This type of data seems hard to collect, yet still useful. For example, anecdotally people have concluded that arctic bears, lava titans, and granite lobsters are very useful to use while hunting/mining/fishing, while beavers are less so for woodcutting. Being able to quantify the differences would be helpful.

Edit: To clarify, yes I know that a difference in experience per hour can be measured. There is still a lot to be learned, i.e. at what point, if any, do the benefits diminish, etc.

You can drain your stats with the cold that is north of Trollheim (outside GWD). Testing effectiveness of skill levels by draining stats is quite tedious since they will recover 1 every 100 game ticks (unless the log out trick works for drained stats as well). Testing with players with low leveled skills is inneffective as well since they level up too quickly to get an adequate sample size.

Log out trick works for drained stats, yes. I don't know about portable drains, but you can of course stew down :P.

As has been said you only need to find the amount of ticks in between resource-receiving chances. For example it is well known that when fishing you have a chance to catch a fish every 5 ticks. I'm sure it's similar for woodcutting. Mining would be much more difficult to determine because you only get one resource before it's depleted and has to respawn.

I think this is a legitimate request. If we knew exactly how it worked, it could be used to find what training methods are most efficient at what level, and the exact xp rates based on equipment used and skill level. Strange that we have yet to know this information after many years of chopping wood and catching fishies.

P.S. I wa shock when I noticed where Grimy's sig is from!

We already have that information. In basically all cases it comes down to level requirements, banking and ease that determine the best methods, there isn't something like willows becoming really good at level 46 woodcutting, as the rates are linear. As said before, other than interest, this doesn't have any other implications(xp rates makes the information redundant, being times easier to test).

Are the "attempt" speeds the same for every possible style of fishing?

i would be inclined to think not.

Okay, I've been harpooning tuna/swordies for awhile (because I'm lazy/don't pay attention) and alching the fish. Just ran out of FoG tokens for swordie gloves so I'm fly fishing to finish up 99. I'm alching the fish so I'm able to easily compare the attempt speeds. Based on the first few minutes, the attempt speed for fly fishing is definitely faster than harpooning.

For high alching the fastest you can cast without interrupting the fishing is 1 tick slower than the max cast speed (i.e., if you queue up the next cast while the previous is still going). Tuna/swordies came in at exactly that speed if they were catching right after another. Trout/salmon have came in slightly faster than I can cast.

This may just be because you are consistently catching fish every attempt.

No. I've been doing tuna/swords from 91-98 and alching. That was the fastest possible speed for them to come in. Fly fishing attempts are definitely a different rate than harpooning.

When you catch 3+ fish in a row all at the same intervals and have that happen hundreds of times at that same interval and never come in faster than that, you can be pretty sure thats the fastest they'll go.
