8/9/2011 UPDATE!

Sweet... I got hacked once again!

Avast full system scan twice = 0 bad things found...

I auto clear spam folders so I didn't click or open any mails there...

I can't take this any longer... first being accused of hacking (hacker was on Chinese IP, I'm in the USA...) and having stats from 3 years ago rolled back... and now hacked again. Seriously...

Here's my IP:

Here's the login...

Sorry for wall of text :/ but here goes:

On July 5th I tried logging into the game after about 2 months of inactivity only to find after resetting my password that my account had been banned for "Minor Macroing."

This was shocking. For one, I had not been playing for almost 2 months because I was busy with school (finals, then summer course that just ended yesterday...). Also, the highest offense I've ever received in this game was a mute for saying something inappropriate.

When the ban time was over (last night) I logged into the game to find this horrific login revelation:

Last activity from 117.xxx.xxx.xxx. That's all I needed to know that this was NOT the USA.

For those of you who might not know, the 117 subnet means that my account was last accessed from Beijing, China.

In addition to this horrible news, I found that someone had slapped on a membership to my account (the 1 month I paid for on 30 March had expired on April 30, but I'd stopped playing before then to focus on finals). When I clicked play, I found my character at blue dragons wearing rune armor, an anti dragon shield, and a whip...

Still in shock, I rushed to my bank to find that ALL my gold was gone, my full Armadyl missing, my millions in items gone, and most sadly all my runecrafting esses and runes were no more.

Now this is where I almost got a heart attack. My stats page showed my ranged (I got 99 about 3 yrs ago, and I had about 17m xp when I stopped playing in April) was now at 94, and my Rcing (was at 90 when I stopped, had been playing more than a year getting it there...) was now at 84. My constitution was reduced, and that's when I almost cried.

I have made an appeal, but I know that Jagex does not prioritize macro bans. However, I'd like to point out that I had no knowledge of my compromised account until I logged in earlier this month. I was also stripped of accomplishments that I had achieved months or years ago prior to the hijacking of my account.

I read the post made by a Jagex Mod about the rollback/resets.

It says that Jagex is 100% sure that macroing did occur.

In my case that is true, but I was not the one who did that.

The macroing was done by someone in China, and I really hope that Jagex mods look at the IP addresses I've played on.

There will be 2 IPs with the most time played on, my home and my college. They are both in the USA.

After losing almost 4+ years worth of effort in a single sweep, I am very sad. This is not how I imagined leaving this game (not that I had any plans of ever quitting permanently).

Sigh... :(

Isn't there some compensation though for this case?

For instance, setting my ranged to 94 from 99 (and 17m xp) seems a bit too much, especially considering that I got 99 ranged more than 3 years ago. Resetting my RC to 84 even though I was playing for more than a year just to get to 90 seems like the worst suffering yet.

I'm really not sure what to do =/ if it is true that Jagex does not prioritize these appeals then please let me know of a way to contact by phone or something.

You can try posting on the official forums in the hijacked account topic. It is very unfortunate that your account was hacked and then used for macroing I would suggest scanning your computer to make sure you were not keylogged. Appeal the offence saying you weren't in control of the account and hope something comes through. I wouldn't feel to confident about Jagex reinstating your stats however. Very unlucky.

Yeah I scanned everything. In April there was some sort of thing that went on with gmail where some accounts (mostly belonging to gamers) were accessed illegally from China.

I was helped by gmail to set up a more stringent security system where I get a passcode as a text that I need to enter to login to my account now. I'm not sure if that isolated incident had anything to do with someone taking my account or what.

I run antivirus/malware scans every 2-3 days. I'm a pretty confident PC user and I have other game accounts that I take care of (WoW, Steam, LoL).

I had my WoW account compromised some time ago when Blizzard released their authenticators. Some guy removed mine and put his authenticator on my account so I was locked out, but Blizzard saw that his IP was from Vietnam.... and that since I'd logged in consistently from the same IP location for almost 5 years they returned my account with nothing lost and everything the way it was before I was hacked. In addition this was done in about a matter of 2 days after calling their phone line.

There is evidence there, but I'm not sure how to explain to Jagex since there is no phone line or anything like that where I can speak with their rep in person.

I have posted an appeal, and I posted some information on their forums in specific threads that deal with these sorts of issues, but the backlog there is huge. Some people estimate it takes as much as 6 months to hear a reply... and in 6 months I'm going to be back in college....

Also as you can see, I love to type and talk in detail. There's only a limited character response that I can fill out for my appeal, so its difficult to relay the intricacies of this matter.

