But if you were the Evil Chicken, would you not prefer to chase players around the place to get some experience in the job before attacking the Wise Old Man? I don't think you would want to end up as the WOM's dinner.

Come on Postie Pete, where are ya? I somehow think that goblin burned this month's bag by accident. Never trust a goblin to do your dirty work. :P

7:00pm what time zone?

GMT.

and what world?

World 7. However, may I add that World 7 has serious lag issues. I logged in around two hours ago and could barely move. We'll try once again tonight, and if most of us start to lag, I think we'll have to decide on a different world- if that's okay with KCHughes of course.

and thats saturday right?

Yep, today.

Oh, and Trobigod has completed the quest. He didn't say there was anything WOM related though.

I was late to the last meeting and it still lagged a lot. I'm thinking World 7 isn't such a good world to go to, or any of the other low numbered worlds. I'm looking at the world list now and World 106 looks very empty. It's pretty much lag free right now, I think we should try it just for this week. Is that OK with everyone?

Yep, that sounds fine with me anyway. I hope everyone gets that, so we don't get people logging in on the wrong world.

I guess we didn't find out much in this meeting, other than that the "death" symbol might be somewhere in the new Dorgeshuun area. Maybe the new quest in Varrock coming out this month will shed some more light on WOM, as well as the postbag coming out soon.

Taken from another thread. The author then said they were turned into soul runes. Life runes used to exist! Also, isn't the soul the part of you that goes to heaven in the Christian religion? Well, life runes were apparently changed to soul runes. The WOM may want to cause Judgement Day, so people's souls will either go to heaven or hell- possible link with soul runes! The soul runes may be able to summon those long lost! The WOM cannot defeat souls! It's perfect!

EDIT: No, we didn't make much progress, but that meeting was sooo funny. However, there wasn't much to talk about, since the postbag still has yet to arrive. Once it comes, we'll likely spend a long time speculating.

KCHughes, I wish to sue you for indirectly attempting to kill me via too much strain on the heart induced by laughter. Either somehow remove that '100% free dating!' advert or you will lose 20,000gp. Please, the room is flooding with my tears of laughter!

Well, as for confusing the enemy, leave me to the job. They don't call me the most insane player in RuneScape for nothing!

Yes we will. I remember hearing about life runes from RSC, but I've forgotten about them. Anyway, I'm here to share two inspirational sites with the group:

WOM will be defeated

WOMDA is mighty!

*crosses fingers for postbag*

Stupid ads!

Anyway, nice um...links? The Wise Old Man will be defeated and I will take him to the Edgeville Dungeon stretching him out on the rack while the skeletons cut choice pieces of flesh to feed to the rats!

I'm evil

Can you add information that various people have collected and make a credits list on the main post?

As for credits, some of the theories in the first thread have the names of contributors by them, but I'm way too lazy to read through this entire thread and find every piece of information ever contributed.

If you did that, the post would be way too long. So many theories have been flying around this thread, it's impossible to keep up with them all. So, we are basically focusing on the most likely ideas (the current one being the WOM wanting to become a god- oh, and KC, you forgot to give yourself at least credit for that  ).

Anyhoo, no sign of monsieur Pete. I have a feeling he's going to come this saturday, for some reason. Right on time for the next meeting. Hopefully.

I'm back! anyway... I've seen the developments... but I can't make it to the meetings (1:00 here) and I've got a hunting goal I needed to work on... man...

What was up with those movies? How big are those things... that had better not mess with me band width by about 50% (like that stinking maplestory did) anyway... liked the music...

I've done Tower of life, its very good with the cutscenes... homonculus... what does that mean in most conspiracies Darklinux? also... I am heading into the tower now... will describe any life symbols I see. One thing of note... the Homonculus has one big eye (there is a small other) connection to that symbol with a similar look?

Welcome back comrade! In soviet russia, WOM posts about YOU!!!

Ok, life runes and this symbol...acient rites in these stones.. Guthix made all the runes first and the acient mages learned how to create then... So this could be an altar for creation of life runes.. Every rune got impowered by their elemental power.. So the runes have the power of life? Umm.. Necromancy?

Anyways, that about trhe Wise old man defeated made me laught, but not much, just in computer life ok ok.. I said "lol" in my real life (yup that was soo freak) but well.

People, donnot be evil with me, please Kchughes, next time post date and hour of the next meeting so i can assist, BUT IN THE FIRST POST OF THE THREAD, that would be nice :). Anyways, the world 7 is the lagguest in the earth, i would suggest world 61 (my f2p home world) because i even live very far away from this location and it goes 100% quick.

Thanks and err..whatever!

If you wish to see the data I'm collecting, be my guest, otherwise, just click the "Quote".

There's a lot of stuff, so why not click it?

I strongly suggest it for your own good.

House : 2 degrees, 50 minutes North 20 degrees, 20 minutes East.

Bank : 2 degrees, 33 minutes North 20 degrees, 22 minutes East.

Tower : 0 degrees, 3 minutes North 20 degrees, 54 minutes East.

What ya mean by damage?

oldmanwall2sq.png

Hope i helped..

Carson

The damage to the wall just happened, there was no number to go along with it.

-The amount of damage the old man did to the wall of the bank (watch the surveillance film)

there was no number, if you mean damage to bankers, around 24 and with a spell 44..

well, this is getting interesting. i went and found both of the books and from the strange books comment section, we can infer that the M.O.M. raided the wizards tower, stole a bunch of runes, then robbed the bank. we can also assume that the thing on his desk (i couldnt get a good look at it) is either some kind of blimp or some other object (a bomb, maybe??)and that at some point, its going to become an important object.

what intrigues me most is how you believe you can link the coordinates to those places and the damage he dealt to the guards with anything in his books. maybe in the graph examples in the third chapter? im interested in hearing your thought processes in this matter.

