Piu
My stats in sig. I don't boss. Would a Chaotic Rapier be good enough for me since I don't boss? Or would I need a Chaotic Longsword to make up for my non-99 stats? Or should I not get a chaotic at all? The Observer
Rapier would be better. Longsword is more for bosshunting because it's more effective against higher defence. No. The longsword has a higher attack bonus and strength bonus. It has a primarily slash attack as well. Both of these characteristics make it a good weapon to use against boss monsters. The rapier has a strong stab bonus, and the primary method of using it is stabbing. Most bosses have a good stab defence. Most slayer monsters do not. Even though it has a weaker attack bonus, the attack speed far surpasses that of the longsword. This enables you to get in more hits within the same time frame of using the longsword in addition to exploiting that weakness to stab defence. This is a similar reason to why people picked whips over Godswords, although without the stab option.

The Observer
Well I meant more widely used boss monsters like Bandos. I have to admit, you can probably use a rapier for Saradomin. It's not like it matters because he said he wasn't going bosshunting anyway, so rapier works. So his question was answered and this is a little irrelevant really. My bad for adding it in. Piu
Bandos is stab-weak or slash-weak? Anyway, most maxed stats & welfare players use rapiers, since the attack bonuses don't really make much of a difference on their slayer tasks. Just wondering if I need a longsword to cover up for my low/mediocre stats. Jadinko
Graar is slash-weak with very high stab defence. He is the ONLY boss that this applies to. Coming from a player that barely has the stats to bandos. Lol. Miseryism | Completionist
Cheat
Oh dear this means he can't possibly know anything about the boss have read up on it or looked into the recent research done into the effectiveness of the chaotic longsword vs the chaotic rapier. Just because he doesn't have the stats does not mean he lacks the knowledge. On topic the rapier should always be your first choice chaotic unless you are a pure of some sort the chaotic longsword should be one of your last choices of weapon with very few niche uses being high efficiency bandos with the rapier still being a perfectly good weapon for the odd trip and the KO blow in rapier duels. Nifflin
Rapier gets better as you get higher stats, ovl, turm, better gear, ect. CLS gets worse as you get more elite. So do you want a weapon that will get worse over time or better over time? PM me in game anytime It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet. That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.
Saradomin_Mage
I believe CLS is still a weapon of choice for Bandos and Cave Crawlers, right? In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Grogthurk
CLS is better for Bandos. CR is better for everything else. But, for your first chaotic, you want rapier. I "want" CLS for looks. But I guess I'll go for practicality first.
