mini-me. I hope we can see more characters like him in the future.