My findings so far:

If you draw a line from the Wizard's Tower to the Draynor Bank, the Wise Old Man's telescope lies directly on the line. The equation of this line is: y=-4.682x+97.896. If you continue the line toward the south east, the line intersects with the dead center of the Bandit Camp in the desert. I can't remember much about the Bandit Camp when I was a member, but aren't they Zaros followers?

Anyway, imagine a line going from the Wizard's Tower, to the Draynor Bank, to the Wise Old Man's house. Now, imagine a line perpendicular to this line, which interects the Tower-Bank line at the Wise Old Man's house. The equation of this line is: y=.2136x-1.51. Continue this line in both directions and it intersect with the north-central portion of the Digsite (the Zaros altar?) and the Wizard's Guild in Yanile. So, the man is probably affiliated with Zaros somehow, and is part of some conspiracy against wizards. I think he'll attack the Wizard Guild after he hits the Tower.

Take the two equations I showed above and rearrange them into standard form and you get this:

x+.2136y=20.91

x-4.682y=7.07

The two bolded numbers are the solutions. Change them into Degree/Minute/Second form and you get this

20 degrees, 54 minutes

7 degrees, 4 minutes

Now, this is where I need some additional help. I need another memeber to find these two locations:

1. 20 degrees 54 minutes N and 7 degrees 4 minutes E

2. 7 degrees 4 minutes N and 20 degrees 54 minutes E

I believe one of these two coordinates will somewhat answer the mystery around the Wise Old Man. Thanks for your help again.

Well, I grabbed a spade and went to the Draynor Manor spot. I looked around, dug a little, and...nothing. So my guess is that the solutions to the two equations have nothing to do with it. I can do one of two things:

1. Wait for Jagex to update the W.O.M. storyline,

2. Look for more clues.

With so many interesting connection to Zaros, it is most probable that the answer is somewhere in the desert. As for my hypothetical lines, I have much reason to believe that the Digsite, the Bandit Camp, and the Wizard Guild will soon be very key in the story. I mean, if Jagex has enough time to manufacture that surveillance video, then they probably would've at least made an interesting story behind it, right?

I'll hold on to my data for awhile until I get another lead.

Using logic and reasoning (yay for Philosophy classes):

Zamorakian mages invaded the old Wizard's Tower and tried to steal the secrets of runecrafting in the Third or Fourth age. They couldn't get the secrets, but they burnt the Tower down. If you read the comments in one of the books, the W.O.M. says that he needs more runes, so he'll have to get them from the Wizard's Tower. If he were really that wise, couldn't he just use Runcrafting to get all the runes he wants? He obviously doesn't know much about it, so he wants to invade the Tower again to steal the Runecrafting secrets, and finish the job that the Zamorakian mages failed at so long ago. Plus, he'll probably burn the Tower down when he's through.

Well i am a p2p player and here is some information regarding runecrafting

when you do the mini quest that allows you to use the abyss (a place used for quick runecrafting) the mage of zammorak is clueless on runecrafting and that why he has you do the whole orb thing so he can get runes for zammorak etc. So the WOM probably wouldnt know about this. But as you learn in the mini quest thing the mages at the Wizards tower are connected to saradomin and as mentioned early the WOM used sara strike so maybe he is connected with the mages at the guild. Maybe a rogue sara mage?

but why can you kick his bed i dont think thats there without a reason

In p2p, you can get a miniquest from him where he asks you to kill the monster under his bed.

Well, Kalphites are mighty close to the bandit camp (kinda), and they are also in the desert...

i'm currently f2p, but i highly doubt jagex would put anyting out there. I doubt it because they don't seem to put things out before they decide to update. When they do, most everyone will be able to see it.

I have a feeling this all connects to runescape history. As we all have heard before, History is destined to repeat itself. I think the Wise Old Man, a saradomin follower, will have something to do with the original runescape history, like when zaros was defeated or something. I'm not sure, but that's my thoughts.

I don't understand something tho...

If the Wizard tower is devoted to saradomin's secrets etc, and the wise old man is saradomin's follower, why would he attack his own god's tower??

I hope this plot unfolds a little quicker. I can't wait to see what the real plot is. Also, i want to know who will take over wom's job if he dies/gets removed. I'm guessing it's Miss Schism. Any1 else have a thought?

Unfortunately with no major threat to the settlements the people began to become decadent, with many of them becoming dissatisfied with the way things were run.

This in my belief is the reason why cults of Zamorak began to spring up around the world.

Possibly the best known event of this time was the treachery of the Zamorakian mages in destroying the mighty wizards tower - the destruction of the tower certainly seems to mark a turning point for the worse in the fortunes of mankind, and an end to the 'Golden Age'.

This event is covered in greater detail in various other accounts, and in contradictory ways, but there is clear evidence that there was definitely a wizards tower that was destroyed by fire.

Nobody seems to contradict the story that it was caused by Mages following the order of Zamorak, although the motives for this act are slightly unclear beyond any religous cause.

his act was followed by a massive backlash against Zamorakian followers, who had been tolerated (if not exactly welcomed) prior to the destruction of the wizards tower.

A number of holy crusades by Saradomin followers (such as the White Knights of Falador) were waged against all those suspected to hold Zamorakian beliefs.

The massive feeling of betrayal by Zamorakians in fact still continues to modern times, with very few areas that I have visited acknowledging or allowing Zamorakian symbols or worship.

Might that help a little? It explains a bit about the wizards tower and zamorak destroying it... I'll get my spade and dig through some more things...

remember my father, a smith of the highest standing, first telling me as a boy that a Man from the North had madest a discovery of... well, there are some secrets I fear I must take to my grave in case they fall into the wrong hands.

