The Game of Thrones TV series - Season 4

I suppose they're trying to fit in everything they can, as Kim said, for more and more points of view.

Was talking about it with my friend; and we've realised that we haven't a clue of the names of most of the people or what they're doing

I don't think that works very well though - you can do it in a book, but on TV...the constant switching between POVs where very few actually happens is getting annoying...plus it leaves out some important aspects while showing others that wouldn't be as important...

[hide=Spoiler?]Speaking of cliffhangers...What in the name of Zeus' beard happened at the end of the latest episode?![/hide]

You'll get an explanation of sorts in the next episode (If not, the one after that).

[spoiler=Book spoiler]Doesn't that happen after Renly's death, though? Either way, there was little to no explanation of it in the TV series. In the book Stannis wanted Storm's End back from the remnants of Renly's supporters with as little bloodshed as possible, here it just seems like Stannis says "Alright, take her to the middle of the ocean, she'll know what to do" :-k

It seems like they're assuming that most of their viewers have finished A Clash of Kings by this point, so they aren't bothering to explain any of it.

Still, good special effects

[hide]remember how Stannis had sex with the red lady last week's ep? Yep, got her pregnant [/hide]

In the books they left it to the imagination... Honestly though I think that the TV series is just an excuse to show us ASOIAF in pornz.

They really didn't leave it to the imagination in the book. Throughout the red priestess' and Davos' point-of-views, it's pretty much spelled out that she performed a ritual with Stannis that involved having sex to draw on his "lifeforce" to make these shadowbabby demon things.

These little subtleties that readers pick up on would otherwise be lost in translation if they did it the same way on tv. Remember, they're catering to the masses here. So long as it isn't wrecking the narrative context and crucial plotpoints of the storyline, I'm okay with these little thrown-bones to the TV audience.

Unless I'm mistaken(been a while since I've read the books), Melisandre summons such a shadow twice. Once to kill Renly, once to end the siege of storm's end. Only...this should be the one that kills renly...yet the scene is the one for conquering storm's end? Wonder why they did this, especially cause anyone who hasn't read the books probably has no clue why she had to go to that cave to birth that demon...

Ok.... Wow... Um... just wow.

That was such a cliffhanger if I ever saw one. Guess I'll be torrenting a new episode every week. *curse you shitty HBO here*

Be careful what torrents you get. Try to stick to a private site on those. I'm the contact the DMCA sends their notices to for my ISP, and I'd say a good 10-20% of them are for various Game of Thrones torrents.

All I know is, if they cut out the scene of Renly eating a peach at his meeting with Stannis, or the hawk discussion with Davos, I will be one angry fan-nerd.

...Up to which episode did you watch season 2?

Did not yet watch The Ghost of Harrenhal.

Then you should already be an angry fan-nerd :|

Still plenty of time for them to fit those conversations into the story. They certainly didn't miss their opportunities. They're simple to do that the audience will largely understand, add to character depth, and are short and easily adapted to the screen. There are other subtle parts in the book that I can understand them omitting, like Tyrion's first encounter with Jon Snow and Snow's impressions of him as he leaves, but those things are no-brainers.

But Stannis already met Renly? And there was no peach? Unless they deviate a lot from the book, I doubt very much they'll meet again.

Stannis didn't give him his ultimatum, which is when the peach speech happens.

He did give his ultimatum. I reread it right now because I wasn't sure if I remembered it correctly, but it's definitely the peach scene(without the peach)

I must've missed it too. Bah. ;_; Stannis needed a few moments like that to give him some humanity.
