Also, something I've learned from working in retail that's actually pretty obvious if you think about it: stores have sales because it benefits them. You know that item you want on sale? That's really popular and lots of other people will buy it? That you will probably buy anyways? Protip: that will never go on sale. I seriously wonder tho, how many of the deals are actual deals - vs stuff like, first X people get something awesome and 10X people show up. (Those just sound like very effective loss leaders to me.)