Yet I will say this; this man of the North had found something of great importance that didst require a great deal of studying, and had bought some paltry supplies such as hammers and chisels from my father

which is how he knew of it.

I think of doric when i see a man in the north... but he was a dwarf... who else would buy chisels and hammers?

could this be why jagex changed the doric's quest a little? To make it suitable for W.O.M storyline?

Okay, so i was wrong. As i continued reading, i learned...

let us just say, that this man from the North hadst discovered Magick.

I continued reading...

was not the only one who hadst come to see his discovery either. A group of people, perhaps 50 in number from all over this realm, and of all ages and tribes hadst heard similar rumours, and as consumed by curiosity as I hadst come to pledge ourselves to assist in discovering the secrets of this discovery.I cannot describe to you the awe and wonder we all felt when first the man from the north demonstrated the power he had discovered...

To strike a foe with a mighty gust of wind at will! This feat is almost commonplace nowadays, and seen in brawls all over the lands, but back then...

it was as though we hadst gained the power of a god!

And as we trained, and studied, our powers grew stronger, and more unbelievable... I saw men moving objects with just the power of their mind, others turning useless items into the purest gold!

ut these skills and powers learned by those who had chosen to learn from this man from the north were not the greatest discovery that we didst make.

It was discovered that we couldst take these powers and magicks, and bind them into solid objects which we called rune stones, for each hadst been marked with the rune symbol of the magick which we hadst bound unto it.

So they just found out about talismans and runes

and lastly....

These stones couldst then be given to someone who hadst not studied or trained with our group - and the magickal energies bound within them couldst then be released at will!

We all agreed that the discovery and the magicks it had allowed us, and our ability to store these magicks in compressed form as stones, each carefully marked with what magickal energy had been stored within it so as to avoid accidental expenditures, required much investigation, far more investigation than was possible with just the small group that we were... so we vowed to all return to our homelands and spread the message of our discoveries, so that we couldst gain more followers to assist us in our research.

That's one of the first quests we did. The... forget the name, but where we're the messanger running around and finally have access to rune ess and runecrafting. That's the quest where they found the power of rune ess...unless they knew it b4 and lost it to the zamorokean mages who destroyed the wizard tower and now after a couple years, we have retrieved to information again...

I discovered the plausible coordinates of the WOM's house, the Wizards tower and the bandit camp:

WOM house-

2 deg, 59 min north

20 deg, 13 min east

to

2 deg, 47 min north

20 deg, 29 min east

Wizard Tower-

0 deg, 12 min north

20 deg 40 min east

to

0 deg 17 min south

21 deg, 10 min east

Note on tower- 0 deg, 0 min runs through tower, just north of table

Bandit camp-

5 deg, 15 min south

22 deg, 20 min east

to

6 deg, 15 min south

23 deg, 30 min east

Ok for those that hate a bunch of numbers, not for you, but those that want to find out what this could mean, figure it out. Note the two coordinates for each place, that is because the first is the Northwestern most point of said location, and the second is the southeastern most point.

Some non-numerical info:

Well I don't know if any of the following has anything to do with the WOM, but I feel like saying it because someone might make sense out of it:

WOM mentions the following places he's been to:

-Brimhaven dungeon

-Entrana

-Desert including Menaphos and Sophanem

WOM's bookcase downstairs has a cat statue on the top that faces due west, which if you follow it goes to the entance to Crandor dungeon, also furthur on, just above the Necromancer's tower

WOM trimmed his sardomin armour gold! or got someone else to

WOM has also added gold to nearly everything in his house

WOM has a book about elder dragons, perhaps he has one...

WOM has a pirate map, but i can't disern what exactly it's a map of

WOM had an odd object on his desk, with some resemblence to a laser

The damage WOM delt:

15

11

12

instant desinigration, only ashes remain

44, then dissapear

The following people were killed:

elfinlocks

1337sp34kr

qutiedoll

purepker895

cool mom227

Note that all of those people don't exist!

Bankers not allowed to discuss case on the arrest of WOM

WOM knows of the Lost city, and even that it's nearby

WOM has read about abyss

WOM knows where the dwarven mine is, and the entrence

WOM knows of Keldagrim

WOM knows of Taverly dungeon, says it's good for training...hmmm maybe it where he got his magics honed

WOM knows the jungles of Karamja

WOM knows Tai Bwo Wannai Village

WOM knows of Shilo Village

WOM mentions wild belonging to Zammy and Entrana to Sara

WOM mentions in wild there is the mage arena, says "where you can learn to summon the power of Saradomin himself"

When you ask about most powerful monsters he says the King Black dragon, and that it in a cave deep in the wild

Note of connection: he says KBD has breath that can poison you, freeze you, or incinerate you where you stand. perhaps this has something to do with the spell he used to instantly disinagrate the people to dust (or more specifically ashes)

WOM mentions the Queen of the Kalphites, and that it can block attacks using prayer like human can

Says about Shaikahan in Karamja

WOM has a globe of gielinor, that by the way now has gold- note I have no idea what it is, I even searched tip.it for the answer

I also looked around in the Bandit camp, but they wouldn't talk to me and I found nothing interesting.

Then I looked around in the Wizard's tower:

Exterior: just some heather and torches and trees, nothing else really bizarre

Ground Floor: Why is there three log spawns?

Bookcases: found nothing of interest

Boot respawn? What up with that?

Most interesting part of the wizard tower: A demonic symbol on the wall...why is that there?

Downstairs: Bookcases: still nothing of interest

Just some chickens...wait. Chickens?

Nothing in the drawers

why is there a skull down here?

