December 11, 201114 yr In the clan list on the RS main page, the source for the page defines the members status description as "Pro" or "ProStatus." That struck me as a little bit odd. Also note the icon link: http://www.runescape.com/img/global/myprofile/icon-pro.png is the icon displayed for members - and it is named pro also. Now I'm wondering if they intend to, at some point create a tiered account system (probably with different payments),with a separate status introduced with some benefits but not all (high scores, more bank space, etc). Or will you be able to pay more for a higher status, with some experience benefits and access to more auras? Probably just some crazy thoughts of mine, but what do you think? December 11, 201114 yr I'm definitely sleep-deprived while replying, but I'll put it like this. I don't see anything behind such a title at all, not even the hint of a tiered system. It may be my current state, but I don't see how that could possibly work, considering normal Members has done exactly what they've needed... December 11, 201114 yr The word "pro" is pretty commonly used in software to denote the difference between paying and non-paying customers. Download free programs for anti-virus, office applications, video/audio tools, etc, and generally they'll ask you to pay a fee/subscription to upgrade to "[product name] Pro."
December 11, 201114 yr Omali's hit the nail on the head with this one. "Pro" in software terms simply means "paid for", which perfectly describes what members is. I really can't see how you can look deeper than that. ~ W ~
December 11, 201114 yr Wouldn't it be more likely that it's a web designer having a laugh with poorly named classes?
December 11, 201114 yr Another conspiracy solved. "Imagine yourself surrounded by the most horrible cripples and maniacs it is possible to conceive, and you may understand a little of my feelings with these grotesque caricatures of humanity about me." - H.G. Wells, The Island of Doctor Moreau

December 11, 201114 yr Tiered systems have worked for other MMOs before, such as AdventureQuest. [2:21:46 PM] Baldvin | Leik: these comp reqs are so bad [2:22:36 PM] Arceus Dark: Time to get...req'd?

December 11, 201114 yr Personally, I wouldn't be surprised, but I agree with Omali on this one. It will also be difficult to implement considering the current system. It would require quite a bit of extra coding that would take a while to implement.

If Jagex releases a new tier of membership, than I have to demand that they go ahead with their previous plans to release an authenticator.
December 11, 201114 yr They wouldn't be able to squeeze much more money. If they came up with higher tiers, at that point might as well just go play a better P2P game for just a little more money. 2480+ total
December 11, 201114 yr I wouldn't be surprised if there is already a picture knocking around with the name 'member' and this was done to avoid confusion. This sort of thing is pretty much at the whim of the web content team. They'll call stuff whatever makes their lives easier, so this probably doesn't reflect anything beyond the thought process of whoever selected that name for the pic. It's still interesting, since I'm sure some people will see this as elitist or whatever. A tired membership system would be interesting, but I think that at least for now, Jagex is trying to keep their members on roughly the same level (obviously the loyalty program is messing this up a bit). I do suspect that adding a new player tier to the game would require a substantial amount of programming work, unless they set the game up to add a new tier easily the last time they overhauled the game engine. I also doubt that they have the resources right now to take on that kind of job; most of the resources that would go into something like that seem to be allocated to anti-bot updates still (since they are still working on the screen reader problem).
December 12, 201114 yr There's already a tiered membership sysstem - it's called loyalty points. Adding even more tiers to this already flawed system will just turn more players away. December 12, 201114 yr There is already tiered members, kinda. Those that buy gamecards. And those that don't. It certainly would not surprise me at all if they rolled out some sort of membership, membership+, membership pro/whatever system, but I think its probably just the name of that picture. As others said, many paid programs that have a free version also are (name) pro.
December 12, 201114 yr Nobody is pro on Runescape. LmfaoObviously didn't read the OP. It would certainly suck if they made us pay more than what they are now, although I can see certain halfway marks that would slot nicely in between just like the OP said (more bank space etc) Goals for 2012:Quest CapeMAX
December 12, 201114 yr ITT: people making this more of a big deal than it is. ONE web designer named the icon. That's it.

Promotions don't count as a new tiers of membership. This is the kind of difference you can expect in a tiered membership:
