Day Two - "The Stone Tablet"

 

Avalani, daughter of the renowned gardener Gustav shunned life amongst the flowers to follow in her brother "Tim the Wizard"'s footsteps, although she wasn't as interested in Fire Strikes. Little did she know where this path would lead; certainly not to years of research into a non-functional portal located at the Clan Camp. She just couldn't shake the feeling that it was somehow significant.

 

All knowledge of the portal had disappeared into history and legend. Some say it was actually part of a magic mirror that was smashed after Guthix asked if he was the most beautiful in the land, while others thought that maybe the famed artist Goldy Andsworthy had created it centuries ago. But how does this tie into Avalani's request for help? You shall soon see...

 

Congratulations on solving the puzzle I gave you, I'm impressed that you managed to solve it so quickly. You are clearly the person I'm looking for to help me!

 

It's been three weeks since I was given this strange tablet and I'm still no closer to understanding the meaning behind the text shown. It was given to me by a most peculiar stranger. All they said to me was "Justice through his judgement". Useless really, why can't people be more direct? Why is there a need to be so mysterious?

 

Anyway, to the task at hand; here is the text shown on the stone tablet that I've transcribed for these 'forums'. Can you make anything of it? I certainly can't.

Across I1 (5 letters) - A wooden way of making food

Across A3 (4 letters) - A miner necessity for transporting

Across K8 (3 letters) - A legal travel document

Across I10 (3 letters) - I hear you really have to work for this vessel

Across I3 (5 letters) - A stone who sells cold chocolate

Across C2 (4 letters) - Forward is not how you wear this cape

Oh, I almost forgot to mention; when I was examining the tablet I had a strange vision. Perhaps it will mean something to you. I'm quite good with a paintbrush, if I do say so myself.

Picture is obvious shows rune area of GE > Murky Mat is there > take items to him

Grain just doesn't make sense in my head because it's asking for a wooden way. Oh well. =X

Grain makes sense if u view it in light of how the other clues work.

 

Way is another word for direction; eg you go that way/direction.

The direction of wood is defined by the grain of the wood.

Grain is used in making food

 

Most other clues split in two like tht as well

A mine cart for miners, a cart as a form of transport.

 

A legal travel document

legal links to law

teleports are travel

Initially an internal document that helps.

That helps, to help is to aid.

Start of a disaster > disaster = CATastrophe

Has a ball > Cannonball > Cannon has one of them.

Fits perfectly when reading the clues in tht disjointed cryptic vein. As they all have a duel meaning, but don't REALLY make sense as a whole.

You can start them at any time before the clue fest ends. Technically speaking, you can do them all the last day. The fun is keeping up with them as they progress.

They usually leave it open for a few days after the last clue for all the people who have been busy/all the lazy SOBs who just wanna be told the answers and make no effort to figure out the puzzles at all.

K good, time to figure out the answer from day 1, this is going to be fun... lol

You don't get the rock in your inventory but you do have it.

You just go to ava lady and she takes it.

Same here. I've spent all day trying to get Churn and Ballad to fit :wall: Some of these clues aren't quite right...

Wood gnome is a type of gnome. You are all probably too young a comic strip by the name of Paulus the wood gnome.

Grain can be wooden in the sense of "wood grain", i.e. the way lines run through the wood.

 

Not that there's any connection between this meaning and food or cooking...

How does grill work at all?

Grill's don't have any relation to wood at all. You grill with electric appliance or charcoal barbeque.

 

The grain explaination fits in tidily with how the other answers form and is frankly less of a stretch than others. like initially > initials

 

Plus "make food" doesn't work with grill.

You cook food on a grill but you don't food with it.

Making implies mixing/forming something to cook.

Aside from the fact all the clues seem to divide into two unrelated meanings.

 

And direction of the wood is decided by the grain.

direction = way.

Wooden way. > wood direction > grain of the wood.

 

And then the other half making food, grain makes food.

I'm still of the opinion that it's grill, as in wood grilled. Whatever, either one works for the clue.