Second floor:

Just the absent minded wizard and the split-bark armour wizard

Also a demon head mounted on the wall

Top floor:

Most interesting part: A lesser demon in a cage!

Also the Wizard Grayzag, but you can't talk to him...

So the only out of the ordinary things at the tower:

The demonic symbol

Wizard Grayzag

And Lesser Demon

Lots of info there, take it as you want to.

FlaK you are a genious! She DOES say something about what happened, she was minding her own buisness, she heard a scream, came over to see what was going on and she was in Faldor! But she didn't see the WOM teleother her because the door was in the way. I checked the video, and she is telling the truth.

Also, Diango doesn't say anything about the bank robbery.

i saw that movie and i have a question about it:

in the beginning (when he leaves his house) there is a man who says 'huh'

and sees that person in front of the door being killed..

Does anybody know the name of that person? maybe he really exists...

And did you know you can give runes to W.O.M?

i gave 50 of airs fires earths waters minds and body, he doesn't accept others. But he just takes them, nothing more...

Nice topic...

Anyway, I did a thorough clue-search this weekend and yesterday, went through some of the old God Letters, went to a bunch of F2P-accessible locations that the WOM mentions, but I'm pretty sure I didn't turn up anything.

Also took pictures of the maps in the WOM's house. There are three different ones, but I could only identify one, and it's the Digsite. Obvious, since he's affiliated with Zaros. The only two P2P locations that I think might offer some clues are Zanaris and the Entrana Dungeon.

The only thing to do now is wait for the update. The "group consensus" is all right here, so if we're right about the WOM, give yourselves a big "w00t!"

House : 2 degrees, 50 minutes North 20 degrees, 20 minutes East.

Bank : 2 degrees, 33 minutes North 20 degrees, 22 minutes East.

Tower : 0 degrees, 3 minutes North 20 degrees, 54 minutes East.

The cỏ̮̦̉rdinates of the center of the locations are:

House: 2 degrees, 52 minutes North; 20 degrees, 19 minutes East

Bank: 2 degrees, 33 minutes North; 20 degrees, 23 minutes East

Tower: 0 degrees, 1 minute South; 20 degrees, 54 minutes East

The cỏ̮̦̉rdinates of the entrances (inside, so right when you entered them) are:

House: 2 degrees, 48 minutes North; 20 degrees, 15 minutes East

Bank: 2 degrees, 39 minutes North; 20 degrees, 23 minutes East

Tower: 0 degrees, 9 minutes North; 20 degrees, 54 minutes East

Can make quite a difference when calculating other locations 8)

Edit: typo

isn't the statue in falador near the general store a god statue?

he points in a strange direction

also, isn't the statue east of varrock, near the earth crafting temple a gods statue? dunno where he points to...

There are a bunch of Saradomin statues in the White Knights' Castle, they point off somewhere.

Just a thought

W.O.M Accepts some basic runes

when you see the summoner you see some other mages standing around

If you kill them you get those runes

Maybe the Summoner is Zaros and those mages are his army..

And he needs runes to summon them

loads of fire rune for the fire mages and so on

If you kill them they turn into ash because they are ancient

They are already dead and thats because they have no Bones

and if you kill a lesser you get ashes too..

and there is a lesser locked away in the wizards tower....

The tape showed him killing most Bankers, including some people, including somebody whit a blue Party hat, on the tape you can see him picking it up and wielding it, he was doing somekind of Cloudy/static attack, it looked like Green lightning which turned its victims into skelletons (sp?).

To bad you can't confront him whit the tape.

wow your guys imaginations are amazing. It would be sweet if your assumptions were right. Just want to point out in the vid that the people the Wom killed turned to skeleton and then to ashes. Same way the elemental mages near Malignius Mortifier do when you kill them. Hope it helps

just had a look around draynor talking to people and loong around bank from angles and i found something new out

try cutting the tree directly west of the bank and u go into a convesation with a guy hiding in the tree. you can see that the colour of his legs looks a lot like the bank peoples legs!!!!!

he says hes observing MOM

Yes, but he just talks to you. He has no real significance.

IF you give him stew, he gives u 20 gp. This has now been brought up.

okay ive read this whole thread carefully for almost 2 hours now lol. I wanna say good job to all of you.

heres my idea---

It seems as if he is trying very hard to try and find something. In his house there is alot of treasures maps on the floor and walls. It looks as if a couple of them have alot of ocean around the circled part, What could those be? I think it takes us back to the first idea with the coordintes

I think he is trying to find elder dragons and summon them to get revenge on somebody?--thus the reason for the book in his house about elder dragons. They might be hidden somehow under the ocean floor or something.

Summoning is new so he will probley have to use alot or runes thus the stealing at the bank and even more the trying to get runes or possibly runecrafting powers at the tower.

hope this helps

Here's my nickel:

All of those useless Mysterious Statues you see lying around all over Runescape point to Entrana (the Mysterious Statues are the big headed ones, one is a little west of the Port Sarim grocery shop). The WOM has been to Entrana, right? Plus, I think if you find out where they all point to, it's the Entrana Dungeon. Also, there are the same number of Mysterious Statues as there are runecrafting alters (including blood).

As for the WOM hitting 44 with Saradomin Strike, I believe as he is a Wise Old Man, he has learned to perfect the technique, or he's using Charge lol.

And my friend said the WOM told him to kill the thing under his bed. He said it looked like a mutated kalphite. I think he was lying, but it's worth looking into.

I think the strange item on the WOM's desk is some kind of mind control device, making the WOM do these things. I've just read this whole thing and it hasn't been suggested, even though it was my first thought when i began looking into this thing.

The old man knows about runecrafting. He once asked me to bring me rune essence as one of his mini missions.

