Everything.

The rule to power/speed slaying is to cannon every single task it is humanly possible to take a cannon too.

To elaborate:

Cannon is good when:

  • The monster has low defence (this is mostly a cost issue, damage per cannonball etc.)
  • There are multiple targets to hit (high spawns, multicombat helps but is not required)
  • When there are no other boosts to take advantage of (e.g. ferocious ring or steel titan)

For example for black demons you have the choice between cannon (Taverly) and titan (Chaos Tunnels). For steel dragons you can cannon (Ghorrock) or Kuradal's with fero.

Cannon:

Hellhounds*

Kalphites*

Black demons*

Black dragons*

Dark beasts (unless you don't need ranged xp)*

Bloodveld*

Suqah*

Abberant spectres*

Wyverns

Living rock creatures

Dagannoth*

Greater demons (Forinthry Dungeon)*

Ice strykewyrms*

Jungle strykewyrms

Desert strykewyrms

Fire giants*

Ganodermic beasts*

Warped tortoises

Grifalopines

No cannon:

Steel dragons*

Iron dragons*

Blue dragons*

Waterfiends*

Can't cannon:

Abyssal demons*

Mithril dragons*

Mutated jadinkos

Spiritual mages

Vyrewatch

TzHaar (Jad)*

Terror dogs

Gargoyles

Marked with a * are worth doing, approximately. It depends a bit on effigy rates, melee/ranged xp needed, current summoning level, charms needed etc.

Why are steel dragons listed as no cannon. I was under the impression the extra damage from a cannon would far outweigh an extra 40 per hit. Also from the can't cannon list, I'd always do Jad tasks if you are capable of meleeing (cheap) or storm of armadyling (expensive) the task, as it has excellent slayer xp/hr. Terror Dogs are good if you're short on points too, as are small mithril dragon tasks, although personally I like mithril dragon tasks and soa makes it pretty fast anyway.

Steels with cannon are not noticably/efficiently faster than Kuradal's steels for a few reasons:

  • The spawns at Ghorrock are further from eachother than those in Kuradal's by far.
  • Cannon has low accuracy (deals little damage per hit) on steels.
  • Steel dragons have long-ranged breath so they can't be lured on top of the cannon (at least not quickly or without losing much dps) like many other monsters.

Also don't underestimate the ferocious ring, with a max hit of 700, it's still a dps increase of some 11%.

Theoretically, cannon may beat fero if there were a good number of spawns in a smaller cave, and of course in a multicombat area.

You can lure the steel dragons at Ghorrock by running them. You move underneath them between attacks and they move away from you, which you use to shepherd them onto the cannon. Although as you say, this is only viable for two of the spawns, the others are dead by the time you get there. There are plenty of spawns at Ghorrock so that's not really an issue, and although I don't have any relevant hit/miss data I'd say from experience that the cannon hits often enough with the benefit of overloaded range to be worth it.

Also when you say "Cannon has low accuracy (deals little damage per hit) on steels.", is the accuracy of the cannon not the chance it has to hit? Once it has been determined whether or not the cannonball hits, I thought the defence of the creature didn't affect the damage the cannonball would do.

Ah little damage per attack* then, or per shot.

From what I remember, Vex tested Ghorrock steels and found them less efficient than Kuradal steels. That was pre-SoA.

Dark beasts are in the Temple of Light, you must have a crystal able to teleport there as well or the run just isn't worth the hassle.

for the bloodvelds hes referring to the mutated bloodvelds located in same dungeon as blood altar.

Fire giants should be done in the resource dungeon in waterfall cave

hellhounds in resource dungeon in tavelry

bluedragon in resource dungeon i think, or can simply kill in kuradel which i personally think is very good

black dragons, i think ppl kill them in evil chicken lair, although i personally bring cannon to tavelry and just cannon them there, since iwant fast banknig since i bank the hides and bones

The rest cannoning i think are common sense.

If your on a budget and cant afford to cannon every task, id say the essential to cannon are...

Dagganoths

Kalphites

suqah

aberant spectres

black demons

mutated bloodvelds

skeletal wyverns(for much faster kill)

hellhounds(if unlocked resource dungeon)

These are just my personal opinion tho, ppl can agree or disagree

Excellent video guide, you covered just about everything there is to cover! I learned a bit such as what are best charm drops.

A few comments i would like to make are..

Spiritual mages i think are bad xp( but u covered that)

Terror dogs i think are horrible, since u fight in a multicombat area, and your pray is drained automatically(perhaps i fight in bad spot? if there is a better place to fight them let me know)

I fully agree with your block list :), i might switch desert strykewyverns for living rock creatures, just cus of how much i hate them, but hey, apparently there good xp sincegot lot hp, 1 defence, but are just extremely boring, so i suppose i would put up with them.

