Thorgmir
I'm starting to close in on 80 dung and wondering what my first chaotic weapon should be. I do not intend to do any more slayer and will be using it primarily to boss hunt. I imagine I will be hunting primarily TDs until I can earn enough cash to meet requirements for pro-teams for other bosses. If there are other methods of making money that would suit me better that might influence this choice, I would appreciate hearing that too. I know that a chaotic maul is regarded as better than a rapier for TDs, and I also may use it to camp waterfiends to max defense, but are these enough to compensate for the loss of rapier's all around usefulness? Sado
You should get the CR. Unlocking frosts and a 2nd chaotic is highly advised due to the fact that the exp is a lot better.
Ddude42
Even though you say you'll primarily boss hunt with your chaotic, many bosses are actually best fought with a Chaotic rapier. DKs, TDs, Bandos/Zamorak God Wars, Nex if used in conjunction with Rigour + Chaotic crossbow, and the rapier is king for general killing, because not that long ago the whip was the best. As was posted above, you should consider getting a 2nd chaotic as soon as possible, getting either a maul or crossbow. Ignore the Chaotic longsword completely, because its only uses are high level castle wars melee fights, Skeletal wyverns, and is equally effective as the rapier at Bandos God wars. Nifflin
Get a rapier, it's not like you can possibly regret it. Use the tokens you get later on more niche chaotics. PM me in game anytime It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet. That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying. mlskid
i am one who didn't take other's advice and chose a maul as my first chaotic... hmmm Not the best decision. Oh well I'm back to dging casually until I get that rapier, or at least close to it again. Don't make the mistake I did, get the rapier, it's well worth it. Mini_Spawn
I prefer maul to rapier only on duo td's. If both my duo partner and I are using the maul we both can get a 500 in before the prayer switches. If you're soloing I think rapiers speed would better serve you. You'll probably get 2 200's in for most prayer swaps. The maul hits hard but a 0 means you do no damage for a long time. A 0 with the rapier isn't as significant. I'd recommend getting the rapier first. It's useful as an all around weapon- viable in most any situation. Like the above posters I'd also recommend getting a second chaotic- the second one is MUCH faster than the first. For the record I'm 100 dungeoneering with 4 chaotics... My thoughts are slightly scattered but I feel the information is still valid (:
Nifflin
I find maul better for solo if you don't use AHK. Because if you're switching too many things you can miss a hit. Quyneax
If you think you will be doing mainly maul-related activities, get a maul. E.g. tds/wfs. Personally I think it'd be a good idea to camp fiends to 99 defence (get an iron titan first!), barrage rock lobsters to 99 magic (optional, skilling would also get you 99 but not as fast) and chinning nechs to 99 range if needed for 99 summ. For you, right now, a maul would probably serve you very well to max combat & hunt tds, plus it's not really hard to get a second chaotic afterwards. Evil_Sabre
Second chaotic is much easier than the first, so get what you think you need for the short term. If you want to camp fiends first then go for the maul.
Thorgmir
Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to end up getting rapier first and use it at TDs and not camp fiends. I'll chin nechs and burst rock lobs for charms instead. Here's another related question: which of the relatively inexpensive rewards (ie, less than 50k tokens) are worth getting? I'm thinking scrolls of cleansing, efficiency, and life, along with an arcane stream. Is there anything I'm missing or any of those I shouldn't bother with? Th e Doctor
Efficiency isn't great, life and cleansing are. Gem bag for slayer tasks is worth the 1 k tokens. Arc stream is great for DK's, barrows, ice strykes, etc. Bonecrusher/herbicide shouldn't even be looked at until you've got crapier, cmaul, ccbow, rigour, the above mentioned items, and T10 in your berserker ring/secondary ring, but then they are nice convenience items. All_Is_Great
Sneakerpeepers. Anyways, I got a staff first, then went to castle wars for some time and blew away all my cash :P But like Evil Sabre said, 2nd and onwards are exponentially easier to get.
