Quantum levitation

one of my friends showed me this video and thought it was too cool to not share

(explanation http://www.quantumlevitation.com/levitation/The_physics.html )

I skimmed through the science bit, and it doesn't seem too complicated

and since then I've basically been trying to think of all the potentials applications for this...... (if only we could find superconductors that work close to room temperature)

You should probably have posted this in the links/videos thread. It doesn't really warrant a full discussion.

Pardon the pun, but that's some cool stuff! :D

Now if only they could do away with the track, and just have it hover over literally anything... You know, like dirt, grass, sidewalk, marble, wood, etc. ... The possibilities are endless! Can you imagine something like that hoverboard from "Back To The Future"? I can!

(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)

Haha gotta love the Hebrew accent while speaking English. Good job to Tel-Aviv University on this quantum levitation project.

I think replacing the streets with the track would be enough ;)

Yes yes, cheap transportation and benefit to all mankind, NOW HOW DO WE USE IT TO BLOW PEOPLE UP!?!?

Cheap transportation in Antarctica... Keeping something that cold isn't cheap.

Do you have any idea how much time and money that would take?

we've had force shields for along time (it's a technicality though hahar.) in fact most of our technology is based on conductor / nature of particlewave physics.

and to sees; once we find a room temperature superconductor (no law of nature restricts this, as far as I'm aware), amazing things are possible.

Actually they're also working on making superconductors still superconduct at room temperature, not just find one that's a superconductor at room temperature, and I read somewhere that they are achieving better temperatures as time goes by.