I believe Jagex randomly halves XP in ~10 skills on the account that has been macroing. To be honest you're going to be very lucky if something gets done about it - $5 a month loss is nothing to them compared to the memberships of boatloads of macroers that comes rolling in every month. You should definitely try, but the harsh reality is that it's doubtful anything will happen. Very much worth trying though.

RIP TET

I was kind of looking to get back into RS and maybe hit 94 - 95 rcing by the end of August...

I have WoW but its become pretty stale lately. I'm only playing until we're 7/7 hc t12 then I'm done again... Even though my guild is top 250 world with 3hrs/3days a week its still boring as hell now that most of us only play for the sake of raiding lol.

I don't want to leave Runescape behind as it was the first MMO I ever played. I never expected it to come to this, but I guess its good bye for now until a mod responds to my appeal =/

I'm still not clear as to why they'd reduce the 99 range, 96 hp (constitution as its called now), or 90 rc.... don't games have databases that show all these details? I'm sure if they look right now they'd find that I had these stats LONG before the hacker messed up my account...

You will get an automated reply that declines your appeal and there is definetly no way your getting your stats or money back, Jagex has never done it before and you can bet they aren't about to start. You can completely give up on any hope for that and decide whether you want to play or not because I can gurentee you nothing will happen on jagex's part. At most you'll get some blackmarks removed that really don't matter anyway, but I even highly doubt that since it was obvious your account was being macroed.

I don't want my money back, since I was hacked after my time ran out.

I bought 1 month for $5.99 on March 30th, so I'm guessing it ended on April 30. I got hacked some time in May, and my account was given a ban for minor macroing on July 4, 2011.

If possible, I would love to have the stats and gear I worked so hard for (years of legitimate work...) reverted.

Right now there's like tons of lobsters, tele tabs, and 300 d hides in my bank... the hacker was obviously farming blue dragons for their drops and he sold everything I owned =/

I'm sorry for your loss. I imagine they have a policy of not refunding items, because they're still in the game, but it is a shame about the stats. A lesson to us all, I guess, and if jagex hadn't asked you for your email adress to make your account 'more' secure then I guess this would never have happened :( .

I'm not an efficienado.

I'd not be fussing so much about this if it wasn't for the fact that the stats they rolled back were achieved YEARS ago.

I got 99 range about 3 years ago. I had more than 17 million xp in it (go figure, its my favorite skill!) and I loved doing Armadyl god wars with my friends.

I worked for more than a year to get upto 90 rcing. Now its 84...

There has got to be some algorithm for figuring out punishments, and if IP address is not looked at then I'm not sure if I can agree 100% with the roll back. I've always played from one of two locations: my home and my college dorm. These two locations are about 50 miles apart. I'm a student and not really that rich, nor do I have that much free time just to buy a ticket to fly to China and bot for a month. Its illogical that I'd do something like that and quite honestly I was a little disappointed that this strange login behavior was not picked up as abnormal.

While I don't particularly enjoy comparing two different video game companies, I kind of like the path Blizzard took by sending me an email where I was told of suspicious activity and the addition of the unauthorized authenticator to my account. They KNEW that I could not possibly be in Vietnam. Also, Vietnam and surrounding Asian countries are often the origination points for most online game gold farmers... just stating the facts.

There is one thing I can do, and that is to have patience and await my appeal. I did not bot or do anything like that, so I have nothing to lose (unfortunately if Jagex chooses not to do anything about it then I have nothing to gain either...).

AFAIK, if they temp ban you for botting, they halve ALL your stats and remove all your stackable items. It doesn't really matter if the ban was legitimate or not, in the end you still end up getting [bleep]ed. It really sucks, but that's Jagex.

They now rollback all skills by half, as well as removing a very large chunk of your bank (previously, the punishment was believed to merely be halved cashpile with items untouched, though recently I've heard of cases where cashpile was halved as well as up to 90% of item wealth removed).

Sorry to hear about your case OP, unfortunately there's nothing that can be done. Jagex honestly doesn't give a damn about their customers, nor will they even bother correcting any mistakes (their bot detection system is automated, their appeals system is automated, etc. etc.). A friend of mine who was unjustly banned for macroing submitted an appeal that was not read until after the ban had expired. The appeal was accepted but his rolled stats were not restored (nor were any items given back to him).

Not a mistake. They have made it clear in the past, The levels/money were still gained by cheating regardless of who was in control.

A shame to hear about what happened, but Jagex will not refund your items or XP.

The best thing you can do now is concentrate on keeping your computer secure as well as your account by changing the recovery questions, etc. They gained access to your account somehow, just don't let it happen again.

How does jagex know that you didn't pay someone in China to bot on your account? If they give you your stats back then what does it say about their stance against botters?
