Anyone else here have OCD? Share your stories (in neat format)

I like to think I have just mild OCD. I can't stand people gratuitously spelling words wrong or using terrible grammar. I have to keep my backpack organized (papers need to be inside a binder in proper position, not strewn in the backpack). I like to line up my shoes properly, but it's not that big a deal if they aren't. I don't like major change. I like to clean my nails (by using my other nails) a lot.

And so on.

Of course, I don't know the extent of your 'activities' but those sound like habits to me.

The only OCD - type habit I can think of that I had was when I used to have to touch each side of the body equally. Say if I placed a palm on my right thigh, I'd have to do it to my left. You jabbed me in my left rib, make you jab me in the right. This was when I was a kid though, I don't do it anymore and I do not have OCD.

I used to have the same thing, got very annoying at times. Still happens sometimes though not very often, was mainly when I was younger.

It may be fun to call your odd quirks or habits OCD, but for those who have actually been diagnosed, the disorder can be really frustrating and life altering.

Thankfully, my quirks are exactly that - quirks.

nice self diagnosis. unfortunately there's a big difference between OCD and liking your [cabbage] to be arranged a certain way.

I have to agree with this. Too many people diagnose themselves with OCD over some a few minor routines or preferences. Either people are making constant bad diagnosis (es? I have no idea how to pluralize that) or a LOT of people have OCD.

As the others have stated, I'm not sure that these habits are actually OCD. For anyone who has been diagnosed I'm sure it's a different kettle of fish.

I have a few though, similar to yourself. One of these is neatness and organisation often regarding symmetry. I often must make things symmetrical when organising.

Diagnoses.

And yeah I really have to agree: there's a big difference between OCD and simply having a clean desk, or wanting to wash your hands after you've been to the toilet etc.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).

Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only provides temporary relief. Not performing the obsessive rituals can cause great anxiety.

No, you like to be neat.

A disorder or disease typically is different than what's the status quo. OCD has more of a typically drastic effect on your life. Having small little "quirks" or obsessions doesn't mean you have obsessive compulsive disorder. Humans are habitual by nature. So, any habits you have may not necessarily be associated with that. And people with OCD typically have strong compulsions to do an action. It's not something they do just for the hell of it. If they don't do it, they have an adverse reaction.

Trust me, you don't want OCD.

OCD stories, huh? Well, a friend of mine has to count the shirts in his cupboard every night, and if there isn't an even number in there, he has a panic attack. The worst thing was that he went to a boarding school, and the laundry people there were terrible, so shirts would often come back late or not at all.

For just quirky stories, though? Well, the cords of all electrical appliances I own need to be straight and untangled. And I regularly take apart my computer and keyboard to clean them, but that doesn't strike me as that strange. That's about all that springs to mind, since I just finished doing exactly that.

From what I've gathered, everybody has "OCD" in one facet of their life or another. I am extremely pedantic and meticulous with writing, hand-washing, dish-washing, schoolwork, and video game statistics. When it comes to stuff like cleaning the house, I usually half-ass it.

I always have to have certain things at an even number, and perfect symmetry. eg: my speakers on my PC I get fidgety if they aren't perfectly matching with my monitor.

When I was younger I used to have a big problem with symmetry. When I scratched my left ear with my right arm, I'd have to scratch my right ear with my left arm. If I banged my left knee on a desk, I'd have to bang my right knee on a desk. Thank god I grew out of that mess.
