I have a feeling you're trying to discreetly imply that I manipped the [cabbage] out of the tennis ball photo which isn't true. I only did some changes in the levels of the photograph. If you reply again asking for the original or someone else wants it I'll post, but if you're just trying to make a point then it's not worth my time.

Thanks for all the great feedback :).

wtf? You're kidding me right?

Pfft. Sorry, don't wanna put you out any.

Reading over the replys, I guess I was out of line.

I should have posted some "great feedback" as you call it. So here goes.

WOW That's awesome looks mad tight the ball is all glowy!!1

Now we can be friends again.

For some reasons i realy like the Ball one.

For some other reasons i don't like the Sunset one.

Probably cause the first one (in my order), while technicaly well taken, ends up giving more emotions than the second, that's pretty blurry and rough somehow. I think you might try changing the "reds" levels/saturations there cause the sunset colors are not all that strong and the pic is somehow depressing. But i myself experimented that most of what we consider beautiful, emotionaly pleasing sights at dusk and dawn can't be taken in a pic and even with a lot of photoediting job won't get close to the original at all... *sniffle*

A friend of mine actualy tends to take a couple shots on a tripod in fast sequency, one with low ASA and the other with high ASA, covering the black, noisy parts of the second with the clean blacks of the first, still saving the warm results on the sky from the high ASA. That saves the blurry effect you get on Long time shots, where the wind moving brenches and leaves, and clouds themselves, messes up stuff.

I also don't like some of the above answers and habit...

The sunset one is great, I like the whole red to blue transition with pure black silhouettes which look cut out. The tennis ball's pretty interested, I but I guess I like the other pic more.

No, I'm not kidding you. Here are the steps I took:

1. Image > Image Size > 640x480

2. Image > Adjustments > Auto Contrast

3. Image > Adjustments > Levels

Here's the original : http://img424.imageshack.us/img424/4467/tennisballoriginal9iq.png

Yes, they look different, but I don't feel I did enough Post-editing for it to be a photo manip. I'm sorry if you disagree.

TJ - thanks for the great critique :). Same for you mrx.

No problem.

I hope you don't mind if i changed the composite levels of the pic the way it pleases my creepy mind :)

Can you please show me where I said anything negative regarding any of the pictures you posted? Or where I said that if you manipulate a picture that you take it doesn't count as a picture? Altogether I feel it's a pretty crappy composition (tennis ball) but the picture looks pretty interesting. If you had in fact photographed that with no post work, I was going to ask you how you had your camera setup. I've been doing alot of photography lately and was interested as to how I could possibly get a look like that on some of the pictures I'm taking. I thought maybe you used a filter on your camera. Relax, nobody is out to get you. We all know what happens when you assume, and this is a perfect example.

I'll admit I did assume and that was my fault. I guess your sarcastic comments towards others in the past made me get aggressive which I shouldn't have done. I apologize and won't do it again.

Unfortunately, I'm completely at the beginning of learning photography so I woudl have no clue how to achieve that without post work. If you happen to find out shoot me a note.

As people have already said the first shot is somewhat grainy and bland. However, the second shot is really good. Its perfectly shot and i love the detail. Great job overall. :)

I've been shooting alot of film lately... I own an older Canon AE-1 (SLR) with several very good lenses and lots of filters for it. There are some things you can do to manipulate pictures in the dark room, but obviously nothing like you can do with digital. The challenge here is being able to get something like that without editing it so heavily. If you had done that ball without editing I would have been amazed. I'll have to post some of the film stuff I'm doing... I haven't yet decided if I like it, since I'm so in love with digital.

Glad you're impressed, LP.

You could achieve a similar look by using painting with light.