In the new quest, you have to go near there for a grave and get the Draynor skull. If you examine it it says "I shoudn't joke, this is a grave matter" and the gravestone thing says "Here lies Guy, who told a lie and was swung form the gallows high" I tried giving it to WOM, nothing, I tried getting multiples, nope  I wonder why Necromancer needs it? I can't get the pics from 1st page, but that is where to look for them.

Finally, a semi-good connection! There is a gallows up in the northern part of the Draynor area. I've wondered why that was there. If I were to make a hypothesis knowing this, I'd say that the WOM and the necromancer are in some kind of alleigance to summon something really big. But it may just be a pseudo-connection.

On the video you will see him doing Saradomin strike, he also has the SAME staff in his house in a corner, also his charts and telescope point to the wizard tower, Them wizards pretty much study Saradomins art.

So I pretty much think the old guy is allied whit the Wizards at the Wizards tower, for what reason he hijacked a bank near his house is a know for us.

In his bookcases you can also find a book, which had something to do about Hiorectel (sp?) ancients, formally known as just Ancient Magics or just plain magic, to bad you can't despise the video to him to make him confess something.

Also, why the hell is that lady on a chair being such a gossip, if the Old man and that same person came in draynor in the same time they could be related as husband and wive or family.

You guys, how about a theory like this..... The old man is a dragon, one of the elder dragons! One of the books in his house is on the folk lore of a different race of dragons that existed in the world before anything else. It would explain how he arrived with nothing and has been hoarding treasure in his house (dragons are known to hoarde) and wouldn't even spare a coin to donate to the woman who came to his door. And he is trimming stuff in his house in gold...well maybe Jagex will soon be introducing gold dragons into the game or perhaps he is the only one?? Also did anyone notice that the watchman who came to arrest him was level 253 ?? Aren't powerful dragons in the game around level 200? Anyway I'm sure the story would be even bigger than this because the old man would have obviously been sent to do whatever he is up to by some God, Zaros or whatever the case may be. Just my two cents worth.

The Full Confession

you:i want to ask you about your hat.

wom:why, thank you! I rather like it myself.

you:You stole it off the woman in the bank! you stole all this valuable stuff too!

wom:Stole it? How could you possible think i did such a thing?

you:I saw you robbing the bank! you killed all those people!

wom:deary me, (your name), your imagination is running wild! What could make you think you saw me do that?

you:I've seen a security recording that shows you robbing the bank. the bank's guard showed me it.

wom:You've seen the bank's security recording?

wom:Tut tut tut... oh well, at least you'll never be able to tell the bank about me. they'll never listen

you:So you're just going to get away with it?

wom:That's my plan, yes

you:but that's... well, it's WRONG!

wom:Wrong? WRONG? i'll tell you what's wrong!

wom:I've spent my life travelling the world, doing quests for people, saving lives, saving villages from terrifying monsters and all that sort of thing.

wom:Now i'm old, and where do i have to live? in this freezing old house next to a pig-sty, with a bunch of yobs outside who can't keep their hands off the market stalls! What sort of reward is that?

wom:so don't talk to me about right or wrong!

you:Maybe someone should talk to you about right and wrong...

wom:bah!

you:hmmph!

wom:Now that you've got that off your chest, would you like to ask me about anything else?

can only be heard once on an account, after viewing the security recording which costs 50gp after the first viewing

When you ask Ms. Schism about his hat, she says he used to have a scruffy old black hat. Is this a hint that is a dark wizard?

When he was first introduced, he had a black scholar's hat, like the ones you wear at a graduation ceremony.

Another thing I would like to point out:

If you look in the W.O.M. telescope it is pointed towards a symbol of an eye on the wizards tower. I think the eye may be a clue that W.O.M. has something to do with the desert.

It looks alot like the Egyptian eye of horus. (aka the "solar eye")

eye7bt.jpg

There is a myth about the sun god Horus and his enemy Set (the sun eating god of darkness) in which a cosmic battle takes place.

Much like the god wars between saradomin and zamorak.

Another interesting bit, Ichtlarin, the Devourer, Armadyl, and Zaros all have Egyptian counterparts.

In the wizards tower there is a statue of what appears to be a pheonix bird.

bird0bq.jpg

For anyone who has done the golem quest, you know you must visit the desert pheonix and take one of its feathers.

But why would the wizards tower have one of these statues?

And why does the W.O.M. have a statue of a cat?

Perhaps they are gods of some kind?

Since there seems to be alot of ties to Ancient Egypt I misewell mention this. In Ancient Egypt Cats were sacred and were the guardians of the Underworld.

The wise old man doesn't seem to like the sphinx very much...

When he mentions "false gods" he is talking about the cat goddess Icthlarin, whom you help in Icthlarins little helper quest.

Sprites: That feline statue you've got on your bookshelf there - I'm sure I saw something like that when I was in Sophanem.

Wom: I've always liked to collect little trinkets to remind me of the time when my life was more - ah - exciting.

Sprites: So you've spoken to the Sphinx, then?

Wom: *laughing* Spoken to a sphinx, you say? My dear young man, you can't possibly be serious!

Sprites: What do you mean?

Wom: Ha ha ha! The people who live deep in the shifting sands of the desert will often tell travellers tall tales of strange beasts, but that doesn't mean any of it's remotely true!

Sprites: But I've met the Sph...

Wom: Please adventurer, there is nothing to be gained by interfering in matters you do not understand.

Even if such a creature were to exist...

Sprites: ... which it does...

Wom: EVEN IF SUCH A CREATURE WERE TO EXIST it would be terribly dangerous for you to get involved in its business.

I have heard of terrible things happening to travellers in that land, and I would not wish for you to be dragged into anything like that.

Indeed, I have heard of adventurers doing the most shameful and blasphemous deeds believing themselves to be acting on behalf of some false god!

