Being Mocked?

So I just recently finished the 6th clue of the Cryptic Fest and I noticed that in said part of the fest and throughout the whole thing there was an underlying theme to the way that out characters presented themselves: whiny. My character repeatedly asked Avalani for a reward and brought up the subject of gold laden trees often as well as complaining about wanting a reward during the 6th clue while talking to Vyvin. Now I do things like the Clue Fest and quests for the fun of them, but I also enjoy a good reward and I know many other players do these things specifically for the rewards. I got the feeling that Jagex made our characters seem like all they wanted was treasure at the end and did it in a way that made are characters seem annoying. Are our characters supposed to resemble ourselves and is Jagex doing this as a way of saying were being whiny and annoying? This is kinda the feeling I got. What do you guys think?

I don't know about whiny or annoying, that's kind of harsh. It seemed more to me like an adventurer wanting to make sure they were going to be rewarded for all their hard work.

Like Joker said in The Dark Knight: "If you're good at something, never do it for free."

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Our player has been whining about wanting rewards since day 1; its a running theme of runescape.

The whole love story quest and wom character is built around the idea and theres heaps of quest our player keeps on about reward etc.

So if your good at being a surgeon, and someone needs to be operated on in public and you happen to have all the equipment with you, you shouldn't help unless they pay you? :wall:

I give props to the many people out there who figured out the clues by themselves, but there are also many people who just Googled the answers. I wouldn't call that hard work.

Of course you shouldn't do surgery in public. It's not a sterile environment and your patient would run a high risk of getting an infection. /missedthepoint :shades:

You know a lot of surgeons that operate for free? Hell even if you operated for free and saved their life, they could sue you out of all your cash for doing it without family/spouse consent and if there was any complications caused by your surgery their lawyers would make you pay for that too. Normally you would just call a hospital, have them picked up, they get operated on, and they pay the bill at the end.

Ok guys, the surgeon thing was just an example. I could have said "What if you were really good at mowing lawns and an old lady with little walking ability and little money needed her lawn mowed?" That, of course, would have gotten the reply that she should take out a loan on a riding mower.

What I was talking about was being an adventerous questing hero, not just a hired hand. Does Batman or Spiderman get paid? I mean they get hot babes all the time which could be considered "getting paid" but they don't charge people when they save them from a fire etc. I just think I'd rather have my player as someone who does stuff cuz he's a good guy, and Jagex's dialouge is not only calling us whiny, but insulting what I want my player to be.

I will admit that I hadn't completed the ccf when I made that post.

I'm going to back peddle a little bit and say that when my character was talking to Sir Vyvin she was pretty darn whiny. She even looked like she would start crying at one point, like a spoiled child who was told 'no'. Normally, yes, we do sound a bit mercenary when completing quests, and I have no problem with that, but this one did go a bit overboard.

I've never watched that show, but that clip is definitely relevant.

I do think Jagex makes the players look a bit like pansies at times during quests and other interactions with NPCs. Poetic lisence/justice? Maybe so.

I've found that in general if an event is available for everyone, my character will typically act in the wimpiest way possible. The only times my character acts like an adventurer of her experience is supposed to act is during the grandmaster quests, in situations a wimp wouldn't survive to reach. Jagex probably thinks it's better for a few experienced characters to act like noobs occasionally than for a large amount of noobs to act like real heroes.

As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapabale of solving approaches zero.

Ensure you are not a social situation.

I'd say this makes sense the players adventurer credentials shines through more in higher quests, so anyone playing through in a logical ordering does progress in personality.

Obviously though when new noob things arise those way past them get the noob personality bk