For the task that you frequently skip...

I would never skip fire giants since they are great to kill in the waterfall resource dungeon, alot of fire giants and you can cannon them in single combat, making them one of the most enjoyable task i get

Nechs, greaters, and abysal demons i would prolly never skip just because i can bring urns and gain easy pray xp, but if yur 99 pray then i suppose you can go for it and block them.

i wouls also never skip skeletal wyverns just cus there given in small numbers, you can kill them pretty fast with a cannon, and the bones sell for a lot, but if you only want xp, then maybe they good for being blocked( but if you only going for xp, mith drags should be blocked too no?)

Im okay with blocking task, but i think skipping task is something that ppl shouldnt do on a common basis.

Idk if my comments sound harsh or not, but i really do think it was an excellent guide and im not trying to offend you with my criticism.

Terror dogs are nice because they are such a fast task. And yeah, that is where everyone kills terror dogs. I'm not sure if there are any other rooms in Tarn's lair that has them.

Fire giants drop too many golds. Nechs are ok to kill in the Chaos Tunnels if you want to chin them. Greater demons are some of the fastest slayer experience. Ther are amazing to cannon in the wildy if you don't mind risking. Abyssals are nice for some low key slayer. Wyverns really suck unless you have good gear. I really just hate these because of the stupid click area and dumb freezing attacks.

Working on max and completionist capes.

Mithril Dragons have a decent effigy drop rate, drop chewed bones which are always fun to burn for that possible DFH, also drop pages for a trimmed comp cape, and actually require some concentration if you want to go in there without food.

You most likely hate them because of your prayer, dungeoneering, herblore, and summoning levels. You don't have access to antifires, so you need to bring shield, which immediately makes them suck. Not to mention no turmoil, extremes, overloads, rapier, or BoB/unicorn.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad you found my guide helpful. There are more guides on my YouTube channel if you want to check them out. With your permission, I'd like to include part of your comments in the video description as part of a "FAQ".

I'll respond to some of your opinions with some more of my opinions:

Regarding Fire Giants, if you don't mind the long trek to the resource dungeon which isn't multicombat, then go for it. IMO it's faster to bring a Steel Titan into Chaos Tunnels and take them down that way, which still isn't particularly fast. I occasionally have slayed them that way, but ultimately it isn't rewarding or great XP and can get boring fast. My preference is to skip them.

Regarding Terror Dogs, they aren't great until you consider the Smoking Kills points they provide. Since they are very easily accessible with Slayer Ring teleport and are assigned in small quantities, the task can be completed very quickly. The primary reward from this task is quick & easy slayer points, so you can reliably skip worse tasks. If skips were unlimited, I'd skip these; but since points need to be earned, these are a quick win.

Regarding Infernal Urns & Ashes, they aren't as worthwhile as you might believe and I'll demonstrate. Let's assume you are assigned 200 infernal ash dropping monsters (black demons, abby demons, nechs) and use 8 urns to gain 200*62.5=12500XP or 12.5K xp. At the moment dragon bones cost 3269gp which yield 252xp at gilded altars, or 12.9722 gp/xp. Effectively you save 163K gp in Prayer XP by completing these tasks with urns. Is 163K worth completing these otherwise unrewarding, slow tasks? If collecting the charms also, perhaps. Whether these tasks are worthwhile will vary by player, but I suspect many players will lean away from these tasks.

Regarding Wyverns, they are decent to slay with a DFS partially because of the high price of wyvern bones, generous charm drops, and low assignment quantity. However, Frost Dragons yield better bones and charms right next door (although not Slayer monsters). I cannot help but feel that Frost Dragons are a better time investment since the only benefit of Wyverns (Slayer XP) isn't a great XP rate. That said, I'd still slay Wyverns for fun occasionally.

As a rule of thumb, the more expendable slayer points you've got banked, the more often skipping these tasks is advisable. If you are low on points or enjoy a specific task, do it! I could argue against slaying Blue Dragons all day, but at the end of the day I'd usually slay them just because I enjoy them and they're quick.

you have permission to use my comments

i Suppose i try to avoid skipping all task just because i plan to use all the slay points i have later,(when finally 99 slay) and keep switching it to dag kings for whenever i want to dag king hunting, so maintaining as much points is important for me, otherwise i would prolly consider the skipping of task more frequently since the the gain of xp prolly outweighs the loss of slay points.

I think ill un ban terror dogs now btw just cus of yur comments

I guess mith drags would be better if i had all those stuff u listed, Paul, but im working on it:p