Sprites: Hmmm?

WOM: So please do not speak to me of this matter again. Now, I believe I was telling you of my adventurous youth...

Although in the digsite quest, when we learn about zaros. An ancient text refers to Zamorak as "the pretender" because he was once a human before becoming a god.

At this point, I don't think we'll know FOR SURE who created runescape.

As both Guthix and Saradomin claim they created Gielinor. (Which by the way Saradomin uses Guthix's name for runescape, Gielinor) Saradomin also admits that Guthix and several "unknown" gods ruled runescape before he came to this realm.

You can read more about the gods of runescape here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RuneScape_gods

Anyway, back on topic: Any thoughts why the WOM gets mad when you talk about the sphinx?

EDIT:The statue in the old man's house is of Amascut the cat goddess, not Icthlarin; who is the god of the dead.

Amascut is a goddess of destruction and is often referred to as The Devourer. As her name suggests, she is inclined towards the destruction of everything in existence. Her greatest fear is of her former followers the cats which retain fractions of her former power and still hold a desire for revenge against her.

I think Amascut may symbolize Zaros somehow, because Zaros also had "former followers" that turned on him and probably have some of Zaros' original power. I'm sort of led to believe that the WOM is a follower of Amascut and Zaros and thus has a gret potential for destruction...maybe? Could this mean that Zaros and Amascut are in allegiance?

The sphinx is probably Amascut, and the WOM is trying to scare you away from Sphinxes because of their great power in the form of Amascut that he wants for himself. That's my theory at the moment.

Out on the edge of the known world, the Piscatoris Fishing Colony stands on the brink of disaster. Angry sea trolls are emerging from the sea and attacking the colonists, preventing them from harvesting the valuable monkfish that live in those waters. A highly experienced adventurer will be needed to drive back the trolls for good.

The Colony's director, Herman Caranos, has a particular adventurer in mind: the notoriously amoral Wise Old Man of Draynor Village (allegations of his involvement in a spectacular bank robbery have never been substantiated).

If you're in the mood for a bit of combat, jump on the boat on the west side of the Gnome Stronghold, speak to the Colony's director and prepare to fight alongside the Wise Old Man as he embarks on his final adventure - his swan song

he probubly waers his gold plated sara armour!

i don't know if someone has already posted this, but there seems to be something with skulls as well. As joecool280 said, you dig up a skull atthe Draynor Manor longitude/latitude. There's a skull in the basement of Wizard's tower. So there's something to do with Zaros, possibly something with skulls, and something to do with Wizards. Once again, someone might have already posted this, but I'm too lazy to read 17 pages.

Sry for bumping, but there is new info to discuss on the WOM, and there is no point in making a new thread.

Dear Wise old man,

Why did you rob the bank in Draynor village? Why didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t you teleport somewhere like Varrock or Falador or Edgeville? Also, WHAT DID YOU DO WIITH ELFINLOCKS? Give her back her bloo party hat! That wasn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t nice! Go to your room! Also, what the hack is under that bed? Heck, it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s fun to kick, so jagex, don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t you dare mess with that! I thought it was something like a lesser demon from something it said, and also, could you hurry up with destroying the wizard̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s tower again? I want that bridge to blow up of dynamite! Why can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t you blow it up with that Saradomin staff? Why am I asking so many questions?

Your almost-banned and currently muted criminal hater,

Marioman318

Dear Marioman318,

I gather from your letter that you have been quite assiduous in your studies of my little house and my recent activities. Well, my dear chap, I shall start by thanking you for your interest and enthusiasm! It gives me a great sense of satisfaction to see that the world has not forgotten me since I retired from my adventurous life.

In the course of my little escapade in the bank, your friend Elfinlocks was unfortunate enough to get in my way and I was forced to incapacitate her. Now you have written me a letter demanding that I right her wrongs. However, perhaps it has not occurred to you that, even if I were to accede to your curt request, it would not benefit you in the slightest!

Allow me to elaborate. In the distant past, when I travelled the world solving people's problems and saving those in distress just as you do today, I held the hope that my efforts would be appreciated and met with appropriate gratitude. But what did I get? When I grew old and the time came for me to retire, I found myself forced into this poxy shack in Draynor Village, neighboured by a pigment-obsessed hag and a 'navigator' whose prowess at knitting exceeds his ability to steer a boat. Not to mention the constant flow of unashamed thieves through the village market! (The hideous harpy who sits gawking through my window will gladly show you a picture of the house as it was when I first came here.) My meek and placid nature notwithstanding, I realised that if I did not take my reward for myself, I would receive nothing at all. So I took up my trusty staff and headed for the bank. I am sure you would be likewise frustrated beyond belief if you were to dedicate a lifetime's effort to the service of others and receive no reward.

Now, let me return to your other questions. I chose the Draynor Village bank because it is convenient and local. Rural branches of banks are useful, and we should make full use of them. Otherwise there may come a day when the Bank of RuneScape closes its outlying branches and the Council has them transformed into trendy wine-bars.

I am indeed mystified by the matter of that creature under my bed. Many times I have persuaded willing folk to rid me of the nuisance, but always it returns. I suspect it to be a subterranean creature forced out of its natural habitat by those ridiculously attired xenophobes who call themselves HAM. On account of its incessant snoring at night, it is not welcome to seek asylum under my bed, and I shall continue to send people to deal with it until it ceases to trouble me.

Finally we come to the question of the Wizards' Tower. As you may have noticed, I have been training my telescope on it for quite some time now. I have not yet finalised my plans, but I do find myself terribly short of runes these days, and I feel that a short excursion to the Tower might solve my problem permanently. But I doubt I will make any move for a considerable time; the powers of Wizard Traiborn are not to be underestimated.

I thank you again for your letter.

Strength through wisdom,

*D.

It seems as if the Wise Old Man might go up against Wizard Trailborn eventually, that would be cool. What do you think will happen, another quest? A story? Something else interesting?

Wow, glad to see this again. :P

Anyway, another Tipiter and I have done a little more research, and he (joecool280) actually took my coordinates and laid them out on a map of Runescape:

wommapvg9.th.jpg

Looks pretty good. I noticed one line going through Dragontooth island way over on the eastern side (WOM several times talking about seeing all varieties of dragons). He added a bunch of other lines between points and such, one goes clean through the center of the Mage Arena (Saradomin Staff, of course), another goes right through the middle of the center island in Castle Wars (no significane, I don't think...), through the Void Knights outpost and Pest Control area, and through Lunar Isle and the Pirate place nearby.

Then, we managed to find this: http://www.zybez.net/tomes.php?id=44. From a book in the fishing colony. It doesn't answer a lot, but it's very insightful.

Thanks for reminding me about my thread!

ok i may be completely off on this, but if u search the bookcases and find the strange book, there is "Graphical solution of mathematical problems" and it only gives the equation "X + 3Y = 5" or y = 1/3x +5/3. maybe if u graph this line it may help.

and if u read the readers comments, he doesn't really like the wizards at the wizards tower because they won't give him runes.

Another thing, that is off topic, is that it may be related to the penguins dressed up as a sheep. Maybe it was summoned because i haven't seen any penguins anywhere else

Also maybe he has some connection to the mysterious old man in the random event

[Edit] Can someone translate from Latin to English "vidi volui mihi est" for me cause its in the readers notes and i recognize "est" meaning "is" in Latin

"Vidi volui mihi est" means "I saw it, I took it, it is mine"

Considering the WOM is a Hero of some sort, he would not be affiliated with followers of Evil or Chaos. I know what he did at the Bank was quite Evil, but his affiliation is still to Saradomin (otherwise Saradomin would not lend him his power, as we see i casted Saradomin Strike in the Bank). Then again, Saradomin himself is quite a hypocrite, so maybe he doesn't frown upon the WOM's actions so much; but considers it a reward for the WOM's services.

The recent letters, however; show the WOM pondering at his desk over a minature version of the Wizard's Tower. Perhaps an attack on the Wizard's Tower is imminent? Hopefully, a quest to go along with it: an F2P quest? Well, they did release a lot about the WOM to F2P, so unless this is another attempt to tempt F2Pers into getting members... wait, they do that all the time...

How do we know that the bank is not a source of evil? I mean, the guards could have been vampires in disguise (with Count Draynor living nearby), so maybe he was doing this to help Saradomin rid the world of Zamorak's evil. So, maybe he went to kill the guards to stop the vampire spread, and took the valuables as a reward for his services to Saradomin. But that doesn't explain why he killed all those innocent people. :-k Sacrifice maybe? And for the Wizard's Tower, what evidence is there that he is going to attack it? How do we know he just wants information that has been buried deep beneath the new one, in the old tower? I think we took that skeleton guard for granted. What other evil magic could lurk there? Demons, perhaps?

Correct me if anything there is totally off, as I am a bit of a newbie in RS, only being level 27.

I don't know if this has anything to do with what you guys are talking about but under the bed upstairs, is a penguin

Seriously? We had some speculation about that a few pages ago. Some people who investigated found that when WOM sent them to "kill the monster" under his bed, they claimed it looked somewhat like a Kalphite. I've never seen it myself, but if the thing is really a penguin then it wouldn't surprise me. Wow, this opens up a whole new area of penguin-related theories. "Here be penguins," the penguin-sheep, what's going on? Are penguins trying to infiltrate Runescape through sheep disguises? Perhaps WOM is just a puppet controlled by penguins...

Not the evil penguins!!! NOOOOOOOOO.... Wait, penguins can write books about algebra and evil chickens and a lot more?

Yeh, and if i recall correctly, the Runescape poll no long ago asked what are the secret masters of Runescape......And penguins were an option :ohnoes:

If penguins are the masters of RS then that makes me taking it over a whole lot easier... :D

Anyway, on topic- what if there is a Free to Play Quest which involves exploring the ruins of the old Wizard Tower? Maybe that will reveal the truth behind what the Wise Old Man wants? I have a feeling that something of Zamorak lurks beneath, and that the Wise Old Man must destroy it, even if it means the death of loads of people. That would explain the bank robbery- he needed special runes to get into this old Wizard Tower! But he must not have found these special runes, so he has to steal them off the Wizard's! And maybe he has those tinderboxes to blow this thing of Zamorak's to smithereens!

Okay, I think I got too excited.

Okay, I think I got too excited.

That was Rune Mysteries, and in the basement there was a skull in an isolated room, and when you picked it up a skeleton magically appeared. You had to use the skull for something, I can't remember.

And I was serious about the penguin thing. I mean, how could this nice, kindly old man turn into a deranged, bank robbing maniac, bent on destroying something in the Wizard's Tower? I think the thing on his desk, the "transport" as he believes it to be, is some kind of blimp that penguins can fly. They're the only things small enough to fit on it, right? Maybe penguins have been slowly staging an escape from the Penguin Island and they're hiding themselves among Runescape in preparation for a large-scale attack? Maybe in the course of these preparations, a penguin transport went down and WOM found it and put it on his desk. Maybe there was still a penguin in the transport.

Penguins have had tons of time on their little island to build an advanced society, possibly with superior brain capacities that allow them to control people's minds. When WOM found the transport, there was probably a single survivor of the crash, who used its mind control to force the WOM to hide it in his house. To gain materials for their attack, the penguin is controlling WOM to get players to get supplies for the penguin attack.

Think about this: The man sacked the Draynor Bank, and all he did was cover some things in gold? What do gold bars cost, about 700 gps? An entire bank probably had about 20-30 million gps in there, that couldn't have been all he used the money on. Perhaps most of the money went back to the penguins, who are using it to buy more materials for their conquest, or to pay the members who do errands for WOM (actually the penguins).

Also consider this: When you're a member and you do errands for WOM (actually the penguins), sometimes he'll give you a bunch of runes. Why would somebody who is running short of runes, as he claims, give out lots of free runes to people who run errands for him? Perhaps he doesn't realize that the penguins are using his runes to pay players, and he thinks he's just running low? It's possible that every so often there's a lapse in the mind control where WOM goes back to normal, and maybe that's when he asks members to "kill the monster under his bed," which is actually a penguin hiding, and WOM is asking the player to free him from mind control...

Maybe someone should get a screenshot of where it says that?

And about kalphite: kalphite's are dsanegrous bug liek beats who live in underground caves in teh desert, what would be one doing in Draynor village. And what it would be doing under the bed?

He is the Wise Old Man. I'm sure he has done his fair share of adventuring. Oh, and I didn't have a clue what a kalphite was until you told me (thanks by the way!), but now it seems more likely that it is a kalphite rather than a penguin. Was that huge bug the WOM was seen fighting in that cutscene in the 'Swan Song quest' quest a kalphite? If so, maybe it is a baby kalphite under his bed. He probably keeps it there because it may be of use. What use it is, I don't know.

ETA: Maybe this penguin thing is a red herring, and Jagex has been drawing us slowly away from the truth of the WOM all along?

I am having only logical explanation here. I will do some mapping and come back.

Good luck. :D

I'll get the screenies of the books on monday. He's written more in the book since I last read it, so it's kind of like a journal to him :P

Maybe the kalphites dug a tunnel to draynor which will be released for p2p users in a future quest? ::'

Oh thanks, I'm sure we all look forward to them. :D

Hmmm, are you implying a kalphite assault on Draynor? Now, that would make a good quest. If it is going to be a quest, I hope it's Free To Play.

I found the post above annoying... but maybe it is necessary... I am heading north into the tower of life...

I am in the tower... not much of interest above... the symbols above the alter look similar to a rising sun... the summoning is basically for herblore mostly... not too much of interest... though wait... there is a place where there are squares that light up under you... wonder what they are... satchels are nothing special... I'll just sell em (any buyers here? lol)

There are cages hanging done from the ceiling... there is a floor which has blue squares under your feet, but only two ideas? but nothing mentions WOM...

Here's the video I promised... (I had to make it larger so you could actually read what was being said.)

Never mind... it's to large for all the sites I tried uploading it on.

There has always been something bugging me about the bank robbery. The recent revival of this thread finally gets me to post my completely different theory: the WOM didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t rob the bank at all! Sure, we all saw it in a recording, but that could be a fake. Clues that point in that direction:

- Robbing the bank just doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t fit into what we know about the WOM. The letters you have to deliver as errands for him, show that he is an important and respected man, not the kind of guy who suddenly decides to rob a bank. Why does he help out in the Swan Song quest if nowadays he̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s only interested in money?

- The players in the recording don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t exist and are quite unbelievable (a lvl 27 wearing a legends cape?).

- Where is the surviving bank woman? When the guard told me about the bank robbery for the first time, he said she was transferred to another bank. I went to that bank to find her, but I could talk to none of the bankers there about the robbery (that was ages ago; now I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t remember what bank it was). .

- Olivia says that she didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t see who tele-othered her to Falador. So the robber could have been someone else, who has been replaced by the WOM on the recording. Or the WOM just teleported her out to prevent her from seeing what really was going to happen inside the bank after he broke the wall. (Why didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t he just kill her? He didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t mind killing players and bank staff.)

- Why didn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t they arrest the WOM? There is plenty of evidence: the recording, the party hat on the WOM̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s head, the gold in his house, and his own confessions: he admitted it in his book and in his postbag letter, and he tells it to all players who ask about the bank robbery.

- When the Swan Song quest was introduced, it said in the News: ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åallegations of his involvement in a spectacular bank robbery have never been substantiated̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Wow, this is really weird. I was just talking to the WOM yesterday about his partyhat..and today I find this topic. Weird huh?

Anyway, I have always been interested in the WOM and his strange knowledge and wealth. You will definatly see me at the next meeting.

I ddin't read all 40 pages of posts, so I don't know if this was mentioned, but there is a map behind his head. It looks to me like it's leading to Lumbridge...

What's so interesting about Lumbridge? Well, there's Zanaris. Hmm..what's so special about Zanaris? Oh, there's this chicken shrine...

Hey wait a minute...I read about it somewhere... didn't the Wise Old Man have a book about the Evil Chicken?

Hmm....

Interesting...

Someone probably said something extremely similar to that at one point, but like I said, I didn't real all 40 pages. I went up to about 8 and skipped to about 39 and read on to here. Sorry if I'm merely being redundant.

Hey, meme, would you mind taking your precious HTML out of your post, it's screwing up the rest of the page. (I'm tempted to report the post... but then and again that's why I'll never be a mod, I'm ban happy)

Also in my opinion there is more evidence for the robbery to be false than there is for it to be true. The only thing that verifies the bank robbery by the WOM is the recording. Other than that it could have been any one.

On the other hand there have been numerous hints that it wasn't the WOM who robbed the bank. Like on one of the updates (I believe it was Swan Song.) It said something to the effect of: "His allegiance to the bank robbery has never been substantiated" or something like that.

Edit: is it just me or is the page screwed up? mememessesitupfq0.th.jpg
